Castillo (shoulder) has resumed baseball activities, throwing over the weekend and hitting off a tee Wednesday, Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports.
Castillo landed on the Triple-A disabled list last Tuesday as he deals with inflammation in his right shoulder, but appears to be progressing well. There's still no timetable available for a return, but he'll likely head back to Triple-A Pawtucket when he is healthy before getting the opportunity to join the big league club.
Thu Apr 16 201507:45Castillo (shoulder) reports feeling much better
Castillo (shoulder) reports feeling much better, but reiterated what manager John Farrell said Tuesday, which is that there's no specific timetable for his return, the Providence Journal reports.
Castillo also downplayed his inability to play for long stretches without getting hurt. Since joining the Red Sox last August, he's suffered thumb, oblique and shoulder injuries. "I wouldn't say it's frustrating. Obviously you'd like to have some more consistency and string some more at-bats together, but sometimes things happen for a reason," he said. "It's kind of important to stay strong-willed and keep the bigger picture in mind and move forward."
Tue Apr 14 201515:26Castillo diagnosed with inflammation in right shoulder
Castillo has been diagnosed with inflammation in his right shoulder, Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports.
The Red Sox brought Castillo to Boston to have his left shoulder checked out after he injured himself on a diving play in Saturday's game with Triple-A Pawtucket. Fortunately, no structural damage was found, but Castillo is expected to need a couple weeks of rest to let the inflammation die down. Castillo was off to a 5-for-12 start with Pawtucket but this injury will only further delay his return to the majors.

Castillo (shoulder) will be placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Pawtucket, the Boston Globe reports.
Castillo injured his shoulder while trying to make a diving play over the weekend, and he was then examined in Boston on Monday. The Red Sox don't expect the young center fielder to need surgery, but this could still push back his timeline for a return to the big-league roster. Both Castillo and Jackie Bradley Jr. are off to strong starts with Triple-A Pawtucket, while Mookie Betts has been excellent for the Red Sox.

Castillo, who jammed his left shoulder after making a diving catch for Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday night, will be examined in Boston on Monday, the Boston Globe reports.
Castillo was pinch-hit for in the game and did not play in the PawSox game Sunday. The organization downplayed the injury and it's quite natural they want to proceed cautiously with its $72 million investment.

Castillo did not start Sunday's game for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Castillo started in right field and went 2-for-4 with two runs, a walk and a stolen base for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.
Castillo, the $72 million dollar minor-leaguer, continued to show the dynamism he displayed in spring training. He's normally a center fielder, and it doesn't take a scholar to divine what his start in right field portends for Boston's starting right fielder Shane Victorino. If Castillo remains healthy, he'll force his way up to Boston.
Thu Apr 2 201516:04Rusney Castillo: Optioned to Triple-A
Castillo was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Although Castillo fared well at the plate in his nine games this spring (9-for-29), the time lost to the oblique injury, the outstanding play of Mookie Betts, and the sustained health of Shane Victorino ultimately resulted in his demotion. The 27-year-old Castillo said earlier in the spring that starting the year in Triple-A wouldn't affect his plan for the season, and it seems like only a matter of time before he's up and making an impact, but it will likely take an injury or trade for him to get that opportunity.

Castillo went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and made initiated a double-play in extra innings in a game against the Rays on Sunday.
Castillo, playing right field, ranged into foul territory to make a sliding catch and popped up to nail the runner from third base attempting to score in the top of the 10th inning. He then got on base in the bottom of the inning and eventually scored the winning run. He looks ready to start the regular season in Boston, but its crowded outfield situation still needs to be sorted out.

Catillo hit a walk-off homer in Thursday's game against the Twins.
In just 10 spring at-bats, Castillo has four hits, two homers and four RBI. For someone that missed two weeks of preparation, Catillo looks like he's ready to start the season.
Wed Mar 25 201509:41Castillo exposed to right field last two days
Castillo has been exposed to right field the last two days, the Providence Journal reports.
It's been posited that Castillo, who missed two weeks of training camp with an oblique injury, could open the season at Triple-A but Shane Victorino's durability has become a concern in Boston's clubhouse. Having Castillo acclimate to a new position is insurance should Victorino begin the regular season on the disabled list. If Victorino is active, but not a full-time player, then Boston could cover him with Daniel Nava and/or Allen Craig, thus allowing Castillo to get regular at-bats at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Fri Mar 20 201518:35Rusney Castillo: (Oblique) Homers In Debut Friday
Castillo (oblique) came off the bench and hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning of Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. He will start Saturday against the Pirates, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
Making his first career Grapefruit League appearance -- the game he played earlier this spring was an exhibition against Boston College -- Castillo crushed a Steve Johnson pitch well beyond the left field wall after replacing Mookie Betts in center in the top of the frame. An oblique injury kept Castillo off the field for more than two weeks, putting him well behind Betts in the competition for the starting center field job. It's entirely possible Castillo could end up at Triple-A Pawtucket to begin the year, but he will make the decision difficult if he rakes over the final weeks of spring training, and of course any injury to Shane Victorinio or Hanley Ramirez would create an opportunity for playing time.

Castillo (oblique) could make his Grapefruit League debut Saturday against the Pirates, MLB.com reports.
In Castillo's lone game with the big club this spring, a March 3 exhibition against Boston College, he swung awkwardly at a pitch and suffered a left oblique strain. The 27-year-old is finally on the verge of rejoining big league camp, having made it through two minor league games without issue. He will play both center field and right field over the rest of the spring, with Mookie Betts possibly playing some right when Castillo is in center, but Castillo has acknowledged the possibility he could start the year at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Thu Mar 19 201507:32Castillo said he's okay starting regular season in minors
Castillo, who missed two weeks of spring games because of a strained oblique, said he's okay starting the regular season in the minors, the Boston Herald reports.
Boston still has 17 Grapefruit League games remaining, so it's possible Castillo can get himself ready for Opening Day -- he thinks he can -- but he seems to be preparing himself mentally to start at Triple-A Pawtucket for some undetermined length of stay. The consensus throughout the offseason and spring is that Boston would clear some of its glut in the outfield via trade -- or Hanley Ramirez / Shane Victorino might require some DL time -- situations that would create a spot for Castillo on the roster. But at this time, the Red Sox have some roster juggling to perform.

Castillo (oblique) is expected to rejoin the big league club this weekend following minor league games Wednesday and Thursday, CSN New England reports.
Castillo faced live pitching Monday, and appears to be on the cusp of returning. Unfortunately for him and owners, Mookie Betts has performed admirably in camp and has likely secured the starting job in center field to begin the season. Castillo can still leave a print over the next couple weeks, but will likely begin the season as the Red Sox's fourth outfielder.
