Sun Aug 23 201515:10Amarista out of lineup Sunday against Cardinals
Amarista is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Though interim manager Pat Murphy's recent lineups seemed to suggest that the Padres were attempting to break in Jedd Gyorko as their new shortstop, Amarista has been able to stave off a changing of the guard with his recent play. He's provided two-hit efforts in three of his last four games, and though he'll sit out Sunday, Amarista still appears to be the top man on the depth chart.

Amarista went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in a 9-3 win over St. Louis on Saturday.
Amarista has had a tough year as he has been hovering around the Mendoza Line all season. His value is that of only NL-only formats and he's hard to trust even in that limited of a format.

Amarista went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a triple in Sunday's game against the Marlins.
The 26-year-old has now started six of the last seven games at short, but had failed to collect a hit before Sunday's strong effort. Amarista should continue to split time with Clint Barmes after the team failed to acquire an impact shortstop at the trade deadline but he will need to improve on his .201 batting average to gain a larger role.

Amarista will pick up his sixth start at shortstop in seven games Sunday against the Marlins, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
After failing to add an impact shortstop at the trade deadline, it looks like the Padres will stick with the duo of Amarista and Clint Barmes at the position the rest of the way, with the former player set to receive the bulk of the starts. With a .196/.263/.267 batting line over 254 plate appearances on the season, Amarista has been among the worst everyday players in baseball.
Sat Jul 25 201517:11Amarista isn't in Padres' lineup Saturday against Marlins
Amarista isn't in the Padres' lineup Saturday against the Marlins, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Since assuming a super-utility role, Amarista has started four of the past five contests in center field. Moreover, he's actually produced at the plate, batting .308 (4-for-13) with two runs and three walks versus one strikeout. No matter, he'll hand over center to Will Venable, who is taking on the leadoff spot Saturday.

Interim manager Pat Murphy said Saturday that Amarista will assume a super-utility role, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
With Amarista not providing much impact at the plate as the Padres' primary shortstop this season, Murphy will temporarily employ the glove-first Clint Barmes at the position. Over time, it's expected that Will Middlebrooks will get a look once he acclimates himself to shortstop, but there doesn't seem much hope for Amarista eventually regaining a starting role. Look for him to see most of his time as a reserve at shortstop, second base, or in the outfield.
Sun Jul 5 201511:39Amarista out of lineup Sunday against Cardinals
Amarista is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals.
Amarista will now have started just two of five contests to begin the month of July, as Clint Barmes seems to be cutting into his playing time a bit. He did show improvement at the plate in June, batting .293 on the month, but a .215 season average simply isn't enough to lock him in as the everyday shortstop.
Fri Jul 3 201518:14Amarista out of lineup Friday against Cardinals
Amarista is out of the lineup Friday against the Cardinals.
Amarista entered Thursday's game for Yangervis Solarte, but will once again be out of the initial lineup after another two hitless at-bats, dropping his average to .213 on the season. Clint Barmes will once again start at shortstop, batting eighth for the Padres.

Tue Jun 30 201519:05Amarista not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Mariners
Amarista is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
Tuesday's absence marks Amarista's second in a row and third in four games. While two of those have come against opposing lefties, Amarista also sat Sunday against a right-hander, which suggests Clint Barmes currently has a leg up at the position.
Sun Jun 28 201515:29Amarista out of lineup Sunday against Diamondbacks
Amarista is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Amarista will sit for the second time in the series as interim manager Pat Murphy taps Clint Barmes for the starting nod at shortstop. Amarista didn't exactly make a strong case to stay in the lineup during his start Saturday, when he went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and committed an error.

Amarista is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, Padres broadcaster Bob Scanlan reports.
With lefty Robbie Ray due up for Arizona, Amarista will head to the bench as Clint Barmes takes over at short. Amarista has posted an .829 OPS so far in June, which is nearly double his mark from May (.418).
Tue Jun 23 201519:03Amarista not in lineup for Tuesday's game against Giants
Amarista is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants, Padres broadcaster Bob Scanlan reports.
Clint Barmes will take over at short at Amarista sits for the fourth time in the last seven games. Amarista is batting .311/.354/.489 for the month of June, but his overall numbers leave a lot to be desired and it appears he's now stuck in a relatively even timeshare with Barmes.

Amarista is out of the lineup Sunday against the Diamondbacks, play-by-play announcer Bob Scanlan reports.
Amarista picked up an RBI and a run Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk to raise his average to .218 on the season. While he likely remains the top option at shortstop, he receives more days off than the average, and Clint Barmes will start in his place again Sunday.

Amarista is out of the lineup Thursday.
Amarista has a six-game hitting streak going and has risen his average from .197 to .220 over that span. Clint Barmes will get the start at shortstop and hit sixth Thursday.

Fri Jun 12 201518:28Amarista not in lineup for Friday's game against Dodgers
Amarista is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, Eric Stephen of SB Nation reports.
He will sit after starting two straight games and six of nine to begin June, as Clint Barmes steps in at short to face lefty Clayton Kershaw. Amarista appears to still have the leg up at the position despite his dismal .205/.282/.281 batting line this season (164 PA).
Mon Jun 8 201516:09Amarista out of lineup Monday against Braves
Amarista is out of the lineup Monday against the Braves.
Amarista will sit for a second straight day Monday in favor of Clint Barmes, who's batting eighth for the Padres. Neither of the two shortstops has been overly impressive this season, so the two may continues splitting starts at the position.
Sun Jun 7 201510:21Amarista out of lineup Sunday against Reds
Amarista is out of the lineup Sunday against the Reds, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Amarista has made four straight starts at shortstop, but will sit in favor of Clint Barmes in what appears to be a routine day of rest. The 26-year-old Amarista is 4-for-16 with two doubles and three RBI to begin the month of June.
Mon Jun 1 201518:25Amarista remains out of lineup Monday against Mets
Amarista remains out of the lineup Monday against the Mets.
Amarista will give way to Clint Barmes at shortstop for the second game in a row in the third time in four days. Neither Amarista nor Barmes offers much upside with the bat, and with Barmes at least representing a top-noth option defensively, it looks like manager Bud Black has decided to go with the lesser of two evils for the time being.
