Mon Apr 15 | 23:22 | Tommy Pham Signs Minor-League Deal With White Sox | Tommy Pham | DH | Cardinals | Free Agent |
Free-agent outfielder Tommy Pham officially signed a minor-league deal with the Chicago White Sox on Monday. He'll make $3 million in the majors with $1.5 million in incentives and must be added to the big-league roster by April 25 or he can request his release. Pham will also receive $500,000 if he's traded. The 36-year-old veteran instantly becomes one of the team's better position players with both Luis Robert Jr. (hip) and Yoan Moncada (groin) out with injuries, but it remains to be seen how quickly Pham can get up to speed to join the White Sox in what should be a pretty regular outfield role. At the very least, he's worth a pickup in AL-only leagues, although Pham won't have chances to drive in runs for a bad White Sox team. He hit .256/.328/.446 with 16 homers, 68 RBI and 22 stolen bases in 129 regular-season games with the Mets and Diamondbacks in 2023. |

Mon Apr 15 | 22:22 | Kirby Yates Earns Save Monday, Could Be Rangers' New Closer | Kirby Yates | RP | Rays | Free Agent |
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that the team will still keep things open in the closer role, but with the way right-hander Kirby Yates is throwing the ball right now, "we kind of like where it's at." In the 1-0 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday, Yates tossed a perfect inning with no hits allowed, no walks and no strikeouts to pick up his first save of the season. The 37-year-old veteran hasn't allowed a run yet in 2024 in six relief appearances while walking one and striking out five in six innings of work. Meanwhile, Jose Leclerc has surrendered eight earned runs on seven hits (one homer) while walking seven and fanning six in six innings. Nothing is official yet, but fantasy managers that are chasing saves should run to the waiver wire to pick up Yates right away. |

Mon Apr 15 | 22:16 | Max Scherzer Eyeing "Early May" Return | Max Scherzer | SP | Tigers | Brasco's Bold Team |
Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (back) could now be ready in early May despite initial evaluations placing his likely return around June or July, and his first minor-league rehab start could potentially come as early as next week. Scherzer threw 25 pitches of live batting practice at Comerica Park on Monday and said the next step is throwing 40 pitches on Friday. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer had surgery to fix a herniated disc in his back on Dec. 15. General manager Chris Young said Scherzer attempted several "conservative treatments in pain management," including an epidural, but the pain never went away, which is why he had offseason surgery. Scherzer probably isn't going to be a fantasy ace any more, but he's still plenty capable of delivering a dominant outing every now and then if he can remain healthy after he returns from his back injury. |

Mon Apr 15 | 22:01 | Matt Carpenter Progresses To Swinging | Matt Carpenter | 2B/3B | Cardinals | Sanders Team Sucks |
St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (oblique) is currently traveling with the team during their three-game series against the Oakland Athletics, and he took infield practice in Arizona this past weekend. Carpenter was put on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right oblique ahead of April 4's game against the Miami Marlins, and it would appear that a return in late April could be in the cards. After signing a two-year deal this past offseason with the team that drafted him, the 38-year-old former All-Star made St. Louis' Opening Day roster following a strong spring that saw him hit .346 (9-for-26) with five doubles, one home run, and five RBI in 13 outings. He figures to serve as the Cards' primary designated hitter against right-handed pitching upon his eventual return, but there's no clear-cut fantasy beneficiary of his absence at this time. |

Mon Apr 15 | 21:16 | DJ LeMahieu Could Begin Rehab Assignment Thursday | DJ LeMahieu | 2B/3B | Rockies | Free Agent |
New York Yankees third baseman DJ LeMahieu (foot) is with the team on their current road trip in a three-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager Aaron Boone is encouraged by the veteran infielder's progress as he recovers from a non-displaced fracture of his right foot, and he said it's "very possible" LeMahieu will go on a rehab assignment when the club returns home on Thursday. With the Yankees struggling to find a consistent answer in the leadoff spot, the 35-year-old hitting machine will be an option for that role when he returns after hitting .273 (60-for-220) with eight home runs, nine doubles, 27 runs scored, and 36 walks in 60 games post-All-Star break last year. He has a chance to return before the end of April. The switch-hitting Oswaldo Cabrera is hitting .289 with an .888 OPS, three homers, and 11 RBI in his first 12 games of the campaign and remains worth rostering in all fantasy leagues while he's running hot. |

Mon Apr 15 | 19:44 | Jason Heyward Still Dealing With Back Soreness | Jason Heyward | CF/RF | Braves | Strafford's Old Men |
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that outfielder Jason Heyward (back) is still dealing with residual soreness in his back. There is no timetable for his return, but Heyward would have to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list because he's already missed two weeks. Until the 34-year-old veteran left-handed swinger is able to return to the big-league roster, Teoscar Hernandez should continue to regularly play right field, with Chris Taylor also seeing additional playing time for the Blue in the outfield. Heyward should play regularly against right-handed pitching when he's healthy again. The former first-rounder in 2007 by the Atlanta Braves had gone 3-for-14 with two RBI in four games this year before landing on the IL. |

Mon Apr 15 | 19:21 | Justin Verlander Could Make Season Debut This Weekend | Justin Verlander | SP | Tigers | Jobu |
Houston Astros right-hander Justin Verlander (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Tuesday, and if all goes well, he will return to the team's starting rotation this weekend to face the Washington Nationals in his 2024 debut, according to manager Joe Espada. Verlander said he feels ready despite giving up five earned runs on seven hits while walking a batter in four innings (77 pitches) in a minor-league rehab start for Double-A Corpus Christi on Saturday. The Astros could really use the 41-year-old three-time Cy Young winner back in their banged-up rotation, and a start this weekend against the Nats would be a plus matchup for fantasy managers in Verlander's first start of the year. Don't expect ace-like numbers from Verlander at his age, but he still has the potential to be a strong No. 3 if he can stay healthy. |

Mon Apr 15 | 19:16 | Salvador Perez Has Grade 1 Groin Strain | Salvador Perez | C | Royals | Who's on First |
An MRI exam on Monday morning revealed that Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin) has a Grade 1 groin strain. Perez said he's pain-free and just has a little tightness/pinch after getting hurt on Sunday against the New York Mets. The veteran backstop was held out of the lineup on Monday versus the Chicago White Sox but is hoping to return to action on Tuesday. He went straight to manager Matt Quatraro's office on Monday and lobbied to play, but Freddy Fermin is doing the catching and is batting eighth against White Sox rookie righty Nick Nastrini. The 33-year-old Perez shouldn't need a trip to the injured list, and fantasy managers should check back on Tuesday to see if he's back in the starting lineup. Perez is off to a great start in 2024, batting .339 (21-for-62) with four home runs, two doubles and 15 RBI in just 16 games. |

Mon Apr 15 | 18:50 | Christian Bethancourt Lands On Injured List | Christian Bethancourt | C | Braves | Free Agent |
Miami Marlins catcher Christian Bethancourt (illness) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday. It appears Bethancourt is dealing with some sort of illness and he'll be sidelined for at least a week or so. In a corresponding move, the Marlins have selected catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Jacksonville. He figures to split up the playing time behind the plate with Nick Fortes while Bethancourt is sidelined. |

Mon Apr 15 | 18:30 | Christian Yelich Sitting Out On Monday | Christian Yelich | CF/LF | Marlins | Lazar's Team |
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the starting lineup ahead of Monday's game against the San Diego Padres. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined since being forced to exit early on Friday due to back discomfort. For the moment Yelich is considered as day-to-day, but fantasy managers shouldn't be shocked if Yelich ends up on the injured list. Sal Frelick will bat third and cover left field during Monday's game. |

Mon Apr 15 | 18:14 | Gerrit Cole Expected To Throw On Tuesday | Gerrit Cole | SP | Pirates | Lazar's Team |
New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole (elbow) didn't throw at all on Monday, according to manager Aaron Boone. The right-hander continues to slowly work his way back up from an elbow injury that has sidelined him since the beginning of the season. It sounds like the plan is to have Cole rest on Monday before throwing again on Tuesday. He's expected to throw up to 75 feet during his Tuesday session. Fantasy managers will continue to need to be patient with Cole. He likely won't be back in the Yankees rotation until the end of May. |

Mon Apr 15 | 16:52 | Giancarlo Stanton Getting A Breather Monday | Giancarlo Stanton | RF | Marlins | Lazar's Team |
New York Yankees outfielder/designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton will start on the bench on Monday versus the Toronto Blue Jays. With Stanton starting on the pine, outfielder Aaron Judge is serving as the designated hitter and batting third, while Trent Grisham gets the start in center field and will hit ninth against Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassett. Judge has hit .222 in nine career at-bats against Bassitt, while Grisham has hit .167 in just six career at-bats against Bassitt. The biggest takeaway for Stanton after the first 13 games of the 2024 season is that he's managed to stay healthy so far. In his 55 plate appearances to begin the year, he's gone 13-for-52 (.250) with four home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored. As long as he stays healthy, Stanton can always provide elite power numbers in a strong Yankees lineup. |

Mon Apr 15 | 16:14 | Salvador Perez Not Playing Monday | Salvador Perez | C | Royals | Who's on First |
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (groin, hip) is not in the starting lineup on Monday against the Chicago White Sox on the road. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Perez isn't in there after he was pulled early from Sunday's game New York Mets with left groin and hip injuries. Catcher Logan Porter is currently on the team's taxi squad to begin the week just in case the 33-year-old Perez's injury ends up costing him more than just a few days. Freddy Fermin would be the team's primary backstop if Perez is forced to the injured list. Fermin is behind the plate and is batting eighth on Monday against White Sox rookie right-hander Nick Nastrini, who is making his big-league debut. Fermin has just five hits in his first 26 at-bats in 2024 for a .192 batting average and one RBI. |

Mon Apr 15 | 14:47 | Sonny Gray Will Be Limited To 75 Pitches In Monday’s Start | Sonny Gray | SP | Athletics | CJ's Tip-Top Team |
St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Sonny Graywill be limited to 75 pitches in Monday's start against the Oakland A's. Gray spent a large portion of spring training dealing with a hamstring issue that limited him to just two starts, so it makes sense why the Cardinals are gradually increasing the veteran's pitch count. In his first start of the year against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 9, he threw 64 pitches across five shutout innings. Now, St. Louis has set his limit at around 75 pitches in his second start. The pitch limit shouldn't worry fantasy managers, though. If you roster the 34-year-old in fantasy, you should be starting him in a plus matchup against Oakland. |

Mon Apr 15 | 12:31 | J.D. Martinez To Resume Swinging Monday | J.D. Martinez | DH/LF/RF | Tigers | Springfield Bullies |
New York Mets designated hitter J.D. Martinez (back) is scheduled to resume swinging the bat on Monday and is still a few days away, according to manager Carlos Mendoza, of getting back into a minor-league game. Martinez hasn't played since last Saturday for Low-A St. Lucie after which he started to feel back tightness. The veteran right-handed slugger received a shot in his back last Tuesday. The Mets signed the 36-year-old late in spring training, but he didn't join the club for Opening Day as he tried to get his timing down at the plate before hurting his back. He probably won't resume his minor-league rehab assignment until later this week, but if he continues to feel good this weekend, there's a possibility that Martinez could join the Mets for his team debut sometime next week. |

Mon Apr 15 | 09:38 | Salvador Perez Has Left Groin, Hip Injuries | Salvador Perez | C | Royals | Who's on First |
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez suffered a left groin and hip injury on Sunday when he collided with New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte at home plate. The veteran backstop left the game and was seen limping off of the field following the collision. He will be evaluated on Monday and an update is expected before the club kicks off a series against the rival White Sox. It's been a big start to the 2024 season for the long-time Royals catcher as Perez has hit .339 with four home runs and 15 RBI across 16 games and 65 trips to the plate, posting a healthy .934 OPS in the process. The heavily-used backstop continues to deliver quality power numbers into his mid-30s and should continue to drive in plenty of runs on an improved Royals offense in 2024. |

Mon Apr 15 | 00:47 | Jose Altuve Lifts Astros With Two Homers | Jose Altuve | 2B | Astros | Springfield Bullies |
Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve continued his torrid start to the season on Sunday, smacking a pair of homers in an 8-5 win over the Texas Rangers. Altuve went 3-for-5 on the day, adding two runs and two RBI as well as a stolen base. He is now up to a .382 AVG to go with five homers and a stolen base. The 33-year-old isn't showing any signs of aging and should continue to be an excellent five-category contributor as long as he can stay healthy. |

Mon Apr 15 | 00:10 | Tommy Pham Likely Joining White Sox | Tommy Pham | DH | Cardinals | Free Agent |
Free agent outfielder Tommy Pham is expected to sign with the Chicago White Sox. Pham will reportedly sign a Minor League deal with the team but is likely to get a call to the majors in short order. The 36-year-old put up solid numbers last year, with a .256/.328/.446 triple-slash line to go with 16 homers and 22 steals in 481 plate appearances. He should be able to carve out a full-time role with the lowly White Sox, and with a good chunk of playing time, Pham could provide another 15-homer, 20-steal season. He is worthy of a speculative add in deeper leagues, but can probably be left on waivers for now in standard-size leagues. |

Sun Apr 14 | 16:22 | Gerrit Cole Plays Catch For Second Time | Gerrit Cole | SP | Pirates | Lazar's Team |
New York Yankees starter Gerrit Cole (elbow) played catch on Thursday, according to MLB.com. It was the second time the star right-hander has played catch since going on the 60-day injured list. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted that session went well, but he did not mention when Cole will throw again. The 33-year-old is not eligible for activation until late May, though there is no guarantee he will be ready to return by then. Cole still deserves to be stashed in all formats until further notice, but it is safe to assume the Yankees will take things slow with their ace. |

Sun Apr 14 | 16:05 | Salvador Perez Exits Early On Sunday | Salvador Perez | C | Royals | Who's on First |
Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez left Sunday's game early after a collision at home plate with Starling Marte. Freddy Fermin entered the game for Perez, who walked off the field with a noticeable limp. It is too early to determine the severity of Perez's injury but hopefully it is nothing long term. Fermin would be the likely replacement if the 33-year-old is forced to miss time. Fermin had modest success at the plate in 2022, but he would only have true value in two-catcher leagues or AL Only formats. |
