Hiroki Kuroda allowed two runs on five hits over seven innings in a loss to the Royals on Sunday.
Kuroda continues to find moderate success without the strikeouts, as he punched out just three while walking two over his seven innings of work. The right-hander fell to 4-4 with the loss. He'll carry a 4.12 ERA and 1.22 WHIP into Friday's contest against the Athletics in Oakland.

Tue Jun 3 201423:55Kuroda allows 1 ER in 6 2/3 IP, but gets ND
Hiroki Kuroda got the no-decision, allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 10-inning loss to the Athletics.
Kuroda pitched well, making only one mistake: a fifth-inning solo home run to Brandon Moss. The Yankees weren't doing much offensively, unfortunately for the right-hander. Overall, Kuroda allowed only two hits, walked one, and struck out two. He'll take his 4.27 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 51/12 K/BB ratio in 72 2/3 innings into his next start against the Royals on the road.

Thu May 29 201400:11Hiroki Kuroda gives up three runs in win
Hiroki Kuroda picked up a win after allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings versus the Cardinals on Wednesday.
This is the typical Kuroda start this year. In fact, his ERA was left virtually unchanged by the performance, going from 4.55 to 4.57. He's still adequate for the Yankees, but he's only a spot starter in mixed leagues.

Sat May 24 201400:38Kuroda struggles in start against White Sox
Hiroki Kuroda allowed four runs (two earned) in 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Friday.
It was his shortest outing since April 25. Kuroda threw 100 pitches and couldn't make it out of the fifth inning. He gave up eight hits (including a two-run homer to Alexei Ramirez) and two walks before being pulled. The veteran right-hander has a 4.55 ERA in 10 starts this season and continues to be a risky play in mixed leagues.

Sun May 18 201416:49Hiroki Kuroda picks up win over Pirates
Hiroki Kuroda yielded three runs in six innings Sunday to pick up a win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Pirates.
Kuroda struck out seven. He has a much improved 25/3 K/BB ratio over his last four starts after coming in at 18/6 over the first five. Kuroda will face the White Sox in Chicago next time out. That's an easier assignment with Jose Abreu out, but it still doesn't make him a great play in mixed leagues.

Mon May 12 201423:19Hiroki Kuroda gives up four runs to Mets
Hiroki Kuroda gave up four runs in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Mets.
Pretty typical from Kuroda these days. He's allowed four runs in half of his starts, and he's made it through seven innings just once. That's not to say he's been awful: he has a 36/7 K/BB ratio in 48 1/3 IP. But it doesn't seem like he's going to return to early-2013 form.

Wed May 7 201401:11Kuroda whiffs 8, allows 1 ER in ND vs. Halos
Hiroki Kuroda struck out eight and allowed only one unearned run over 7 2/3 innings of work in a Tuesday no-decision win in Los Angeles against the Angels.
The Japanese right-hander held the Halos, who punched the scoreboard for two more unearned scores against Kuroda, to five hits and zero walks. It was easily Kuroda's best start of the year, a season which has had a surprising amount of misadventure for the long-time frontline starter. He entered this game with a 5.14 ERA but slashed it to 4.43. Kuroda looks to carry the momentum as he squares off across Bartolo Colon in a Subway showdown on Monday.

Thu May 1 201422:15Kuroda's struggles continue with loss to SEA
Hiroki Kuroda took the loss in Thursday's start against the Mariners, allowing four runs (three earned) in six innings.
Thursday's outing marked the third time out of six starts in which Kuroda allowed four or more runs. Overall, he allowed seven hits and walked one while striking out seven. Kuroda now has a 25/7 K/BB ratio in 35 innings. If there is a positive takeaway, it's that the seven punch-outs are a season-high for the 39-year-old.

Hiroki Kuroda was rocked for six runs over just 4 2/3 innings in Friday's loss to the Angels.
Kuroda gave up 10 hits, including a pair of home runs. The 39-year-old right-hander now holds a 5.28 ERA through five starts and hasn't completed seven innings in any of them. We expect him to be better as the season moves along, but the slow start is discouraging.

Sat Apr 19 201400:23Kuroda gives up three runs in no-decision
Hiroki Kuroda yielded three runs in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Rays on Friday night.
Kuroda left with the lead, but the Yankees' bullpen imploded in the late innings. The veteran right-hander gave up seven hits and two walks and struck out two batters. Kuroda hasn't completed seven innings yet this season, but has yet to throw a true clunker either. He'll carry a 4.07 ERA into a start against the Red Sox in Boston next week.

Sat Apr 12 201416:17Kuroda gives up four runs, still earns win
Hiroki Kuroda wasn't at his best against the Red Sox on Saturday, but managed to walk away with the victory after allowing four runs on six hits in his 6 1/3 innings of work.
Kuroda walked three and struck out five on the afternoon. He allowed a two-run homer to A.J. Pierzynski in the second inning, then held the Red Sox off the board until Matt Thornton allowed a pair of his inherited runners to score in the seventh. Kuroda, now 2-1 on the season, will carry a 3.86 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 14/4 K/BB ratio into his next outing against the Rays in Tampa Bay on Friday.

Mon Apr 7 201416:22Kuroda gets the win as Yankees top Orioles
Hiroki Kuroda pitched well and got the win in Monday's start against the Orioles, allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings.
Kuroda allowed eight hits, struck out four, and didn't issue any walks. The right-hander now has back-to-back solid starts to begin the regular season. Kuroda may be 39 years old but he doesn't appear to be in any danger of slowing down.

Wed Apr 2 201423:36Kuroda notches quality start vs. Astros
Hiroki Kuroda turned in a quality start but took the loss in Wednesday's start against the Astros.
Kuroda allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five. Dexter Fowler was a pest, leading off the game with a solo home run, then tripling and scoring in the third. The Yankee offense was unable to decipher Jarred Cosart and the Astros' bullpen, leaving Kuroda with an undeserved L.

Fri Mar 28 201421:49Kuroda holds Marlins scoreless in final start
Hiroki Kuroda held the Marlins scoreless over three innings of work in his final spring start on Friday.
Kuroda was spotless, giving up just three hits while striking out four. It's a nice finish to an otherwise troublesome spring for the right-hander. After fading badly down the stretch in 2013, Kuroda will have a lot to prove early on this year.

Wed Mar 12 201417:31Hiroki Kuroda gives up four runs to Tigers
Hiroki Kuroda was pounded for six runs and 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings by the Tigers on Wednesday.
Kuroda's bad day came against a lineup that featured four regulars, none of them named Miguel Cabrera. He looked fine in his previous start and he may have been thrown off today some by a rain delay, so we're not overly concerned.

Sat Mar 8 201410:02Hiroki Kuroda fans five in impressive outing
Hiroki Kuroda delivered an impressive performance in Friday's Grapefruit League victory over the Tigers, striking out five in 2 2/3 scoreless innings of work.
The 39-year-old hurler walked one and allowed just one base hit. Already looking like he's in mid-season form, Kuroda has now notched 4 2/3 shutout innings this spring, while posting a tidy 7/0 K/BB ratio. He doesn't quite get the strikeouts of most upper-echelon fantasy starters, but makes for a fine third or fourth option in mixed leagues.

Sat Dec 7 201314:16Yankees re-sign Kuroda for one-year, $16M
Yankees re-signed RHP Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year, $16 million contract.
Kuroda had debated heading back to Japan, but has opted for another one-year pact with the Bombers instead. The 38-year-old hurler was the most consistent starter in the Yankees rotation last season, posting a 3.31 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 150/43 K/BB ratio over 201 1/3 innings. Even with Kuroda in tow however, there is still plenty of work to be done in the Yankees rotation.

Fri Dec 6 201309:48Yankees close to re-signing Hiroki Kuroda
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Yankees are "getting closer" to a one-year deal with Hiroki Kuroda for about $16 million.
Kuroda was either going to re-sign with the Yankees or go back to Japan, and it appears he'll stick around in the Bronx for another year. The right-hander posted a 3.31 ERA and 150/43 K/BB ratio over 201 1/3 innings this past season. Kuroda will turn 39 in February and did really struggle at the end of the season, so it's possible he's at the end of the line. Bringing him back for one year is a worthy gamble, though.

Thu Dec 5 201315:24Yankees still working on Hiroki Kuroda
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that he's certain Hiroki Kuroda will pitch again in 2014 but isn't sure whether it will be in the states or Japan.
The Yankees want Kuroda back and have offered him more than $15 million on a one-year deal, Marc Carig of New York Newsday reported earlier this week. The veteran right-hander will turn 39 in February but is coming off a season where he held a 3.31 ERA and 150/43 K/BB ratio over 201 1/3 innings.

Mon Dec 2 201316:19Yanks' one-year offer to Kuroda was for $15M
Marc Carig of New York Newsday confirms that the Yankees offered Hiroki Kuroda a one-year deal worth more than $15 million.
The offer was made about one month ago. Meanwhile, the proposed salary is right in line with what was speculated by Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. Kuroda earned $15 million in 2013 while posting a 3.31 ERA and 150/43 K/BB ratio over 201 1/3 innings, so he would be getting a slight raise to return in 2014. The Yankees are aware that Kuroda takes a while to make a decision about his future, as a return to Japan has been discussed in previous years. This winter appears no different.
