Thu Dec 20 201214:01Brewers backing away from Figaro contract
Alfredo Figaro is still under contract with Japan's Orix Buffaloes, so the Brewers are backing away from the minor league deal that they struck with him this week.
It's possible that the Orix Buffaloes will be willing to let Figaro go, but the club hasn't made a decision yet. Sun Dec 5 201012:43Report: Figaro negotiating with Orix Buffalo
Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker reports that the Orix Buffaloes are negotiating with Alfredo Figaro.
Figaro, 26, was 10-6 with a 4.14 ERA in 23 starts for Triple-A Toledo in 2010. He hasn't been as impressive in the big leagues, posting a 6.54 career ERA in 13 appearances with the Tigers over the last two years. Orix also has interest in Mike Hessman, who elected to become a free agent after spending this past season in the Mets' organization. The 32-year-old mashed again at the Triple-A level, but batted just .127 with one home run and 23 strikeouts in 55 at-bats with the big club. Both Figaro and Hessman look like Quad-A players, so Japan could be an interesting alternative option for them.

Triple-A Toledo's Alfredo Figaro struck out seven in seven scoreless innings Tuesday to lower his ERA to 1.99.
Figaro was jumped from Double-A to the majors last year and had a 6.35 ERA in three starts and two relief appearances.
