Tue Jun 17 201401:57Murphy's Law: Donnie has two HRs in victory
Donnie Murphy came out of nowhere to slam two homers in the Rangers' 14-8 shootout victory over the A's on Monday.
Donnie "Babe Ruth" Murphy, the Oakland television broadcast team joked. Murphy's fourth inning two-run homer put the Rangers ahead 4-2. The second one, sliced down the right field line off Fernando Abad in the ninth, scarcely snuck by the foul poll on descent and helped to put an exclamation point on a wild offensive affair. This was fun and all, but Murphy hadn't collected a hit since June 1 coming into tonight. The utility man does have a bit of pop (.392 career slugging percentage; 11 homers last year in limited at-bats), but he's batting just .216 in 102 at-bats.

Donnie Murphy hit his first home run of the season in the Rangers' win over the A's on Wednesday.
It was his only hit on the afternoon. Murphy's sixth inning homer off A's starter Sonny Gray served as mere insurance for Martin Perez' complete game shutout. The second baseman was pressed into action with the Rangers' rash of injuries to infielders and isn't a fantasy contributor.

Donnie Murphy hit a game-tying, two-run homer off of Stephen Strasburg with two outs in the ninth inning of Thursday's loss to the Nationals.
Murphy had struck out in each of his first three plate appearances, but he stunned Strasburg by lofting a ball into the left-field bleachers to knot things up at four. The 30-year-old journeyman has now gone deep eight times in 16 games since being called up by the Cubs. He'll return to earth soon enough, but ride the wave while you can.
