The New York Mets agreed with relief pitcher David Robertson on a one-year, $10 million deal on Thursday, according to a source familiar with the contract. The Met got significantly better on Thursday evening, also re-signing center fielder Brandon Nimmo to a monster eight-year, $162 million deal. The 2022 season with the Philadelphia Phillies was his first full year since having Tommy John surgery in 2021. The 37-year-old veteran reliever with 157 career saves had a combined 2.40 ERA (3.58 FIP), a 1.16 WHIP, 20 saves and 81 strikeouts in 63 2/3 innings for the Phillies and Chicago Cubs. Edwin Diaz is cemented in the Mets' closer role, but Robertson will be a strong setup option with plenty of high-leverage experience. He will have plenty of value in holds leagues.

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed free-agent outfielder Jason Heyward to a minor-league deal on Thursday. The Chicago Cubs granted Heyward his unconditional release in November, and now he'll move his talents to LA. The 33-year-old came up with the Atlanta Braves in 2010 as one of the top outfielder prospects in the game. He was an All-Star in his rookie year and spent his first five seasons in Atlanta. After a year in St. Louis, Heyward, signed an eight-year, $184 million deal with the Cubs, but he was mostly a disappointment in his seven years with the club, hitting .245/.323/.377 with 62 homers, 289 RBI, 335 runs scored and 32 stolen bases in 744 games. In the last two seasons, he's been way worse, slashing .211/.280/.326.

The San Diego Padres agreed to an 11-year, $280 million deal with free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts on Wednesday night. It comes after Trea Turner scored an 11-year, $300 million deal from the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Bogaerts has been an All-Star in three of the last four seasons and was extremely productive yet again in 2022 for the Boston Red Sox, slashing .307/.377/.456 with an .833 OPS, 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs scored and eight stolen bases in 150 games. The power drop from 23 to 15 homers has to be a bit concerning, though, as he enters his 30s. He'll have plenty of chances to drive in and score runs in a loaded Padres lineup, however. The addition of Bogaerts officially means the Padres are prepared to move star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. to the outfield.

Six teams still need a shortstop and are all talking to free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts at the Winter Meetings in San Diego this week. The Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs are among them. Bogaerts opted out of the final three years of his deal with Boston, but they've had some momentum in trying to re-sign him on a day in which they also added veteran closer Kenley Jansen and Japanese outfielder Masataka Yoshida. Keeping the 30-year-old All-Star shortstop would be a huge win for the Red Sox after the division-rival New York Yankees re-signed Aaron Judge to a nine-year, $360 million mega deal on Wednesday morning. Bogaerts was impressive again in 2022 and remains one of the best all-around shortstops in baseball after hitting .307 with 15 home runs, 73 RBI, 84 runs and eight steals in 150 games.

Free-agent left-hander Cole Hamels, who is still only 38 years old, wants to pitch in 2023, according to his long-time agent John Boggs. Hamels hasn't pitched since the shortened 2020 season, when he made just one start for the Atlanta Braves and allowed three earned runs in 3 1/3 innings. The four-time All-Star southpaw underwent shoulder surgery in November of 2021, but it sounds as though he's healthy and trying to take another crack at it. Hamels will have to prove that he's healthy before any team will give him a chance on what will likely be a minor-league deal with plenty of incentives. In 15 big-league seasons (10 with the Phillies), Hamels has a 3.43 ERA (3.68 FIP), a 1.18 WHIP and a 23 percent strikeout rate in 2,698 regular season innings.

According to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Wednesday morning, the Seattle Mariners have reportedly signed relief pitcher Casey Sadler to a minor-league deal. The 32-year-old most recently pitched during the 2021 season, during which he logged a 0.67 ERA and a 2.48 FIP in 40.1 innings in a bullpen role for the Mariners. He also struck out 37 batters compared to just 10 walks during the 2021 season and logged 15 holds in his 42 appearances. The veteran didn't pitch in the Majors last season due to shoulder surgery, but he'll provide the American League West club with some additional bullpen depth heading into the 2023 campaign.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are reportedly interested in free-agent catcher Tucker Barnhart, per a tweet from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Jason Mackey on Wednesday morning. Mackey tweeted: "Per sources: Pirates have expressed interest in catcher Tucker Barnhart. Two-time Gold Glove winner has spent the bulk of his career with the Reds. Coming off down year with Detroit. Looking for bounce-back. Excellent fit." The veteran catcher previously appeared in 94 games for the Detroit Tigers in 2022, hitting .221 with a .287 on-base percentage and a home run in 308 plate appearances. As of right now, the only catching option on Pittsburgh's 40-man roster is Endy Rodriguez.

According to a tweet from The New York Post's Jon Heyman on Wednesday morning, the Boston Red Sox are reportedly "in heavy discussions with" free-agent shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Heyman tweeted the following: "Red Sox are in heavy discussions with star shortstop Xander Bogaerts." Bogaerts hit .307 in 631 plate appearances for the Red Sox last season, adding a .377 on-base percentage, 15 home runs, and eight stolen bases in the process. Boston's current shortstop options on the team's 40-man roster include Trevor Story, who mostly played second base last season, Jeter Downs, Hoy Park, and Christian Arroyo.

The Boston Red Sox and closer Kenley Jansen agreed to a two-year, $32 million deal on Wednesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. Jansen is no longer the closer that made three straight All-Star teams with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016-18, but he'll be a much-needed boost to a Red Sox bullpen that was pretty bad in 2022. The 35-year-old right-handed reliever was solid in his only season as the Atlanta Braves closer in 2022, going 5-2 with a 3.38 ERA (3.21 FIP), a league-high 41 saves (48 chances), a 1.05 WHIP and 85 strikeouts in 64 relief innings. Jansen finished a league-high 54 games and will move to Boston as their primary closing option to begin the 2023 campaign. He has 391 career saves and should add stability to the back end of Boston's 'pen.

The New York Mets and left-hander Jose Quintana agreed to a two-year, $26 million deal on Wednesday, according to sources. Jacob deGrom left the Mets for a five-year deal with the Texas Rangers, but New York has moved quickly to replace him with American League Cy Young winner Justin Verlander and Quintana. The 33-year-old southpaw turned heads in 2022, recording a 2.93 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP, 137 strikeouts and 47 walks in 165 2/3 innings over 32 starts with the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals. He was even better in 12 starts with St. Louis with a 2.01 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. Quintana isn't much of a strikeout artist for fantasy purposes, but he should be serviceable as the team's No. 3 starter behind Verlander and Max Scherzer.

Free-agent left-hander David Price will not pitch in 2023, according to his long-time agent Bo McKinnis. Price isn't using the retirement word, but if this ends up being it for him, he'll finish his major-league career with a 157-82 record and a 3.32 ERA over 2,143 2/3 innings in 14 seasons. The five-time All-Star and 2013 American League Cy Young winner mostly worked as a reliever the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, posting a 3.47 ERA (4.11 FIP), a 1.33 WHIP, three saves and 95 strikeouts in 114 innings pitched over 79 appearances (11 starts). The 37-year-old was better in 2022 with a 2.45 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 37 K's in 40 1/3 relief innings. If Price does return in 2024, it'll likely be in a limited relief role.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are among the teams talking to long-time Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner. The Miami Marlins have also reached out. Turner became a free agent when the Dodgers declined his 2023 option for $16 million. The 38-year-old looked more his age last year in his ninth year in LA. He still hit a respectable .278 with a .350 on-base percentage in 532 plate appearances (128 games), but his power was down considerably with only 13 home runs after clubbing 27 in 2021. Turner drove in 81 runs and scored 61 runs for the Blue. The two-time All-Star is transitioning to more of a designated-hitter role at the tail end of his career, but he could return to the Dodgers for another year. The Marlins are desperately in need of more hitting.

The Philadelphia Phillies signed free-agent right-hander Taijuan Walker to a four-year deal worth $72 million on Tuesday, according to sources. Walker will join the division-rival Phillies after spending the last two seasons with the New York Mets. He was an All-Star for the first time in his career in 2021 but he actually pitched better in 2022, going 12-5 with a 3.49 ERA (3.65 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP, 132 strikeouts and 45 walks in 157 1/3 innings pitched over 29 starts. The 30-year-old should become the Phillies' No. 3 starter heading into the 2023 season behind Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola. Walker's fantasy value won't change all that much heading into next year while staying in the National League East division.

The Texas Rangers signed free-agent left-hander Andrew Heaney to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday, according to a source. Heaney already had a few three-year offers on the open market, but he was pushing for a fourth year. It's unclear if he got that with Texas after throwing 75 innings for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022. The Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants were also interested in the 31-year-old southpaw. Starting pitching has been a priority for Texas this offseason, as they've already traded for Jake Odorizzi and signed Jacob deGrom to a five-year deal. Injuries limited Heaney to just 16 outings (14 starts) in 2022 for the Dodgers, but he had a strong 3.10 ERA (3.75 FIP), a 1.09 WHIP and 110 strikeouts in 72 2/3 innings when he was on the mound.

Veteran free-agent corner infielder Evan Longoria is talking to five teams on the free-agent market and is looking to play for a contender. Longoria became a free agent after the 2022 season when the San Francisco Giants declined his $13 million club option for 2023. The 37-year-old is no longer in his prime and played fewer than 90 games in each of the last two years in San Francisco. He mostly dealt with a thumb injury this season and finished with a .244/.315/.451 slash line with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs scored in 298 plate appearances and 89 games. The Giants could bring him back on a cheaper deal. At this point in his career, Longoria is better suited to be a full-time designated hitter.

Agent Scott Boras said that the Boston Red Sox remain engaged on trying to re-sign shortstop Xander Bogaerts. Nobody is really expecting the Red Sox and Bogaerts to reunite, especially after the Philadelphia Phillies gave Trea Turner an 11-year, $300 million deal on Monday at the first day of the Winter Meetings in San Diego. Bogaerts has a very robust market as one of the top shortstops available on the open market, and teams like the Chicago Cubs, Arizona Diamondbacks, Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres have been on his trail. As expected, the 30-year-old declined his $20 million option for the 2023 season. If Boston doesn't somehow bring Bogaerts back, Trevor Story is expected to move to the 6 next year.

The Oakland Athletics and Jace Peterson are reportedly "in agreement on a two-year contract, pending physical," per a tweet from FanSided's Robert Murray on Tuesday. Murray tweeted: "Free-agent utilityman Jace Peterson and the Oakland A's are in agreement on a two-year contract, pending physical, according to source familiar with the deal." Peterson appeared in 113 games for the Milwaukee Brewers last season, seeing time at a multitude of positions, including third base, right field, first base, left field and second base. He hit .236 in 328 plate appearances while adding a .316 on-base percentage, eight home runs and 12 stolen bases in the process.

The New York Yankees have reportedly signed relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle to a two-year deal, according to a tweet from The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal on Tuesday. Rosenthal tweeted the following: "Free-agent reliever Tommy Kahnle heading back to Yankees on two-year deal, source tells @TheAthletic." Kahnle appeared in 129 games for the American League East club from 2017 through 2020 after being acquired in mid-July during the 2017 season from the Chicago White Sox. He most recently pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022, logging 12.2 innings in 13 appearances and pitching to a 2.84 ERA, a 4.38 FIP, 14 strikeouts, and three walks. He also logged a save and a hold. The veteran will give the Yankees another late-inning bullpen option heading into the 2023 season.

The New York Mets re-signed right-handed relievers Tommy Hunter and Sean Reid-Foley to minor-league deals on Tuesday. Both pitchers have been with the team the last two seasons, but they both missed significant time due to injuries. Hunter, 36, threw only 22 1/3 innings in 2022, but he had a solid 2.42 ERA (4.28 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 18 relief appearances. Reid-Foley, 27, allowed six earned runs on seven hits while walking seven and striking out eight in just 10 relief innings for the Mets last season. In five big-league seasons, he has a 4.66 ERA (4.93 FIP), a 1.56 WHIP and 110 strikeouts in 102 1/3 innings pitched. Hunter and Reid-Foley will give the Mets relief depth yet again in 2023.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw agreed to a one-year, $20 million dollar contract on Monday, per the team's Twitter account. The future Hall of Famer has spent all 15 seasons of his career with the Dodgers and will stick with them for his age-35 season. Kershaw was sharp as always when he did pitch in 2022, going 12-3 with a 2.28 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 27.8% strikeout rate in 22 starts and 126 1/3 innings pitched. However, injuries have prevented him from making at least 30 starts since 2015, which has put a relative damper on his overall fantasy value. Kershaw remains one of baseball's top starters on a start-by-start basis, which means he still offers high fantasy value even if he only makes 20-25 starts.
