Peralta (arm) had a rough first rehab outing for High-A Rancho Cucamonga Thursday, allowing a pair of runs in an inning of work.

The sequence went: triple, single, walk, flyout, flyout, flyout. He may need a bit longer than expected, but Peralta could be ready sometime next week.

It has been a slow road to recovery for Peralta, but the rehab assignment commencing this week points to him possibly returning to the Dodgers' bullpen sometime later this month. With Kenley Jansen holding down the closer role for the Dodgers, Peralta's value will be limited to ratios and strikeouts in leagues that don't reward holds.

A dead arm forced Peralta onto the DL in late April and a pinched nerve in his neck was discovered shortly thereafter. Manager Don Mattingly said Peralta's (arm) recovery has been put "on hold" due to a pinched nerve in his neck, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Peralta initially hit the disabled list in April due to a dead arm issue, but it appears that's not the only thing ailing the right-hander. He'll stick around with the team in Los Angeles to continue the rehab process, though it appears safe to conclude that he won't be activated from the disabled list when eligible later in the week.

Peralta had been suffering from a bout with dead arm, and it appears he will require a stint on the disabled list to work out the issues. The Dodgers recalled Carlos Frias to add another arm in the bullpen and Scott Baker, who will make a spot start for the Dodgers on Sunday.

Yimi Garcia got the save in Friday's game and has been dominant so far this season, making him the ideal pitcher to own in that bullpen other than Kenley Jansen.

Peralta has been good this season, but Garcia has been phenomenal. It's not too difficult Garcia getting more save chances in the future.

He only needed 11 pitches to induce three fly-ball outs, so he should be available again Sunday if need be.
