Fri Feb 22 201320:59Brett Jackson impresses early in spring camp
Brett Jackson is making a strong impression early in spring training, and he feels that his new swing is a major reason for his success.
After struggling to make consistent contact last season, Jackson worked hard over the offseason to completely overhaul his swing. He tallied three hits in an intersquad game on Friday, and is confident he'll keep rolling when the actual games begin. He's still slated to open the season at Triple-A Iowa, but he could force his way onto the Opening Day roster with an impressive spring.

Jackson recently spent time with Sveum and and the Cubs hitting coaches in Mesa and has apparently made "huge strides." ƒ?oI think heƒ?Ts got a good base to work with going into the rest of the winter and going into Spring Training to understand the art of hitting, so to speak,ƒ?? said Sveum. ƒ?oSometimes it gets lost and taught the wrong way.ƒ?? Jackson, 24, batted just .175/.303/.342 with 59 strikeouts over 142 plate appearances during his first taste of the big leagues this past season and is expected to begin 2013 in the minors.

Wed Oct 31 201220:21Brett Jackson to begin 2013 at Triple-A
Brett Jackson is expected to begin next season at Triple-A Iowa.
Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein conceded that Jackson wasn't ready for the majors when he was promoted in August, and the outfielder went on to bat just .175/.303/.342 while striking out 59 times over 142 plate appearances. However, the team thought he would benefit from having to make adjustments at the big league-level, as well as taking tutelage from the coaching staff. The 24-year-old is still the center fielder of the future, but they're not ready to hand him the everyday job just yet. It's possible he could change their thinking if he mashes in spring training.
