The Phillies have released Sizemore, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Sizemore was designated for assignment Friday to make room for Cody Asche on the Phillies' active roster. He has hit .245 with six RBI in 104 plate appearances this season.

The veteran outfielder batted .245/.288/.296 over 39 games this season, but the outfield alignment becomes unclear at this point. Sizemore will go on waivers, and if unclaimed, could be outrighted to the minors.

Sizemore had begun to get more consistent playing time in May, logging 64 at-bats, but he was designated in order to recall Cody Asche from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. It has been a long road back to baseball for Sizemore, who missed three full seasons due to injuries before making his return last year. Sizemore talked about how fortunate he was to be able to come back earlier this month. "I've gotten lucky," he told Philly.com. "I think from where I was the last four, five years to the last year and a half, it's as good as I could have asked for. Hopefully I can stay on that course and continue to get stronger. And stay healthy, that's the key. If you stay healthy you can get reps and hopefully you can get back into the swing of things and feel normal again."

Sizemore is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals.

Sizemore has made back-to-back starts in right field, but will give way to Jeff Francoeur with lefty Gio Gonzalez on the hill for the Nationals. The move will allow manager Ryne Sandberg to rest his veteran and play matchups in the lineup.

This will be a trend in the coming weeks with the Phillies getting some players back from the minors and the DL, so his relevance in deeper leagues could soon be coming to an end. Jeff Francoeur gets the start in right field Thursday.

Sizemore is expected to begin losing time after Cody Asche is recalled from Triple-A, but he'll lose a start Wednesday to Jeff Francoeur, who'll play in right field and bat sixth for the Phillies.

Sizemore's playing time will be at risk when the Phillies recall Cody Asche from the minors, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

Sizemore has seen most of the playing time in right field of late for the Phillies. Asche is expected to rejoin the team at some point in the next month to take over as a regular in left field. That will push Ben Revere over to right. Domonic Brown is also likely to be recalled at some point, further reducing Sizemore's opportunities for at-bats.

Sizemore went 4-for-5 Saturday with a double and a run scored.

The big day added more than 40 points to Sizemore's batting average on the season, and he's now slashing .275/.315/.319. With no home runs or steals though, and just six RBI and three runs in 29 games, he's of marginal fantasy use only in the deepest of leagues.

Sizemore will start in right field Sunday against the Mets.

Sizemore had been riding the pine for five straight games, but will join Darin Ruf and Ben Revere in the outfield Sunday afternoon. The veteran produced a multi-hit effort the last time he drew a start, but owns a meager .495 OPS through his first 49 at-bats of 2015.

For at least a short-term basis, Sizemore appears to have pilfered an everyday outfield spot from Jeff Francoeur. The Phillies have been slotting Sizemore into the fifth spot in the order and will do so again Sunday, but the 32-year-old will need to first supply production before most fantasy players consider picking him up off the waiver wire. He's batting a horrid 7-for-42 (.167) over the first month of the season.

Sizemore will continue to split time with Jeff Francoeur in right field until Domonic Brown earns a promotion back to the majors.

Brown was activated off the disabled list Tuesday, but was optioned to Triple-A. He is likely to get another shot at the starting right field job this season, but he will need to start hitting in the minors first. Neither Francoeur or Sizemore have done much with their opportunities thus far. Sizemore is hitting .125/.176/.156 in 32 at-bats.

Manager Ryne Sandberg declined to commit to Sizemore as his Opening Day right fielder despite having him start in right for a third straight game Thursday, the Phillies' official site reports.

It is clear that Sandberg is leaning toward going with Sizemore in right field while Domonic Brown is sidelined with an Achilles injury. Jordan Danks is the other candidate for the job.

Sizemore has an opportunity to begin the year as the Phillies' starting right fielder with Domonic Brown opening the year on the disabled list. Jordan Danks, Brian Bogusevic, Jeff Francoeur and Russ Canzler also remain in the mix for a roster spot and potential at-bats in right field.

Sizemore left Wednesday's spring training game after getting hit on the knee by a pitch, the Phillies' official site reports.

Manager Ryne Sandberg said the move was precautionary and that Sizemore felt fine afterward. He is expected to split time in left field this season with Darin Ruf. Rule 5 pick Odubel Herrera could also earn some playing time in left with a strong showing this spring.

Sizemore began the 2014 season with the Red Sox before being released outright in June. He signed on with Philadelphia shortly after and went on to appear in 60 major league games, hitting .253/.313/.389 with three home runs and 12 RBI in 162 at-bats. His numbers tailed off considerably toward the end of the season - Sizemore went 4-for-41 at the dish in September - but he played well enough to earn another deal, which includes performance bonuses likely based upon plate appearances.

Sizemore hit his fifth home run of the season, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI in the loss to Atlanta Wednesday.

Sizemore has proved a solid pickup for the Phillies, now slashing .304/.360/.480 in 122 at-bats with his new club.

Sizemore was 1-for-4, but perhaps more importantly, dropped a routine flyball that lead to three unearned runs and contributed to a 4-1 loss to the Mets on Friday night.

He was claimed off of revocable waivers earlier this week but the Phillies pulled him back. He can't be dealt now, but this performance probably won't help him get playing time going forward so his fantasy value remains limited.
