He currently holds a 14.09 ERA and a 2.35 WHIP in 7.2 innings with the Mariners this season. He's replaced by Edgar Olmos in the Mariners' bullpen.

Rasmussen has spent the bulk of the year at the Triple-A level, but he'll be given a chance to contribute in the big leagues right away for the Mariners. In 42 Triple-A innings, Rasmussen held a 2.36 ERA with 40 strikeouts. He's made only one MLB appearance in 2015.

Wells was traded to the Mariners on Friday as part of a trade for Mark Lowe.

Rasmussen threw the ball with Triple-A Buffalo this year, giving up just 11 earned runs (2.36 ERA) and striking out 40 batters over 42 innings. He has made 11 big league appearances, but just one this year, so it remains to be seen if he will report to Seattle or the Mariners' Triple-A affiliate in Tacoma.

Rasmussen was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo after Friday's game, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The 26-year-old made his 2015 debut in a blowout win over the Rangers on Friday, allowing one hit and striking out one in a scoreless frame. He was swapped out after the game for Matt Boyd, who is expected to start Saturday for Toronto. Rasmussen will have to bide his time and await another opportunity with the big club.
