"He can really run, and we think there is more in the bat than we saw last year. We'll see where it goes."Stubbs is a career .244 hitter with 89 homers, 276 RBIs and 152 stolen bases in 842 games.
Tue Sep 1 201520:15Stubbs' contract purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday
Stubbs' contract was purchased from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday.
Stubbs was once one of the best defensive center fielders in baseball, but his offensive abilities have really declined over the past three or four years. He should serve as the fourth or fifth outfielder for Texas down the stretch.

Stubbs signed a minor league deal with the Rangers on Monday.
Stubbs, who cleared waivers Sunday after being DFA'd by the Rockies, will initially report to Triple-A Round Rock. He hit just .216 with an ugly 50:9 K:BB rate in 51 games for Colorado, but he's proven to be a decent power hitter in the past. As such, the 30-year-old could get a look as a September call-up, should the Rangers feel they need to add extra outfield depth.

Stubbs cleared release waivers from the Rockies and is now an unrestricted free agent, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports.
The rebuilding Rockies determined that the 30-year-old wasn't a part of their plans, but Stubbs could make sense as a fourth or fifth outfielder for a number of clubs lacking in depth. Though contact issues will be his undoing if he should land an extended run of playing time, Stubbs does offer power off the bench and a capable glove in center field.
Wed Aug 12 201516:39Stubbs designated for assignment by Rockies on Wednesday
Stubbs was designated for assignment by the Rockies on Wednesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Stubbs has struggled at the plate this season, batting just .216/.286/.431 with five home runs and 10 RBI. As a result, he's now lost his spot on the Rockies' 40-man roster in favor of Matt McBride. If unclaimed, Stubbs could wind up back in the minors.

Stubbs hasn't started any of the Rockies' last three games.
Though Stubbs' season line (.159/.256/.420) remains ugly, he had shown an improved eye at the plate prior to the All-Star break, which seemed to put him on track to claim the starting left field job. However, manager Walt Weiss has instead elected to stick with Brandon Barnes as his primary choice at the position, leaving Stubbs to settle for a fourth-outfield role for the time being. At-bats will be more difficult to come by for both Barnes and Stubbs as soon as this weekend, when Corey Dickerson (foot) could be activated from the DL.

Stubbs drew two walks and stole a base across three plate appearances in Friday's loss to the Padres.
After being demoted in May following a wretched start to the season, Stubbs has performed competently for the Rockies since rejoining the team earlier in this month. Over 24 plate appearances in July, Stubbs owns a 1.324 OPS, with three of his five hits leaving the yard and another going for a triple. If he can keep his strikeout rate closer to the 29.2 percent mark he's carried this month rather than his 47.5 percent season mark, Stubbs should be able to hold off Brandon Barnes for at-bats until Corey Dickerson (foot) returns from the DL.
Fri Jul 10 201512:05Stubbs smacked solo home run in Thursday's 5-3 win over Braves
Stubbs smacked a solo home run in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Braves.
Stubbs earned the rare start because a lefty in Alex Wood was scheduled to take the hill for the Braves, but the Rockies' lineup maneuver appeared to be spoiled when a two-hour, six-minute resulted in Wood's night ending after just two pitches. However, that didn't prevent Stubbs from coming through without the platoon advantage in his favor, as he teed off against righty reliever Jacob Brigham in the second inning for his fourth homer of the season. Alas, Stubbs would strike out in two of his other three plate appearances on the evening, a disconcerting trend that shouldn't result in a spike in playing time. Stubbs has struck out in a mind-boggling 52.1 percent of the time this season, the most of anyone in the majors -- pitchers included -- with at least 40 plate appearances.

Stubbs is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Angels.
Despite hitting his third home run of the season Tuesday, Stubbs will be replaced in left field by Brandon Barnes on Wednesday against Matt Shoemaker.

Stubbs connected on his third home run of the season in Tuesday's 10-2 loss to the Angels.
Stubbs' homer was the only extra-base hit the Rockies could muster against Andrew Heaney, whose steady performance in the place of Chad Bettis' early implosion allowed the Angels to run away with the victory. Though he earned a start Tuesday at the expense of Ben Paulsen and Brandon Barnes, Stubbs has a long way to go before he earns consideration for more frequent at-bats. He owns a .182 on-base percentage this season and has struck out in a startling 52.2 percent of his 67 plate appearances.
Thu Jul 2 201519:13Stubbs recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday
Stubbs was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Stubbs will likely serve a an additional outfielder while Corey Dickerson remains on the shelf, as Rafael Ynoa was sent down in a corresponding move. He's not in the lineup Thursday, but will be available off the bench.

Stubbs is batting .241/.364/.333 over 132 plate appearances at Triple-A Albuquerque since his demotion in May.
The Rockies could be in need of an extra outfielder with Corey Dickerson (foot) recently landing back on the DL and Carlos Gonzalez slowed by a hand injury, but Stubbs isn't really making much of a case for a promotion. His 96 wRC+ at Triple-A shows that he's providing close to average production after adjusting for his park and league level. That would be acceptable if Stubbs were a young prospect seeing Triple-A pitching for the first time, but he's a 30-year-old veteran with 788 career MLB games under his belt.
