LHP Tim Berry was sent outright to Triple-A Jupiter. Berry was placed on the disabled list with a sprained knee Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

Berry, a 24-year-old lefty, has struggled all season at Double-A Bowie with a 7.32 ERA despite posting a 3.51 ERA at the same level last year. The Orioles have not announced the severity of Berry's injury, but a timetable should be made available over the weekend.

Berry was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports.

Although he was never expected to break camp with the major league team, Berry's numbers in three spring appearances with the big club (6.75 ERA, 2.00 WHIP) only reaffirmed that he needs more work in the minors. Berry posted a 3.51 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 108:45 K:BB in 23 starts (133.1 innings) for Double-A Bowie last season and will look to take the next step at Triple-A this year.

Berry, 23, has a 3.71 ERA and 98:41 K:BB ratio through 121.1 innings for Double-A Bowie.

Berry, a southpaw, has dominated lefties but struggled against righties. All 12 of the home runs he's allowed have come against right-handers.

His stay with the Orioles lasted just one day, and he didn't appear in a game. He'll continue to work as a starting pitcher in the minor leagues where he'll provide depth in the event of an injury.
