RHP Paul Clemens got the win Saturday but likely did nothing to dissuade the Marlins from pursuing an upgrade for the fifth spot in their starting rotation. He lasted five innings and allowed four runs, four hits, five walks and struck out five. Meanwhile, Miami has inquired about Jake Odorizzi (Tampa Bay Rays), Bud Norris (Atlanta Braves) and Drew Pomeranz (San Diego Padres).

RHP Paul Clemens, who was recalled from Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday, got a no-decision against Colorado on Monday. His fastball velocity was off, he had a bloody right hand from the grip on his curveball, and he lasted five innings and 78 pitches, allowing seven hits, three walks and three homers. Clemens, 28, was extremely fortunate that he allowed only three runs. It will be interesting to see how much rope the Marlins give Clemens going forward and how aggressive they might be in an effort to acquire a starting pitcher who can be an upgrade.

RHP Paul Clemens was recalled from New Orleans on Sunday. Clemens was 6-4 with a 4.30 ERA and two complete games in 14 starts at New Orleans. In 48 appearances in the majors, Clemens, 28, is 4-8 with a 5.51 ERA.

Clemens signed a minor-league contract with the Royals on Sunday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.

Clemens most recently made six appearances with Triple-A Lehigh Valley of the Phillies organization and consequentially has a good chance to immediately join Triple-A Omaha upon joining the Royals. The 27-year-old righty has bounced around quite a bit over the past five years and he'll have a hard time earning a promotion up to the majors before the season comes to an end.

The Phillies assigned Clemens to minor league camp on Sunday, CSN Philadelphia reports.

Clemens was competing for a starting or long relief gig this spring. He allowed five runs on eight hits over 8.2 innings. He also walked six batters. The Phillies will likely have him remain in a starting role at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Phillies have signed Clemens to a minor league contract.

Clemens was 0-1 with a 5.84 ERA in 13 games with the Astros this past season. He will give the Phillies some additional pitching depth in the minors.

Clemens was designated for assignment by the Astros on Tuesday.

Clemens earned his removal from the 40-man roster by compiling a 5.84 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 16:13 K:BB ratio over 24.2 innings. He's unlikely to land with another big league club before season's end.

Clemens was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City after Tuesday's game, the Houston Chronicle's Evan Drellich reports.

This leaves the Astros a little light in the bullpen for Wednesday's game, but Chad Qualls and recent call-up Mike Foltynewicz are both fresh, and could see action Wednesday. Clemens will continue to provide organizational depth in the bullpen.
