RHP A.J. Achter was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake to take the roster spot of RHP Matt Shoemaker. Achter has one strikeout in one inning pitched in the majors this season.

RHP A.J. Achter was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Monday. Achter, who was called up from Salt Lake on Saturday, made one appearance for the Angels, pitching a perfect inning. Achter, 27, was acquired off waivers from Philadelphia on Dec. 17. Before Saturday, he was 1-1 with a 5.18 ERA in 18 major league relief appearances, all with Minnesota. LHP Greg Mahle, who was called up from Triple-A, took Achter's spot on the Angels' 25-man roster.

The 26-year-old right-hander has notched a solid 2.82 ERA as a reliever at Triple-A Rochester this season, but his .851 WHIP underscores how strong he has been at the minor league level in 2015. He has walked just 12 batters while tallying 45 strikeouts in 44.2 innings of work and is now on his way up to the Twins. Minnesota optioned Tyler Duffey in a corresponding roster move.

Achter has a 2.15 ERA and 38:10 K:BB ratio in 37.2 innings for Triple-A Rochester. He is the first Rochester player ever selected to back-to-back Triple-A All-Star games, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

It's a bit of a dubious honor since he's only been in the majors for seven games the past two years. Achter has a good strikeout rate (8.7 K/9) and has improved his control (1.79 BB/9), so he'll likely get another shot at the majors this season.

Achter had a 4.70 ERA this spring with a 7:4 K:BB ratio in 7.2 innings. Achter had a 2.38 ERA and 8.6 K/9 at Triple-A last season which resulted in a September call-up to the Twins. He struck out just five batters in 11 innings in the majors, but otherwise held his own with a 3.27 ERA. He could be one of the first options called up from the minors if an opening takes place in the major league bullpen.

Graham, Mark Hamburger and Stephen Pryor for the final two spots in the bullpen. He's probably behind Thielbar and Graham.
