Tue Sep 8 201517:16Medina called up by Cubs on Tuesday
Medina was called up by the Cubs on Tuesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The right-hander was able to turn in sub-3.00 ERAs in 2013 and 2014 despite poor walk rates, but his issues with control have come back to bite him this year, as he's posted a 4.71 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 17 appearances between Seattle and Chicago. Medina figures to merely provide bullpen depth, working in low-leverage spots, over the remainder of the regular season.

A day after demoting Medina to Triple-A Iowa, the Cubs elected to remove the reliever from the 40-man roster entirely to make room for Clayton Richard, who is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Brewers. Medina was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Bruce Miles of the Daily Herald reports.
Dallas Beeler is coming up to start Tuesday's game, so the Cubs needed to make a move to free up a spot on the 25-man roster. Medina will head back to Triple-A after appearing in two major league games during this most recent call-up. He struggled in both outings, allowing a combined seven earned runs on 10 hits over just four innings.

The Cubs recalled Medina from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Sat Jun 27 201516:17Medina optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday
Medina was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Medina has pitched well since being recalled from Triple-A Iowa on June 17, tossing five shutout innings over three appearances with the club. However, the Cubs needed a spot on the 25-man roster for Saturday's starter, Donn Roach, and he was the odd man out. As a result, he'll return to the minors for the time being, but likely remains one of the top options to be recalled should the situation call for it.

Thu May 21 201515:53Medina will join Triple-A Iowa
Medina will join Triple-A Iowa, Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register reports.
Medina was acquired by the Cubs on Tuesday in exchange for Welington Castillo, but he'll begin his stint with his new organization in the minors. The 26-year-old has been effective in the majors thus far in his career, so he'll likely be first in line for a promotion if the Cubs need an extra arm in the bullpen.

Medina was traded to the Cubs in exchange for catcher Welington Castillo.
Medina was an effective reliever for the Mariners in 2013 and 2014, but he was sent to Triple-A Tacoma a couple weeks ago, after walking seven batters through his first 12 innings of the season. He'll likely be back in the majors with the Cubs, and he could even see a good portion of his work in the seventh or eighth innings.

Medina was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma after Sunday's game against the Astros, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma New Tribune reports.
Medina's control has been a bit spotty this season (9:7 K:BB), so it's possible the Mariners just want to send him to the minors to work through the issue. He was one of the Mariners' most effective relievers in 2014, so it doesn't seem likely that he's in for a particularly lengthy stay at Triple-A before rejoining the big club.

Medina pitched 1.2 scoreless innings Friday, allowing no hits and one walk with one strikeout, as he continues an impressive spring training.
In six spring outings, Medina has allowed one run, three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in 7.1 innings. He often pitched in late innings last season, but he's probably better suited for middle relief.

Medina came into the game in a low leverage situation, with the Mariners up 8-1. He's having a good year (2.13 ERA, 1.134 WHIP), though the Mariners don't turn to him first or even second in close-and-late situations.
Wed Dec 4 201318:01Mariners deny winter ball for Yoervis Medina
The Mariners have denied Yoervis Medina permission to pitch in the Venezuelan Winter League.
It's a workload concern. Medina made 63 relief appearances this past season as a rookie at the major league level, posting a superb 2.91 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 68 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander is expected to serve as a setup man in 2014.

Sat Jun 29 201302:09Yoervis Medina records win in relief
Yoervis Medina picked up the win in relief after pitching a scoreless 10th inning for the Mariners on Friday.
Oliver Perez struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth, Medina wasn't quite so dominant in the 10th, as he allowed a hit and struck out no one, but he recorded his third win. Perez and Medina are clearly Eric Wedge's preferred options out of the pen right now. They'll probably share save chances for the next couple of weeks.
