LF Scott Van Slyke (sore back) left Saturday's game against the Giants in the third inning complaining of back discomfort. Van Slyke was grazed in the left elbow by a LHP Madison Bumgarner pitch in the third inning, but manager Dave Roberts said afterward that the injury had nothing to do with that at-bat. Van Slyke had felt the pain earlier in the game but wanted to bat one more time before coming out. X-rays taken during the game were negative, and the injury is not considered to be serious.

Wed Oct 7 201512:24Van Slyke (wrist) not expected to be on NLDS roster
Van Slyke (wrist) is not expected to be on the NLDS roster, Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles reports.
The wrist did not respond well to batting practice Tuesday, leading manager Don Mattingly to say Van Slyke is "not where he needs to be physically." With the 29-year-old all but ruled out for the NLDS, the door is open for Yasiel Puig to possibly slot in as a right-handed bench/platoon bat despite missing most of the final five weeks of the regular season.

Van Slyke (wrist) struggled while practicing in the batting cage Tuesday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.
Van Slyke has been suffering from a case of inflammation in his wrist dating back to Sept. 15. Manager Don Mattingly was not optimistic about his outfielder's health Tuesday saying, "(He's) not where he needs to be physically". It's unclear what his status will be for the playoffs, however more information should be available prior to Thursday.
Sat Oct 3 201518:42Van Slyke dealing with inflammation in wrist
Van Slyke, who is not in Saturday's lineup, is dealing with inflammation in his wrist, SB Nation's Eric Stephen reports.
The final game of the regular season is Sunday, so owners will be hard pressed to extract anymore value from him in 2015. Justin Ruggiano and Yasiel Puig are starting in the outfield corners Saturday.
Fri Sep 25 201516:49Van Slyke not in lineup Friday against Rockies
Van Slyke is not in the lineup Friday against the Rockies, Dylan Hernandez of the LA Times reports.
It will be Van Slyke's second day off in the past five games after returning from a minor hand injury. Carl Crawford will draw the start in left field and bat sixth in his stead.
Mon Sep 21 201518:22Van Slyke won't start in Monday's game against Arizona
Van Slyke won't start in Monday's game against Arizona.
Van Slyke is recently coming off a minor hand injury but that doesn't seem to be the cause of his absence with Carl Crawford remaining in the lineup while Adrian Gonzalez (back) returns, forcing Van Slyke to the bench despite playing Sunday.
Sun Sep 20 201515:21Van Slyke (hand) will return to lineup Sunday against Pirates
Van Slyke (hand) will return to the lineup Sunday against the Pirates, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Van Slyke has been sidelined for each of the past three games because of the issue, but he'll make his return to the lineup at first base Sunday. He'll bat sixth in his return.
Sat Sep 19 201517:46Van Slyke (hand) remains out of lineup Saturday against Pirates
Van Slyke (hand) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Pirates, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
He will miss out on yet another start against a left-hander as a result of the hand injury, which first came to light Tuesday. Van Slyke clearly has value as a platoon/bench bat, likely enough to earn him a spot on the team's postseason roster, but he'll need to get healthy first.
Fri Sep 18 201518:07Van Slyke (hand) remains out of lineup Friday against Pirates
Van Slyke (hand) remains out of the lineup Friday against the Pirates.
The hand injury came at a pretty poor time for Van Slyke, as the Dodgers have faced three straight lefties (including Friday) and Van Slyke probably would have been in there for all three games if healthy. Manager Don Mattingly will go with an outfield consisting of Justin Ruggiano, Joc Pederson and Chris Heisey against Jeff Locke on Friday.
Wed Sep 16 201518:43Van Slyke (hand) remains out of lineup Wednesday against Rockies
Van Slyke (hand) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies.
There's little doubt Van Slyke would be in there if he were able to properly grip and swing a bat, as the Dodgers are coming off a 16-inning game and facing another lefty in Jorge De La Rosa. However, with Van Slyke still ailing, Justin Ruggiano will make another start in left field. The Dodgers face yet another southpaw (Jeff Locke) in Friday's series opener against Pittsburgh.

Tue Sep 15 201519:10Van Slyke dealing with sore hand
Van Slyke is dealing with a sore hand, Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports.
This explains why Van Slyke was left out of the lineup Tuesday against left-hander Chris Rusin. The Dodgers face another lefty on Wednesday (Jorge De La Rosa), but it's uncertain whether Van Slyke will be able to give it a go. Justin Ruggiano is starting in left field and leading off Tuesday.
Sat Aug 29 201518:18Van Slyke will start against Cubs on Saturday
Van Slyke will start against the Cubs on Saturday.
He will replace Andre Ethier with Cubs lefty Jon Lester set to take the mound. After a tremendous season against lefties last year, Van Slyke has struggled to hit with any sort of power against southpaws in 2015, knocking out just three home runs and posting a .444 slugging percentage in 63 at-bats.
Thu Aug 27 201505:27Van Slyke 2-4 with first homer since June 26 in Wednesday's win ...
Van Slyke went 2-for-4 with his first homer since June 26 in Wednesday's win over the Reds.
The long ball was a long time coming for Van Slyke, who hasn't lived up to his billing as a lefty killer this year. After posting a .315/.415/.630 line against lefties last year, he's seen those rates fall precipitously to .254/.407/.444 -- still strong on-base skills, but a large loss in power and average. Combine that with inconsistent playing time and you've got a player on the fringes of fantasy relevance.
Tue Aug 18 201518:26Van Slyke (illness) back in lineup Tuesday against A's
Van Slyke (illness) is back in the lineup Tuesday against the A's.
He will step back in Tuesday face lefty Felix Doubront after missing time over the weekend due to illness, pushing Andre Ethier to the bench. Van Slyke, who plays primarily against lefties, is batting .264/.420/.434 against southpaws this season, but he hasn't left the yard in close to two months.
Sat Aug 15 201518:10Van Slyke dealing with illness and not in lineup Saturday
Van Slyke is dealing with an illness and is not in the lineup Saturday, the Los Angeles Times' Dylan Hernandez reports.
Van Slyke typically only gets two or three starts per week even when he's healthy, so while he can be useful in daily leagues, it's hard to rely on him for much in most full-season formats. With a righy on the mound for the Reds on Sunday it seems unlikely that Van Slyke will return to the lineup until at least Tuesday in Oakland.
Fri Jul 31 201518:34Van Slyke (neck) in lineup for Friday's game against Angels
Van Slyke (neck) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels.
The 29-year-old will man left field and bat cleanup against lefty Hector Santiago after battling some neck stiffness earlier in the week. Van Slyke continues to live up to his reputation as a lefty masher, posting a .282/.462/.487 batting line in 52 plate appearances against southpaws so far this season.
Tue Jul 28 201518:16Van Slyke (neck) not in lineup for Tuesday's game against A's
Van Slyke (neck) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the A's.
The Dodgers are facing a right-hander in Sonny Gray and Van Slyke typically starts only against lefties, so it's uncertain whether his absence is actually related to the neck issue. Regardless, Van Slyke should be considered day-to-day until he returns to the field.
