Thu Mar 7 201316:26John Mayberry goes 2-for-3, walks
John Mayberry went 2-for-3 with a walk Thursday versus the Twins.
Dominic Brown's early performance is getting a lot of attention in Phillies camp, but Mayberry is off to a solid 9-for-32 start with a homer and five RBI. Even if Brown locks up a starting job, Mayberry is pretty much assured a roster spot. Manager Charlie Manuel will have to decide whether to play him regularly or to platoon him with left-hander Darin Ruf initially.

Sat Sep 15 201200:41Mayberry has 3 hits, 3 RBI to lead Phillies
John Mayberry had three hits and drove home three runs, leading the Phillies to a 12-6 victory over the Astros in Houston on Friday.
He finished the night 3-for-5 with a double, run scored and three RBI. He singled home a run to cap off the four-run fourth inning, then added a two-run single in the fifth to increase the Phillies lead to 7-3. He hasn't quite lived up to the lofty expectations this season, but is still hitting a respectable .260/.315/.429 with 14 homers and 46 RBI.

Thu Aug 23 201223:45Mayberry delivers walk-off single in 11th
John Mayberry delivered a walk-off RBI single in the 11th inning on Thursday, leading the Phillies to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Reds.
Mayberry entered the game in the eighth inning as a pinch-hitter, and finished the evening 2-for-3. The Phillies loaded the bases with no outs in the 11th, and after Domonic Brown bounced into a fielder's choice that forced a runner at home, Mayberry stepped up with a critical RBI single to left off Alfredo Simon. A popular preseason sleeper option, Mayberry has struggled this season, hitting just .238 with 11 homers and 32 RBI while striking out 81 times in 311 at-bats.

John Mayberry hit a pair of solo home runs in Sunday's 12-inning win over the Giants.

Sat Jun 16 201216:29Mayberry homers in loss to Blue Jays
John Mayberry, Jr. clubbed a three-run homer Saturday against the Blue Jays.
Mayberry has gone deep in two out of his last three games. While it's a positive sign, he has just four homers and a .612 OPS over 158 at-bats this season. He'll need to sustain a long hot streak before returning to relevancy in mixed fantasy leagues.

Sat May 5 201215:40John Mayberry Jr. gets start, goes hitless
John Mayberry Jr. went 0-for-3 in his start in left field Saturday against the Nationals.
Mayberry has been limited to playing against lefties lately, and he hasn't done much with what at-bats he's gotten. He's down to .207, and he has a dreadful 19/1 K/BB ratio in 58 at-bats. His last RBI came on April 15.

Tue Apr 24 201200:38John Mayberry collects two hits in loss
Starting for the first time in four games, John Mayberry doubled and singled Monday against the Diamondbacks.
It'd help the Phillies a lot if Mayberry could get hot, but tonight's start was just his third in nine games. Maybe it will lead to more action. Besides the two hits, he also collected an outfield assist. Juan Pierre hasn't had one of those since 2002.

Sun Apr 22 201213:56John Mayberry sitting out again
John Mayberry is not in the Phillies' lineup Sunday for the sixth time in the last eight games.
Juan Pierre has basically turned into the Phillies' everyday left fielder, while Mayberry has been relegated to occasional time in left and at first base. The 28-year-old has struggled out of the gate with a .179/.179/.205 batting line following a mini-breakout last season. He should be on fantasy benches until further notice.

Wed Oct 12 201113:18Mayberry to get chance as regular player
Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said Wednesday that John Mayberry Jr. "will get every chance in the world to be a regular player" next season.
And there's every reason to believe it will happen, as Raul Ibanez is set to hit free agency, Ryan Howard is recovering from Achilles tendon surgery and Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. indicated Tuesday that he would like Domonic Brown to spend another year in the minor leagues. While Mayberry did most of his damage against left-handed pitching this season, he batted .273/.341/.513 with 15 homers, 49 RBI and an .854 OPS over 296 plate appearances. He'll open 2012 as a legitimate sleeper in fantasy leagues.

Wed Sep 21 201122:55Mayberry has another big night
John Mayberry went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's loss to the Nationals.
Mayberry's 15th home run of the season was his third of the month. He took lefty Atahualpa Severino deep for a two-run shot in the eighth. Now batting .276/.338/.528 to go along with 32 extra-base hits and 49 RBI through 250 at-bats, Mayberry should be in the starting lineup when the Phillies face left-handed pitching this postseason.

Thu Sep 15 201122:12John Mayberry hits one out
John Mayberry singled and belted a solo homer in Thursday's extra innings win over the Marlins.
Mayberry was getting a rare start in center field, as Shane Victorino was resting for the second game of the doubleheader. Mayberry has cooled a bit in September following a red-hot August, but he now has nine homers over 109 second-half at-bats.

Sat Sep 3 201109:58John Mayberry taking over in LF
John Mayberry has started 11 of the last 14 games for the Phillies.
He's not simply playing against southpaws, either, as 14 of his last 25 starts have come against right-handers. Mayberry has played some first base and center field during that stretch, so his presence in the lineup doesn't necessarily mean Raul Ibanez will be on the bench, but it's obvious manager Charlie Manuel wants to give Mayberry an extended look. We would expect both to get a good amount of playing time down the stretch.

Fri Sep 2 201122:36John Mayberry launches another
John Mayberry went deep Friday, belting a two-run shot while also adding a sacrifice fly in a win over the Marlins.
It's his 14th bomb of the season to go along with 44 RBI over just 212 at-bats. Mayberry has been earning more and more time in left field even against right-handed pitching and seems to have passed up Raul Ibanez in the pecking order.

Fri Aug 19 201100:36John Mayberry hits 10th
John Mayberry ripped his 10th homer in Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks.
The two-run shot off Ian Kennedy in the third inning proved to be the deciding runs. Mayberry would likely get overexposed if he played too much, but he's in a good situation with the Phillies now, getting starts mostly against left-handers. He's drilled southpaws to the tune of a slugging percentage over .550 this year.

Sat Aug 6 201112:37John Mayberry homers again
John Mayberry singled and belted a two-run homer in Friday's win over the Giants.
Mayberry has now gone deep in two straight games and hit four over the boards in his last 16 at-bats. His emergence has made Ben Francisco expendable, as the latter is likely to be sent down when Roy Oswalt comes off the DL. Mayberry will continue to receive spot starts against left-handed pitching.

Tue Aug 2 201100:12Mayberry's pinch-hit homer spurs Phillies
John Mayberry hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer off of Huston Street in the ninth inning on Monday, propelling the Phillies to a 4-3, 10-inning win in Colorado.
Mayberry's seventh bomb of the season was his biggest. It was his first as a pinch hitter. The Phillies are taking some flak for demoting Domonic Brown, but Mayberry's .801 OPS has Browns beat by 73 points.

Wed Jul 6 201122:56Mayberry has two-homer night in loss
John Mayberry homered twice and drove in three runs on Wednesday evening, but it wasn't enough for the Phillies in their 10-inning loss to the Marlins.
He tagged Anibal Sanchez for a two-run bomb in the first before taking Mike Dunn deep for a solo shot in the sixth. Mayberry's first career two-homer game still doesn't make him ownable in NL-only leagues.

Tue Jul 5 201111:41Phillies recall John Mayberry from Triple-A
Phillies recalled OF John Mayberry from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
With Shane Victorino out until at least Friday because of a jammed right thumb, Mayberry is getting the promotion to provide depth in the Phillies' outfield. The 27-year-old is batting .231/.316/.365 with three home runs across 104 at-bats this season in the major leagues.
