C Juan Centeno had his contract purchased by the Astros on Sunday as a corresponding move to C Brian McCann going on the concussion disabled list. Centeno was hitting .368 with seven doubles and nine RBIs over 22 games with Triple-A Fresno. He will make his Astros debut either Monday or Tuesday night against Detroit.

C Juan Centeno did his job in filling in for injured starter C Kurt Suzuki, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs Sunday. It was his first three-RBI game of the season, and he became the first Minnesota catcher since Matt Leroy to have three or more RBIs in a game at Fenway. Centeno also became the first Twins catcher since teammate 1B Joe Mauer to double twice in a game at the park. Suzuki sat, but was available on an emergency basis after taking a foul tip to the chin Saturday.

C Juan Centeno was promoted from Triple-A Rochester and added to the Twins' 40-man roster Friday. Centeno, 26, appeared in 24-major league games in parts of three seasons with the Mets and Brewers. He hit .245 with one home run and five RBIs for Triple-A Rochester before his promotion.

C Juan Centeno was outrighted to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Nov. 2 as the Brewers adjusted their 40-man roster. Centeno, 25, went 1-for-21 with no RBIs in 10 games for Milwaukee this year. He hit .295/.312/.364 with no homers and 24 RBIs in 51 games for Colorado Springs.

Centeno was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Monday.

To make room on the roster for the returning Jonathan Lucroy, Centeno will head back down to Colorado Springs. Centeno went 1-for-21 in his time with the Brewers and would likely need an injury or suspension to occur to be called back up to the majors prior to September.

Centeno is in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers.

With Martin Maldonado getting the day off with the Brewers playing a day game following a night game, Centeno will start behind the plate for the second time since being recalled Apr. 21. He will hit eighth against Dodgers starter Carlos Frias.

The Brewers called up Centeno from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

Centeno was called up to add a second catcher to the roster with Jonathan Lucroy (toe) landing on the disabled list. Centeno, who has appeared in 14 big league games in his career, will work as the backup catcher behind Martin Maldonado until Lucroy is able to return.

Centeno will be recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday.

Jonathan Lucroy is bound for the 15-day DL after fracturing his left toe in Monday's loss to the Reds, creating a void in the Brewers' catching ranks. Martin Maldonado is slated to take over as the Brewers' primary backstop, likely leaving Centeno to serve as a light-used No. 2 option behind the plate. As his three home runs in eight minor-league seasons would suggest, Centeno is a defense-first catcher with little offensive upside.

With Jonathan Lucroy and Martin Maldonado both healthy, there's no room for Centeno on the Opening Day roster. Centeno does seem to be ahead of Nevin Ashley, should the Brewers need to call up a catcher later in the season.

Centeno was claimed off waivers by the Brewers on Friday, Fox Sports Wisconsin's Andrew Gruman reports.

The 24-year-old catcher is known more for his defense than his offensive chops. He has three total home runs in his eight years in professional ball, and while he has demonstrated the ability hit for average at different stops in the minor leagues, the Brewers clearly don't plan on giving him many opportunities in the big leagues with Jonathan Lucroy signed long term.

Centeno will be promoted from Double-A Binghamton to the majors with the rosters expanding Monday, ESPN New York reports.

Centeno, who had a cup of coffee in the major earlier this year with the Mets, will be the team's third catcher behind Travis d'Arnaud and Anthony Recker.

Travis d'Arnaud (concussion) is scheduled to return from the disabled list on Wednesday, so Centeno was no longer needed. He went 5-for-21 in his short stay.
