Perez (oblique) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on Wednesday.

The Giants had already ruled Perez out for the season on Tuesday, but Wednesday's move cleared roster space for the club to select Kevin Frandsen's contract.

Perez has a strained oblique and will miss the rest of the season, MLB.com's Chris Haft reports.

In addition to missing the rest of the regular season, Perez will also be forced to skip winter ball for the first time in six years. He should be ready to go for the start of 2016.

Perez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Thursday's 9-1 win over the Cubs.

Perez was actually getting ready to play second base for the second consecutive game due to the uncertainty of Matt Duffy's health. But that never came to be and he was moved back to center. With Angel Pagan's (knee) return looming, Perez will either be relegated to a bench role or briefly sent down to the minors until rosters expand on September 1.

Perez has been added to Wednesday's lineup and will bat seventh as the Giants' center fielder.

Gregor Blanco was a late scratch from the lineup Wednesday due to a left hip strain. Perez will slot into center field and bat seventh against Chicago's Kyle Hendricks. If manager Bruce Bochy holds Blanco out of the lineup Thursday, Perez is a leading candidate to start in his place.

Perez was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Right patella tendinitis has pushed Angel Pagan to the DL and created an opportunity for Perez to come up for the first time this season. Perez has posted an underwhelming .265/.306/.424 batting line with Sacramento this season and will likely serve merely as over the remainder of the year.

Even with Hunter Pence (forearm) expected to miss the first month of the season, Perez was unable to lock down consistent reps in the San Francisco outfield. He'll provide organizational depth at the minor league level, but may be just an injury or two away from getting a call back to the big leagues.

Perez's lower-back tightness that caused him to be scratched from Monday's lineup must have been minor, as he required just two days before returning. He could shoulder a heavier workload for the first part of the season with Hunter Pence (forearm) out for a portion of the beginning of the season, but it appears Norichika Aoki will get the first crack at the starting spot.

Perez has a chance to earn the starting role in right field after Hunter Pence's diagnosis that could sidelined him for up to two months, but manager Bruce Bochy has already declared that Norichika Aoki will be first in line. The injury doesn't appear to be too serious for now, so consider Perez day-to-day.
