Mike Adams (shoulder) threw one inning in a minor league game Wednesday.
The inning was Adams' first game action since having shoulder surgery last July. The right-hander will pitch again Saturday. Adams hopes to return to the team by April 15 -- just one 15-day stint on the disabled list -- but that may be a bit optimistic at this point.

Wed Mar 12 201414:33Adams (shoulder) sees live batters again
Mike Adams (shoulder, sports hernia) tossed a live batting practice Wednesday.
The 35-year-old hadn't squared off against a live batter since he was shut down last summer with a shoulder injury. "This was one of many hurdles," said Adams. "My strength is increasing. The true test will be to see how I feel tomorrow. But overall, I'm happy. I felt good." Adams assumed his career was in jeopardy after he was diagnosed with three tears in his shoulder. One of Ruben Amaro Jr.'s many regrets, Adams is in the second and last year of a $12 million contract. He'll take home $7 million whether he contributes or not.

Mike Adams threw a bullpen session Thursday for the first time since his July 2013 shoulder surgery.
Adams told reporters after the workout that his arm felt good. He's still questionable for Opening Day, but a mid-April debut seems very doable for the right-handed setup man. He owns a ridiculous 2.39 ERA and 9.0 K/9 in 388 2/3 career major league innings.

Mike Adams (shoulder) progressed to throwing on flat ground on Friday for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery last July.
He'll throw again on flat ground early in the week, and if all goes well he'll progress to mound work on Thursday. He's still a bit of a longshot to be ready for Opening Day, but he should be able to join the Phillies bullpen early in the season, and will be a very valuable setup man in front of closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Mike Adams (shoulder, hernia) is hoping to be ready to throw off a mound before the end of the month.
Adams underwent shoulder surgery last July and then had hernia surgery in December. The shoulder is the bigger issue, but it's possible he'll still have time to get ready for the start of the season. Adams should only need a handful of Grapefruit League appearances as long as he feels fine physically.

Thu Jan 23 201416:41Adams (shoulder) begins long tossing
Mike Adams (shoulder, hernia) is currently throwing long toss at a distance of 100 feet.
Adams had sports hernia surgery before the holidays, but his surgically-repaired shoulder is the bigger issue. The veteran right-hander will begin throwing bullpen sessions in mid-February and estimates that he'll need around 10 appearances to be ready for the season, but he's not going to rush things. "We're trying not to set things as far as what we're trying to do," said Adams. "We want to make sure everything is going smoothly. The last thing we want to do is rush it. So no true dates. Just more of a, hey, let's get out there and work toward making progressions and when everything feels right my body will tell me." Adams is under contract for $7 million in 2014.

Mon Dec 9 201318:55Adams recovering from sports hernia surgery
Mike Adams recently underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia.
That's on top of the shoulder surgery he had in late July. Adams said after the shoulder operation that he expected to be 100 percent for spring training, but Matt Gelb of the Philadelphia Inquirer is now saying that the reliever's timetable is "rough." Adams could be allowed to start throwing, soon, though, so there appears to be a chance he's ready for Grapefruit League action. He was limited to just 28 appearances in 2013 due to injury.

Mike Adams is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder.
Adams, currently on the 60-day DL, was hoping to avoid surgery but hasn't been able to rehab multiple tears in his labrum/rotator cuff. If he undergoes surgery, Adams will miss the remainder of this season and could be sidelined for the start of 2014.

Mike Adams will not undergo shoulder surgery to repair two tears in his right labrum and one in his rotator cuff.
It's possible he'll eventually have a procedure, but for now he will be given a platelet-rich plasma injection and go from there. Even in a best-case scenario, Adams won't return until late in the season.

Tue Jun 25 201320:06Mike Adams (shoulder) likely out for season
Mike Adams' season is likely over after he was diagnosed with two tears in his right labrum and one in his rotator cuff.
Yikes. Adams is still contemplating whether to address the injury through rehab or surgery, but, either way, he's not expected back this season. "It's not going to heal," Adams said. "Maybe I can do some stuff to get the other muscles to take over and strengthen and hold everything else intact." The reliever tore his labrum back in 2008 and had that surgically-repaired. Ultimately, he seems likely to go under the knife again. Adams is under contract for $7 million next season and has a $6 million club option for 2015 that vests with 60 innings pitched in 2014.

Mike Adams (biceps) will visit Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Tuesday.
It's not clear whether surgery is a real possibility, but the Phillies want to get a better handle on Adams' biceps issue. The reliever had dealt with the injury for a few weeks before the Phillies finally decided to play him on the disabled list over the weekend.

Sun Jun 9 201309:59Mike Adams could be out until at least Tues.
Mike Adams might not be available to pitch until at least Tuesday due to irritation in his right biceps.
Adams doesn't think the ailment is a big deal, but he said the same thing about a back strain that ultimately forced him to the disabled list. The reliever pitched through the injury for a week but decided he needed a few days to calm the pain. "It just seems like I get rid of one thing and something else pops up," Adams said. "It's not a big deal. It's just an irritation."

Sat Jun 8 201300:03Mike Adams was unavailable on Friday
Mike Adams is currently dealing with a sore shoulder and was unavailable for Friday's game against the Brewers.
It was certainly curious that Adams didn't appear in the late innings of a close ballgame, and now we have clarification as to why. Itdoesn't sound like the type of injury that should keep Adams out long though, so consider him day-to-day for the time being.
