Kevin Frandsen said that he's dealing with some soreness in his left wrist, but that he should be OK.
Frandsen was forced to exit Wednesday's game after he was hit by a Justin Verlander fastball, but it sounds like the Phillies pulled him for precautionary reasons. He has the stitchings from the ball imprinted on his wrist, so at least he has a nice souvenir. The 30-year-old is expected to open the season on the Phillies' bench.

The Phillies opted to keep Frandsen on the 40-man roster all winter, suggesting that he's assured of a bench spot behind Chase Utley and Michael Young. He probably won't have any fantasy value unless one of those two gets hurt.

Frandsen received lots of playing time at third base down the stretch for the Phils, batting .338/.383/.451 with two homers over 55 games. Philly is expected to sign a third baseman this winter, allowing Frandsen to operate as a utility infielder.

The infielder doesn't know if he'll be able to play a full game without his leg bothering him, but the only way he'll find out is to give it a shot. "A couple days have done wonders," Frandsen said. "It feels good. I'm just waiting for whenever."

Kevin Frandsen has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left fibula.
He'll sit out his fourth straight game Sunday, and it's not clear when he'll return to the lineup. "He's had three days off and we'll probably give him the rest of this series off unless we need him," Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. "It's about his [pain] tolerance right now." With Placido Polanco (back) done for the year, the Phils are down to Michael Martinez at third base.

Kevin Frandsen had a big night in Thursday's loss to the Brewers, going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.
Frandsen has been receiving regular playing time at third base in the absence of Placido Polanco, and has responded by hitting .333 with a homer and five RBI over 63 at-bats. His three-run double off Marco Estrada in the fifth inning put the Phillies up 4-3. Frandsen holds very little mixed-league fantasy value, but he could be worth a look as a middle infielder in NL-only formats.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks will not be signing Kevin Frandsen.
Frandsen was expected to take a physical with the club over the weekend, but that apparently didn't take place. The 28-year-old infielder was released by the Padres last Friday and is still free to sign with any team.
