Sun May 24 201509:10Castillo 1-4 in Saturday's win over Angels
Castillo went 1-for-4 in Saturday's win over the Angels. He's 2-for-8 with a fielding error in the two games since being called up.
Castillo started in center field Saturday in place of the resting Mookie Betts, but was moved to right field when Betts entered the game as a replacement for the injured Shane Victorino (calf). It's time the Red Sox view Victorino as a fourth outfielder, while considering Castillo the everyday right fielder.

Castillo was 1-for-4 with a run scored in a losing cause against the Angels on Friday night.
It was his 2015 debut for the Red Sox, and has been anxiously anticipated by his fantasy owners. He hit eighth in the order, and the team has indicated he will initially be in a rotation with Mookie Betts and Shane Victorino in center and right field, so he will need to hit his way into more playing time and a better spot in the batting order if he wants to enhance his fantasy resume.

Castillo will start in right field and bat eighth Friday against the Angels, Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston reports.
The call Castillo's fantasy owners have been waiting for finally came Friday, with the team bringing the 27-year-old up to replace Jackie Bradley Jr. on the active roster. Castillo will bat eighth against right-hander Garrett Richards in his 2015 debut, and manager John Farrell said there will be a rotation in right field and center field moving forward with Castillo, Mookie Betts and Shane Victorino (calf).

Castillo has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket and will start in right field for Boston on Friday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.
The rumors of Castillo's potential call up to Boston have finally come to fruition as the Red Sox have made room for him by optioning Jackie Bradley Jr. to Triple-A Pawtucket. He'll take the field in right Friday as the Red Sox face Garrett Richards and the Angels.
Wed May 20 201516:34A promotion for Castillo not imminent
A promotion for Castillo is not imminent, according to manager John Farrell, the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber reports.
He is expected back in the Triple-A Pawtucket lineup Thursday after tending to a personal matter. What Farrell said Wednesday directly contradicts what he said Tuesday about Castillo nearing a promotion, so it's hard to read too much into this other than to note that Castillo will report to Triple-A on Thursday before the Red Sox consider promoting him. Common sense suggests he will be up with the big league club in short order.
Tue May 19 201520:32Rusney Castillo: May Be Nearing Promotion
Red Sox manager John Farrell suggested Tuesday that Castillo may be nearing a promotion to the majors, MLB.com reports. "What's taken place is his timing, his ability to impact the baseball is starting to show up a little bit more," Farrell said. "He's returned home obviously for the birth of his child. That's going to be a couple of days. Whether or not we allow him to get a game under his belt at Pawtucket before possibly looking at a change here, those are all possibilities."
Boston's offense struggled during its recent road trip, scoring more than two runs just three times in 10 games, and it seems the club is intent on getting some return on its $72.2 million investment in Castillo in the near future. The 27-year-old Castillo was a bit slow to get his timing back after an oblique injury delayed him in spring training and then a shoulder injury forced him onto the DL in April, but Castillo has collected seven hits -- including two homers -- in his last three games with Triple-A Pawtucket to raise his batting line to .304/.355/.449 in 76 plate appearances.

Castillo is showing signs at Triple-A Pawtucket that he's not ready for a promotion to the big leagues, the Boston Globe reports.
As an indication of this, Castillo showed poor instincts and timing in a game Wednesday night that ended early when he hurt his ankle. He was picked off third when attempting to bluff while tagging up; he dived on a soft fly ball and missed it by a foot or two, turning a single into a triple; and his timing of a slide was off that resulted in his injury. The Red Sox are content to allow him to build up at-bats and consistent playing time, feeling he's still in a spring-training mode.

Castillo, who had left Wednesday's game with an ankle injury, started in center field and went 0-for-3 for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.
It's a good sign that Castillo was back in the lineup the very next day and playing in the field.

Castillo (ankle) is back in the lineup at Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports.
Castillo suffered a mild ankle sprain Wednesday and was removed from the game for precautionary reasons. It doesn't look to be anything serious, as he's back in the lineup batting second and manning center field.
Wed May 13 201514:04Rusney Castillo: Suffers Mild Ankle Sprain
Castillo suffered a mild ankle sprain in Wednesday's game and his removal was precautionary, the Boston Herald's Scott Lauber reports.
He should be considered day-to-day for now, but this is just another in a long line of injuries that have slowed Castillo's progress this season.

Castillo left Wednesday's game under his own power after sliding awkwardly into second base, the Pawtucket Times' Brendan McGair reports.
He may have caught a cleat while sliding but there is no exact word on the nature of the injury. This has certainly not been the start to the season anyone envisioned for Castillo, as injuries have significantly slowed his progress and halted his development at every turn. Jackie Bradley was recalled the Boston recently over Castillo and at this point if Castillo could just get healthy for an extended period of time with Triple-A Pawtucket that might be considered a success in his development.

Castillo hit leadoff and started in center field for Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday. He went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Castillo stepped into the role held by Jackie Bradley, who was promoted to Boston over the weekend.
Fri May 8 201506:37Castillo 2-5 with double for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday
Castillo went 2-for-5 with a double for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday. It was his second straight multi-hit game after going hitless since his return from a shoulder injury.
If only Castillo could pitch, he might have a role in Boston. Right now, Boston's outfield is pretty crowded. Shane Victorino (hamstring) is due back as soon as Monday and Hanley Ramirez's shoulder injury isn't as bad as first feared. The most likely path to the majors is at right field, a position where the Red Sox are last in MLB in slugging.

Castillo was back in the lineup Friday night after a day off and went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter for Triple-A Pawtucket.
Castillo was activated off the disabled list Wednesday and has served as the designated hitter in both games he's played. There's no word on when he'll get back onto the field, an event that will need to happen before the Red Sox will consider him for a promotion to Boston.

Castillo (shoulder) returned to the lineup for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday and went 0-for-4 as the designated hitter.
Castillo merits a little more interest now that Shane Victorino (hamstring) has landed on the disabled list, but he needs to stay healthy and force his way to Boston.
Wed Apr 29 201517:23Rusney Castillo: (Shoulder) Activated From Minor League DL
Castillo (shoulder) was activated from the minor league disabled list Wednesday, ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes reports.
There is no word on when Castillo will be deployed in the Triple-A Pawtucket lineup, but it will likely be in the very near future. The Red Sox don't really need Castillo at the big league level at the moment, even with Shane Victorino (hamstring) on the DL, but if he can make an impression at Triple-A, a call-up will be inevitable.
Tue Apr 28 201506:17Castillo (shoulder) took batting practice Monday
Castillo (shoulder) took batting practice Monday, the Boston Globe reports.
If all goes well, Castillo is expected to return to Triple-A Pawtucket's lineup this week, starting at designated hitter.
Fri Apr 24 201517:31Castillo (shoulder) could DH for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday
Castillo (shoulder) could DH for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Castillo continues to work his way back from a shoulder injury suffered while diving for a ball in the outfield earlier in April. It appears he's finally close to returning as a designated hitter, but it remains to be seen when he will retake the field.
