Gonzalez suffered the injury Saturday while sliding into second base. He will undergo a week of treatment before considering surgery. Brewers placed SS Alex Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee injury.
Gonzalez suffered the knee injury Saturday while sliding into second base on a stolen base attempt. The Brewers are waiting until the swelling subsides to put him through an MRI but are already resigned to the fact that he's going to be out a while. Carlos Gomez (hamstring strain) was also placed on the disabled list Saturday. Look for Cesar Izturis to handle starting shortstop duties.

Alex Gonzalez suffered a right knee injury sliding into second base on a steal attempt in Saturday's game.

Sat May 5 201216:41Alex Gonzalez leaves game with ankle injury
Alex Gonzalez was removed from Saturday's game in the second inning after injuring his right ankle sliding into second base.
No word yet on the extent or severity of the injury, but it didn't look promising. The Brewers already had to deal with the loss of Mat Gamel due to an ACL injury this week, if Gonzalez is out for any serious length of time it would be another crushing blow. Cesar Izturis came in to pinch run for Gonzalez, and would likely see the majority of the time at shortstop in Gonzalez' absence. We'll keep you updated as soon as more is known on this situation.

Alex Gonzalez hit a three-run homer to pace the Brewers offense in their 7-4 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday.
The first inning long ball was Gonzalez' lone hit of the night, finishing 1-for-4, but it was more than enough to lead the Brewers to victory. He's only hitting .235 on the young season, but does provide a powerful bat at the bottom of the Brewers lineup.

Wed Mar 28 201220:05Alex Gonzalez stays hot
Alex Gonzalez stayed white-hot Wednesday, singling and doubling while driving in two and scoring one against the Diamondbacks.
The offseason acquisition is now batting .405 with three homers and a 1.159 OPS this spring. It's good to see, sure, but we have plenty of evidence to suggest Gonzalez will be a streaky hitter, at best, this season. He's the owner of a career .247/.291/.399 batting line.

Tue Dec 13 201118:41A-Gon to make $4 million in contract with MIL
Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that Alex Gonzalez will make $4 million with the Brewers next season while his contract includes a $4.25 million vesting option for 2013.
The option vests if he reaches 525 plate appearances, which he has done in each of the last two seasons. The 34-shortstop year-old earned $2.5 million in 2011 while batting .241/.270/.372 with 15 home runs and 56 RBI over 593 plate appearances. While he's essentially a wash offensively with Yuniesky Betancourt, he is a major upgrade from a defensive standpoint.

Thu Dec 1 201117:38Giants talking to free agent SS Alex Gonzalez
The Giants are talking to free agent shortstop Alex Gonzalez, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
ESPN Deportes had the story first. Gonzalez was not offered arbitration by the Braves last week after batting just .241/.270/.372 across 593 plate appearances in 2011. But he has decent raw power and would be a significant upgrade out in San Francisco. He's likely seeking a two-year contract.
