Mon Jul 13 201515:28Lindstrom released by White Sox on Friday
Lindstrom was released by the White Sox on Friday.
Coming off an ugly 2014 with the White Sox, the 35-year-old Lindstrom posted a 5.56 ERA over 22.2 innings for Triple-A Charlotte this season. He'll likely either retire or sign a minor-league contract with another organization, though there's no guarantee he'll generate interest.

Lindstrom signed a minor-league deal with the White Sox on Friday, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports.
After being released from the Angels' spring camp a week ago, Lindstrom will return to the organization he called home last season. Though he served as the White Sox's closer for a stretch of 2014, Lindstrom's poor numbers (5.03 ERA, 18:12 K:BB ratio over 34 innings) and the offseason addition of David Robertson likely won't allow him to touch the ninth inning this season. Instead, Lindstrom will likely head to Triple-A Charlotte to open the year as he attempts to earn his way back to the big leagues.

Lindstrom signed a minor league deal with the Angels on Tuesday and received a spring training invite, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.
Lindstrom had a 5.03 ERA with six saves and 18 strikeouts in 34 innings last season with White Sox. He declined statistically in 2014 after posting a 3.12 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 60.2 innings in the 2013 season. Though he has been a closer in the past, it is unlikely he will be put in a position to earn regular saves this season.

Lindstrom struck out two in a perfect inning in a blowout loss to the Giants on Wednesday.
Lindstrom's first appearance back from the disabled list was not too challenging, as he came to the mound against the Giants' 6-7-8 batters with the White Sox already down by six runs. He should get most of his action in non-save situations for now, as manager Robin Ventura is comfortable with Jake Perticka in that role.

Manager Robin Ventura said Jake Petricka will remain the White Sox's closer even with Lindstrom (ankle) returning from the disabled list Tuesday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Of course, Ventura made his comments before Petricka blew his third save of the season against the Giants on Tuesday. However, we doubt he would flip his opinion within a matter of hours. Lindstrom did not pitch on back-to-back days in his rehab at Triple-A Charlotte, so he may yet need some time to take over even a late-inning role.
Sun Aug 10 201419:41Matt Lindstrom: (Ankle) Will Return Tuesday
Lindstrom (ankle) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Lindstrom was roughed up for seven earned runs in 4.2 innings over five rehab games, but the White Sox believe he is healthy enough to return to the big club. Lindstrom was the White Sox's closer when he was injured in May, but given his minor league struggles and Jake Petricka's success as the closer of late, it remains to be seen if he will jump right back into the ninth-inning role.

Lindstrom (ankle) struck out one during a scoreless inning at Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.
The White Sox are expected to bring Lindstrom back to the big league roster within the next week or so, but it's unclear if he will immediately enter the ninth-inning mix, or if he will be utilized in middle relief, but the latter role seems more likely until he shows that he's completely healthy again.

Lindstrom (ankle) should be activated from the disabled list "within a week," Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Lindstom has appeared in three minor league games since July 31, allowing three earned runs on five hits over three innings. His most recent performance looked more promising, as he didn't allow a baserunner and struck out one in a scoreless frame. If he can do this for another appearance or two in the minors, he should be back with the White Sox by early next week. He'll be eased into action, likely serving in middle relief to start.

Lindstrom (ankle) made his rehab debut at Triple-A Charlotte on Friday, allowing a run on a hit and a walk in an an inning of work, the Daily Herald reports.
Lindstrom should only need a few sessions at Charlotte before he is ready to return to the White Sox's bullpen - perhaps as soon as this weekend. Jake Petricka has been on a roll lately in the ninth inning, so it is not immediately evident if Lindstrom will take back his early-season closer role.
Wed Jul 30 201417:02Matt Lindstrom: (Ankle) Will Begin Rehab Assignment Friday
Lindstrom (ankle) will join Triple-A Charlotte on Friday to begin a rehab assignment, Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com reports.
Lindstrom was forced to undergo surgery to repair a tear in the sheath of his left ankle back in May, but the right-hander has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment following a pair of live sessions. The ninth-inning role for the White Sox is wide open, with Jacob Petricka currently the preferred option after Zach Putnam (shoulder) hit the DL, and it's certainly possible Lindstrom could be given some consideration when healthy. He picked up six saves in 19 appearances to begin the year.
Tue Jul 29 201420:59Lindstrom's rehab assignment could be short
Matt Lindstrom (ankle) might need only 2-3 rehab appearances before being activated.
He's expected to begin a rehab assignment any time now after a successful simulated game Tuesday. That would put Lindstrom on pace to return in early August if all goes well. The reliever said Tuesday that he'd "like to keep closing" once he's activated. The White Sox haven't made any proclamations one way or the other, but Lindstrom is definitely worth stashing for those speculating.

Matt Lindstrom (ankle) will throw a simulated game on Tuesday.
If it goes well, Lindstrom could be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. The reliever is expected back sometime in August and could eventually regain his closer job, so those speculating for saves should scoop him up now.

Wed Jul 23 201409:27Matt Lindstrom nearing rehab assignment
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Tuesday that Matt Lindstrom (foot) might begin a rehab assignment the first week of August.
The Pale Hose had been hoping to get Lindstrom back in their bullpen in early August, but it sounds like it will be a little later than that. Lindstrom has made a quicker-than-expected return from May ankle surgery and could eventually recapture the White Sox' closer job.

Lindstrom threw another 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday and is scheduled for another side session Tuesday before then being cleared to face hitters. The reliever has made a quicker-than-expected return from May ankle surgery and is aiming to rejoin the White Sox' bullpen in early August. Lindstrom seems likely to eventually rejoin the closer gig, so stash him now if someone dropped him.

Sun Jul 13 201409:48Lindstrom hopes to return in early August
Matt Lindstrom (ankle) is hoping to return in early August.
The original timetable had Lindstrom pegged for a late August return, but he's ahead of schedule and threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday. The White Sox' closer gig has been a committee since Lindstrom went down, so now is the time to stash the 34-year-old if someone dropped him. "Throwing, he looked great,'' manager Robin Ventura said of Lindstrom's bullpen session. "He's still hobbling around somewhat. He still doesn't look totally stable on his ankle as far as running around and fielding and comebackers like that. But throwing, he looks fine [and the ball] looks good coming out of his hand.''

Sat Jul 12 201412:23Matt Lindstrom throws successful 'pen session
Matt Lindstrom (ankle) threw 30 pitches in a successful bullpen session on Saturday.
The veteran right-hander is finally making progress in his recovery since undergoing ankle surgery in May. He will throw another bullpen session over the All-Star break, and if all continues to go well, he could be cleared for a minor league rehab assignment at some point next two weeks.

Mon Jun 30 201422:56Matt Lindstrom one week ahead of schedule
Matt Lindstrom is considered one week ahead of schedule in his recovery from left ankle surgery.
Lindstrom has been undergoing acupuncture and laser treatments, which has sped up the healing process. The White Sox had been hoping he could return on September 1, but perhaps now he'll be back in August. "I'm pretty optimistic about it," Lindstrom said. "I've already played catch without the boot on three or four times. It feels pretty good. I'm excited to get going and I tried to do whatever I could the last month once I got that cast off to speed up the healing process a little bit with those different types of treatments."

Matt Lindstrom has had the stitches removed from his surgically-repaired left ankle.
Lindstrom had surgery last month to repair a tendon sheath in his ankle. The team is hoping he'll be able to return by September 1, but he's hoping to make it back sooner. Either way, he's not close to pitching.
