Tue Jun 11 201322:29Arias goes 2-for-4 in Giants' loss to Pirates
Joaquin Arias went 2-for-4 with a run scored in the Giants' loss to the Pirates on Tuesday.
Arias is serving as the Giants' primary third baseman for the next few weeks while Pablo Sandoval recovers from a left foot strain and had a nice game Tuesday night at PNC Park. But he still owns a wretched .238/.269/.238 slash line and can be avoided in all fantasy formats. Nick Noonan will also get starts at the hot corner.

Giants avoided arbitration with INF Joaquin Arias by agreeing to a one-year, $925,000 contract.

Fri Aug 31 201210:11Joaquin Arias to receive more playing time
Giants manager Bruce Bochy plans to play the red-hot Joaquin Arias more often.
Arias is sporting a major league-leading .429 average in August. "Left field is an option, as well as picking up his time at short. We'll go with the hot hand," said Bochy. Arias has played all of one career inning in the outfield, but Gregor Blanco is batting just .205/.330/.250 in the second half, so the Giants will give him a shot in left field.

Thu Aug 23 201201:31Joaquin Arias plates five as Giants sweep LA
Joaquin Arias went off against the Dodgers in Wednesday's win, homering, doubling twice and driving in five runs.
Amazingly, Arias now has two home runs in his past five games after going deep just once in his first 192 career contests. Unsurprisingly, the five RBI were a career high for the 27-year-old utilityman, who now has 49 lifetime runs driven in. All the production helped the Giants pull off a critical sweep of their hated rival. Despite the hot bat, Arias isn't more than a desperation option in NL-only leagues.

Sat Jun 2 201222:07Arias plates winning run in Giants victory
Joaquin Arias drove home the eventual winning run on a fielder's choice in the Giants 2-1 victory over the Cubs on Saturday.
Arias finished the night 0-for-3, but his RBI was a crucial part of the Giants offense. He's seen the majority of his playing time at third base in the absence of Pablo Sandoval, but will likely get relegated back to bench duty upon Sandoval's return next week. He's not a consideration in any fantasy leagues at this point.

Sun May 13 201214:42Joaquin Arias to play 3B every day
Giants manager Bruce Bochy has named Joaquin Arias his everyday third baseman while Pablo Sandoval (hand) is on the disabled list.
He was unofficially anointed once Conor Gillaspie was sent down, and now it's official. Arias has batted just .255/.300/.340 and hasn't hit a single homer over 326 career plate appearances. He's barely worth considering even in NL-only leagues.

Tue May 8 201201:33Joaquin Arias goes 3-for-4 for Giants
Joaquin Arias went 3-for-4 and had the Giants' only extra-base hit and RBI in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
Arias isn't going keep hitting like this and he certainly can't match Brandon Crawford defensively, but the Giants need to stick with him at shortstop while he's hot. He's 11-for-32 with five RBI since his callup April 25.
