Thu Aug 11 201119:00D'Backs transfer Gutierrez to 60-day DL
Diamondbacks transferred RHP Juan Gutierrez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Gutierrez still isn't throwing due to lingering soreness in his right triceps. He registered a 5.40 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 18 1/3 innings for Arizona earlier this year.

Fri Jul 15 201121:28Gutierrez shut down with triceps soreness
Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) was shut down from his rehab program due to triceps soreness.
Yet another setback for Gutierrez, who has been on the disabled list since late-May. The Diamondbacks likely weren't counting on him anyway, but look for them to be in the market for bullpen help as the trade deadline approaches.

Sun Jul 10 201108:45Juan Gutierrez shut down
Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) has been shut down from his throwing program due to a sore elbow.
It doesn't sound like a major setback, as Gutierrez will begin throwing again in a week. He's been out since late May and will surely need a rehab assignment before being activated.

Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) had a successful simulated game Friday.
He'll throw another simulated game on Sunday. If it goes well, he'll likely then go out on a short rehab assignment. If he doesn't have any setbacks, we're likely looking at an early July return.

Thu May 26 201119:41Gutierrez has inflammation, irritation
An MRI taken Thursday on Juan Gutierrez's right shoulder revealed only inflammation.
The rotator cuff irritation and shoulder inflammation will be cleared up with a few weeks of rest. At least, that's what the Diamondbacks are hoping. Gutierrez seems likely to make it back by the middle of June.

Fri Mar 11 201118:38Gutierrez lowers ERA to 13.50
Juan Gutierrez allowed one hit and struck out two in an inning against the Angels on Friday.
It should tell you all you need to know about Gutierrez's spring that today lowered his ERA to 13.50. His spot in Arizona's bullpen is likely safe, but his role as a setup man may not be.

Fri Mar 4 201117:46Gutierrez knocked around again
Juan Gutierrez was pummeled for three runs on five hits over just 2/3 of an inning Friday against the Padres.
The reliever's spring is off to a woeful start, as he's given up seven runs in 2 2/3 innings thus far. He has plenty of time to turn things around, but consistency has been a big problem for Gutierrez, so he'll need to sharpen things up if he wants to hold down an integral spot in the revamped D-backs bullpen.

Thu Sep 9 201000:44D'Backs' Gutierrez notches eighth save
Juan Gutierrez notched his eighth save Wednesday in the Diamondbacks' win over the Giants.
Gutierrez has allowed one run in 11 1/3 innings since the beginning of last month. Not only does he seem sure to finish out this season as a closer, but he might make a case to keep the job entering 2011.
Sat Sep 4 201000:45Juan Gutierrez earns third save in four days
Juan Gutierrez earned his third save in the last four days on Friday night by holding a one-run lead against the Astros.
We can now say with confidence that Gutierrez is the closer in Arizona. Aaron Heilman worked the eighth inning tonight as manager Kirk Gibson settles into bullpen roles. Gutierrez hasn't allowed a run in eight of his last nine appearances and should be started in all formats.
Wed Aug 25 201008:47D-backs still have no set closer
Arizona interim manager Kirk Gibson says the team still has no set closer.
Juan Guiterrez earned a save Saturday and has been unscored upon in three games since returning from the DL, but Gibson stopped short of naming him or anyone else the closer. "We look at the lineup and where we're at and try to determine how we can best get through it," Gibson said. "Would I want a closer? Sure. Has that been determined? No. We're not there." This situation could be fluid for the rest of the season.

Diamondbacks activated RHP Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) from the 15-day disabled list.
Gutierrez got the go-ahead after throwing 20 pitches in a simulated game Saturday. He has been on the disabled list since August 3 due to right shoulder inflammation. Look for him to return in a set-up role.
Sun Aug 15 201009:07Gutierrez in line to return Wednesday
Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) threw 20 pitches in a simulated game Saturday and came out of it without any problems.

Wed Aug 11 201021:19Gutierrez throws successful bullpen session
Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Wednesday.
"He threw good," D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "I'm not sure what the exit plan is for the disabled list, but it looked like he was throwing the ball good." Gutierrez should be cleared to begin a short minor league rehab assignment by the weekend. He's been out since August 3.

Sun Aug 8 201017:03Gutierrez (shoulder) plays catch
Juan Gutierrez (shoulder) played catch on Saturday and Sunday.
"I feel so much better," Gutierrez said. "The soreness has been going down pretty good." He was placed on the disabled list Tuesday with right shoulder inflammation. The throwing program he's on will progress over the coming week. A simulated game or rehab assignment will be necessary before Gutierrez' return, and one or the other could come as soon as next weekend. Gutierrez will return to a muddled closer situation at that time and could be manager Kirk Gibson's pick to return to the role, as he converted both save opportunities in July and lowered his ERA from 10.31 to 6.69 since June 1.

Tue Aug 3 201023:00D-Backs place Gutierrez (shoulder) on DL
Diamondbacks placed RHP Juan Gutierrez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.
Gutierrez has had some discomfort in the shoulder "for a while," according to D-Backs general manager Jerry DiPoto. The 27-year-old right-hander will rest for four to five days before beginning a throwing program. The team hopes he can return in two weeks. The recently-acquired Ryan Church took his place on the team's 25-man roster.
Wed Jul 21 201021:46Gibson won't name closer for Diamondbacks
Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson refused to name a closer Wednesday when probed by MLB.com's Steve Gilbert.
Juan Gutierrez has collected both of the D'Backs' saves since Gibson took over as manager, but Chad Qualls is certainly still in the running. "I'm not naming a closer," Gibson told Gilbert. While we play the waiting game, both guys are worth hanging on to in deep mixed leagues.

Sun Jul 11 201009:50D-backs still searching for closer
New D-backs manager Kirk Gibson has avoided naming a closer since he took over, and he's still not ready to hand over the gig to anyone.
"I guess I reserve the right to change my mind," Gibson said. "Do we want to have a defined back end? Of course we do, but we're not there right now." Chad Qualls, Aaron Heilman and Juan Gutierrez have all been given a crack at the job, but all three have struggled in the role. On Saturday, Qualls was offered the save chance but ultimately yielded to Gutierrez, who shut the door. The job is wide open right now, with no clear front runner.
