Marte was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
Marte was 3-for-16 at the dish during a brief six-game stint with the club. He was deemed expendable when a roster spot needed to be cleared for top-ten prospect Jake Lamb. If he passes through waivers unclaimed, he may choose to remain within the organization at Triple-A Reno.

Marte went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit home run in the Diamondbacks' 7-4 win over the Pirates on Thursday.

Marte was selected from Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Sat Dec 21 201311:23Diamondbacks ink Andy Marte to minors deal
Diamondbacks signed INF Andy Marte to a minor league contract.
The deal presumably includes an invitation to spring training. The former highly-touted prospect hasn't appeared in the major leagues since the 2010 season. He did have a resurgence in 2013 between York in the Independent Atlantic League and Triple-A Salt Lake, slashing a combined .313/.373/.536 with 25 homers and 92 RBI in 122 games. It's a nice low-risk signing for the D'Backs.

Fri Jan 25 201310:50Andy Marte lands in independent league
The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly reports that Andy Marte has signed with the York Revolution of the independent Atlantic League.
A former top prospect, Marte didn't play in 2012 after batting an ugly .202/.278/.328 with seven homers over 97 games with the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate in 2011. Now 29, he's obviously not close to making it back to the big leagues.

Pirates reassigned 3B Andy Marte to minor league camp.
Also sent to minor league camp were LHP Brian Burres, RHPs Sean Gallagher and Tyler Yates, Cs Dusty Brown and Wyatt Toregas and INF/OF Corey Wimberly. RHP Daniel McCutchen was optioned to Triple-A. With Marte sent out, that means Steve Pearce has won a spot on the Pirates' bench. Burres is a fairly surprising cut with both Scott Olsen and Joe Beimel slated to open the year on the DL.

Pirates signed INF Andy Marte to a minor league contract.
The contract includes a spring training invite. Marte, 27, became a free agent after being removed from the Indians' 40-man roster earlier this month. The former top prospect owns a meager .218/.277/.358 batting line in the big leagues and batted just .229/.298/.382 with five home runs and 19 RBI over 170 at-bats with the Indians this past season. He'll try to make the Pirates as a bench player.

Mon Jun 7 201013:56Indians activate Andy Marte from DL
Indians activated INF Andy Marte from the 15-day disabled list.
Marte missed a little over two weeks due to a non-baseball medical issue. The Indians haven't cleared up what exactly was plaguing him, but his versatility will certainly be welcomed back with open arms.
Sat May 15 201015:59Indians placed Marte on the 15-day DL
Indians placed Andy Marte on the 15-day disabled list.
Marte was said to have a non-baseball medical issue, which isn't terribly descriptive, but it's severe enough to warrant a two week layoff. Trevor Crowe was called up to take Marte's place on the roster.
Thu Apr 22 201016:04Indians' Marte homers, knocks in three
Making his second start of the year at third base, Andy Marte had a two-run homer and an RBI single Thursday against the Twins.
That's the good news. The bad was that he dropped a foul popup for an error and he had an incredibly stupid caught stealing after the single that probably cost the Indians at least one run. On that play, it appeared as though he might have saw a hit-and-run sign that wasn't there. The 26-year-old Marte may yet have some legitimate offensive potential, but he's a flawed player who may run out of chances before long.
