Pino and has been assigned to Triple-A Omaha.

DFA'd earlier in the week, Pino will land at Triple-A, and it's unlikely he'll rejoin the Royals in 2015.

Pino's latest stint in the majors only lasted one day, and he didn't get to pitch in a game. He gave up six runs in his only start this season, but he owns a 0.64 ERA and 13:2 K:BB ratio in 14 innings of relief work. The Royals' excellent pitching depth has served to limit Pino's opportunities.

Pino will be brought in to aid a taxed bullpen that has been forced to take on a large workload right out of the All-Star break thanks to Friday's doubleheader. The Royals are expected to activate Kris Medlen (elbow) within the next few days to fortify the pitching staff, so Pino will likely head back to minors in a corresponding move once that happens.

The 31-year-old was called up from Triple-A Omaha earlier in the day to make his first major league start in over a month and was tagged for five runs in the second inning, although he managed to settle down afterward. Pino could remain in the rotation for as long as Yordano Ventura is sidelined, but Friday's performance could have the team looking at other options.

The 30-year-old has not announced whether he'll accept the assignment or opt for free agency. Pino made 11 starts for the Twins this season, posting a 5.07 ERA in 60.1 total innings. In 16 Triple-A appearances (nine starts), he was much more effective, sporting a 10-2 record and 2.47 ERA over 73.0 innings.

Given the length of the timetable, Pino's 2014 campaign is likely over. After several seasons of middling production at the Triple-A level, Pino enjoyed an impressive ascent to the majors, but he scuffled in his 11 starts with the Twins, going 2-5 with a 5.07 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. He's unlikely to warrant serious consideration for a rotation spot heading into 2015.

Pino, who was optioned to Triple-A Rochester after Saturday's start, will remain with the Twins for the next few days to receive treatment on his tender elbow, MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger reports.

The Twins simply want to ensure that the elbow issue isn't anything that will force the team to shut him down for the season. He'll likely need to throw a side session without any setbacks before he officially rejoins the rotation at Rochester.

Pino struck out six and walked two while giving up four runs -- one earned -- on six hits over five innings to earn his second win of the season.

Opposing fellow 26th man Buck Farmer, Pino fared much better than his counterpart Saturday, limiting the strain on the Minnesota bullpen in the process. Pino is expected to return to Triple-A Rochester, but he'll likely be back with the Twins when rosters expand in September.

Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed Pino will start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader versus Detroit, Tyler Mason of Fox Sports North reports.

As expected, Pino will come up from Triple-A Rochester to make his first start with the Twins since August 12. He was roughed up in that outing, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits - including three home runs - over 4.1 innings. In his last 16.1 MLB innings, Pino has conceded 14 earned runs.

Pino is listed as the probable starter for Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers, Brandon Warne of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

This offers further substantiation that Pino will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to make a start over the weekend. He struggled in his last outing with the Twins, allowing seven runs over 4.1 innings, but it appears the club will give him another shot Saturday.
