Interim manager Pete Mackanin said Asche will not be used at third base while Maikel Franco is sidelined with a sore elbow, CSN Philadelphia reports.

The Phillies want Asche to continue his work on becoming a left fielder. Asche has played 36 games in left this season. He has been decent defensively, but he has yet to get his bat going. He is hitting just .241/.278/.349 with five home runs in 249 at-bats.

Asche is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins, Randy Miller of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

The Phillies will go with an all-lefty outfield (Domonic Brown, Ben Revere, and Odubel Herrera) to counter Marlins right-hander Dan Haren, leaving no room for Asche. With a .245/.279/.355 batting line on the season, Asche's usefulness remains relegated primarily to NL-only formats.

Asche is batting sixth in Saturday's game against the Giants.

Asche is a .247 batter this season with 17 runs on 57 hits. He has struck out 58 times on the year as well. When Asche does sit, it is likely because of a left-handed pitcher match-up that manager Bruce Bochy does not like. Asche has a .083 batting average this season against the Giants in 12 at-bats.

Asche is out of the lineup Tuesday, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports.

While Asche is in the lineup most days, he will sit with a tough lefty, Brett Anderson, on the mound for the Dodgers. Jeff Francoeur will get the start in left field Tuesday.

Asche went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Thursday's loss to the Brewers.

Asche has started to heat up a bit over the past two weeks. He is hitting .381 (16-for-42) with two home runs and five RBI during that stretch. He could use an extended hot streak as his overall slash line of .254/.289/.362 remains sub par.

Asche is out of the lineup Friday against the Cardinals, Stephen Gross of the Philadelphia Morning Call reports.

Asche hasn't done much at the plate since April, but he's still getting most of the playing time in left field. Going back to Apr. 22, he has just 22 hits (.175 BA) and six extra-base hits (no homers) in his last 126 at-bats. Even with the Phillies lacking attractive alternatives, Asche may start to see his playing time decrease.

Asche is not in the lineup Sunday against the Pirates.

Asche will take a seat in favor of Jeff Francoeur in left field, in a lineup featuring Ben Revere in center and Domonic Brown in right. The left hander is just 4-for-40 (.150) since the start of June, and hasn't hit a long ball since the season's opening month. Nonetheless, he expects to draw most starts in left field until further notice. However, the recently-promoted Brown should offer an additional challenge for playing time.

Asche is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Reds, Ryan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Asche has taken over as the everyday left fielder for the most part since returning the from Triple-A, but he'll receive a day off Wednesday. Ben Revere will shift over to left in his place, while Jeff Francoeur will enter the lineup in right field, batting sixth for the Phillies.

Asche was 1-for-3 in his return to the Phillies on Friday night.

Of note, his one hit, an eighth inning single, broke up a no-hitter being twirled by the Rockies' Chad Bettis. Asche had spent the past couple of weeks at Triple-A to hone his skills in the outfield so the team can evaluate young Mikael Franco at third base. He started in left field for this one, and should see regular time there if he displays the ability to handle the job.

Asche will play left field and bat sixth in his return to the Philles on Friday, Stephen Gross of the Morning Call reports.

Asche was sent to the minors earlier in the month in favor of Maikel Franco at third base, but was sent to the minors with the intention of a transition to the outfield. He will now move to left field following Grady Sizemore's designation for assignment, shifting Ben Revere over to right.

Asche was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Asche, who surrendered the hot corner to top prospect Maikel Franco two weeks ago, has been preparing to serve as the Phillies' regular left fielder. Asche is apparently ready to handle the defensive switch, but he still figures to be a liability at the plate. He owns a .245/.283/.349 slash line in the majors this season, despite sporting a .329 BABIP. Through 726 career plate appearances, he has 17 home runs and a 24.4 percent strikeout rate.

GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said Asche is "getting close" to a return to the majors, CSN Philadelphia reports.

Asche has hit in five straight games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, but Amaro emphasized that his return in based on defense, not offensive production. Asche is expected to take over as the Phillies' everyday left fielder when he is recalled.

GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said the reports on Asche's transition to the outfield have been positive, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Asche is being moved from third base to left field and getting game action at Triple-A Lehigh Valley before returning to the Phillies to take over in left. Amaro said Asche "needs a little bit more time" before he is ready.

Asche was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Monday where he'll start playing in left field.

Asche's move to left field has been rumored for the past two weeks and it will finally manifest as he starts out the transition at Triple-A on Tuesday. This move is in preparation for the eventual promotion of Maikel Franco from Triple-A, although Andres Blanco is expected to man third base until Franco is officially called up.

Asche is back in the lineup Sunday against the Mets.

Asche received the day off Saturday, but will return to the hot corner for the Sunday matchup. Although the Phillies plan to get him acclimated in left field soon, Darin Ruf will occupy that role in the afternoon contest.

Manager Ryne Sandberg said it is "yet to be determined" when Asche will make his first start in left field, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Asche has been working out in left field in preparation for a move there when the Phillies promote Maikel Franco from Triple-A. That could happen as soon as later this month.

Asche is not in the lineup Saturday against the Mets.

Asche is not in the lineup Saturday despite batting .400 against lefties this season and .625 against Mets starter Jon Niese in nine career plate appearances against him. Andres Blanco will start at third in Asche's place.

Asche is out of the lineup Monday against the Braves,Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.

Asche will receive the day off along with Ryan Howard due to a southpaw on the mound in Alex Wood for the Braves. He's failed to collect a hit in either of the last to contests (0-for-8 with five strikeouts), but a day off could provide him the necessary rest to turn things around.

Asche spent time Tuesday catching fly balls in left field, the Phillies' official site reports.

The Phillies are preparing for an eventual position change for Asche, which could happen when Maikel Franco gets promoted from the majors. Franco has been off to a hot start in the minors, so he will likely get a chance to show what he can do later this year.

Asche will take a seat in favor of Cesar Hernandez after going a combined 2-for-12 at the dish in his last three contests. It appears to be just a regular maintenance day, as Asche has started 16 of the first 18 games of 2015 for manager Ryne Sandberg.
