Mon Nov 12 201222:25Affeldt expected to take physical Tuesday
Jeremy Affeldt is expected to take a physical Tuesday.
If Affeldt passes -- and there's no reason to think that he won't -- his new three-year contract with the Giants will become official. That deal is thought to be worth around $18 million. Affeldt, 33, had a 2.70 ERA in 63 1/3 innings this season with the World Series champions.

Mon Nov 12 201220:25Giants, Affeldt agree to new three-year deal
According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Giants and Jeremy Affeldt have agreed to a three-year contract.
The deal is expected to be worth a total of $18 million. Affeldt boasts a 2.66 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 8.0 K/9 since the beginning of the 2011 season and held left-handed batters to a .236/.319/.302 slash line in 2012. The 33-year-old lefty drew "considerable interest" on the open market, says Heyman, before re-singing with San Fran.

Mon Nov 12 201214:38Jeremy Affeldt expected to get $18 million
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that Jeremy Affeldt's new contract with the Giants -- assuming it's completed -- is expected to be for three years and $18 million.
All signs point to the deal being finalized before long. It's a pretty big haul for the left-hander, though it can be argued that Affledt has been one of the better relievers in the National League over the last two seasons. If the deal is indeed completed, fellow lefty Sean Burnett's market value shoots up.

Fri Nov 9 201215:56Giants confident they can re-sign Affeldt
Bob Nightengale of USAToday.com reports that the Giants are "confident" they'll be able to re-sign Jeremy Affeldt.
Nightengale says it will likely be a three-year deal, which would be the second straight three-year pact the southpaw signs. He got $14 million the first time around and seems likely to receive something similar this time after putting up two straight terrific years.

Jeremy Affeldt jammed his left thumb while trying to avoid a foul ball in the dugout during Game 5 of the NLDS against the Reds on Thursday.
Affeldt was seen wearing a brace on his hand after the incident, but he said he only wore it just so he wouldn't make things worse during the team's post-game celebration. As of now, the veteran southpaw should be fine for the NLCS against either the Cardinals or Nationals.

Tue Aug 7 201223:50Affeldt, Romo to get save chances for Giants
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Tuesday that Jeremy Affeldt and Sergio Romo will get save chances going forward.
Affeldt closed out Tuesday night's 4-2 victory over the Cardinals and Romo was used in the eighth. But those roles could be reversed in the Giants' next game. Both relievers are obviously worth owning in fantasy leagues. Bochy also said Javier Lopez could be used in a pinch.

Mon Aug 6 201218:32Affeldt could get more looks in closer role
Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated Monday that the acquisition of Jose Mijares will allow him to use Jeremy Affeldt more in the eighth and ninth innings.
Santiago Casilla should still get the bulk of the save chances, but the Giants are trying to limit his innings due to concerns over a blister issue. The acquisition of Mijares should free up Affeldt to get a couple save chances here and three. The southpaw is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues if you're hurting for saves.

Wed Aug 1 201200:57Jeremy Affeldt records second save
Jeremy Affeldt pitched two perfect innings for his first second save Tuesday against the Mets.
When Brian Wilson originally went down, the Giants seemed to view Javier Lopez as more of a part of the closer-by-committee than Affeldt. Affeldt, though, is the better of the two left-handers against righties, and he's been steady all year in amassing a 2.53 ERA. With Santiago Casilla struggling, Affeldt could be in line for more save chances.

Tue May 1 201220:02Jeremy Affeldt likely to return when eligible
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Jeremy Affeldt's knee injury will require 7-10 days of down time.
He'll then need to appear in some rehab games, so a return in mid-May when he's first eligible seems likely. The 32-year-old is sporting a 4.09 ERA through 11 innings this season.

Sat Dec 3 201110:18Giants looking to move Affeldt, Ramirez
A major league source tells FOXSports.com that the Giants are trying to move Jeremy Affeldt and/or right-hander Ramon Ramirez this offseason.
The Giants exercised a $5 million option on Affeldt in October, but are trying to reduce heavy investments to their bullpen and lock-up key starters in Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain long-term. Ramirez earned $1.65 million in 2011 and is expected to see an increase in salary entering his final year of arbitration.

Sun Oct 30 201118:34Giants exercise Affeldt's $5 million option
Giants exercised Jeremy Affeldt's $5 million club option for 2012.
Affeldt would have been owed a $500,000 buyout if the Giants declined. It's the second transaction the club made Sunday concerning a left-handed reliever after inking Javier Lopez to a $8.5 million, two-year contract. San Francisco has single-handedly dried up a weak lefty free agent market, but has now devoted $9.25 million to Lopez and Affeldt for the 2012 season. Affeldt, 32, posted a 2.63 ERA and 54/24 K/BB ratio over 61 2/3 innings in 2011. The southpaw needed season-ending surgery in early-September after cutting his non-throwing hand in a kitchen accident. He should have no trouble getting back to 100 percent health by the start of spring training.

Thu Sep 29 201114:55Giants expect Affeldt to return in 2012
Giants general manager Brian Sabean said Thursday that he expects Jeremy Affeldt to return in 2012.
Sabean believes they will either pick up his $5 million club option for 2012 or negotiate a new deal. Affeldt, 32, posted a 2.63 ERA and 54/24 K/BB ratio over 61 2/3 innings this season. The southpaw needed season-ending surgery in early-September after cutting his right hand in a kitchen accident, but is expected to be ready for spring training.

Fri Sep 9 201119:53Jeremy Affeldt to miss season with cut hand
According to CSN's Jaymee Sire, Jeremy Affeldt will miss the remainder of the season after accidentally cutting his right hand with a knife while trying to separate frozen hamburgers.
He suffered nerve damage and underwent surgery on Thursday. The good news is that Affeldt is a lefty, so this shouldn't affect his ability to be ready for the start of spring training next year. Affeldt finishes his 2011 campaign with a 2.63 ERA, 1.151 WHIP and 2.25 SO/BB across 61.2 IP.
