Tue Jul 19 201122:20Report: Reds interested in Chone Figgins
CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Reds are interested in acquiring a leadoff hitter, with Chone Figgins and Coco Crisp on their radar.
Cincy have tried mostly Drew Stubbs and Chris Heisey in the leadoff spot this season, but Stubbs' OBP is just .331 and Heisey's is even worse at .305. Of course, Figgins and his anemic .230 mark entering Tuesday wouldn't seem like much of an upgrade in that regard. There's also the fact that Figgins is owed at least $17 million and possibly $26 million more on his contract, though obviously the Mariners would have to eat a sizable portion of that. Crisp is also getting on base only at a .312 clip.

Fri Jul 8 201110:21Chone Figgins still struggling
Chone Figgins is the owner of a .476 OPS through his first 283 plate appearances this season.
If you've still been waiting for him to turn things around, you can probably stop now. Since arriving in Seattle via a four-year, $36 million deal in December of 2009, Figgins has hit .236 while posting a .308 on-base percentage. His only real hope for a fantasy resurgence would be a move out of cavernous Safeco Field, but that would require the Mariners eating an extremely large chunk of his considerable remaining salary.

Sat Jun 25 201100:15Figgins benched for second straight day
Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Friday that Chone Figgins will continue to lose playing time to Adam Kennedy at third base moving forward.
Kennedy got the start over Figgins for the second straight day Friday. "Adam is going to get more time at third, as we've seen," said Wedge. "Figgy just has to hang tough and keep doing the work when he's not playing. When he does get in there to play, it's an opportunity for him to move forward." Figgins is batting just .190 with a .238 on-base percentage and .492 OPS over 267 plate appearances this season. He's still guaranteed $9 million in 2012 and $8 million in 2013.

Tue Jun 21 201112:28Figgins still struggling in June
Chone Figgins is hitting only .204/.278/.265 this month.
That slash line is actually slightly better than his season line, but it's all still awful. Figgins is not making good contact, not getting on base, and not doing great things defensively. With only eight stolen bases in 14 attempts, he is not an option in mixed fantasy leagues.

Thu Jun 2 201117:30Chone Figgins back in M's lineup Thursday
Chone Figgins is back in the Mariners' starting lineup Thursday night against the Rays.
Figgins, batting just .190/.232/.256 in 48 games this season, was given a few days off this week to clear his head. He remains a questionable fantasy option.

Tue May 31 201119:44Chone Figgins to sit out a few days
Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Chone Figgins will get "a couple days" off in order to clear his head.
It's probably a wise move. Figgins has a paltry .190/.232/.256 batting line on the season after another hitless game Monday. Luis Rodriguez is manning the hot corner Tuesday and should be there the next couple days.

Chone Figgins went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts after being dropped to the eighth spot in Seattle's lineup on Monday.

Sat May 28 201119:02Figgins back in the lineup on Saturday
Chone Figgins is back in the Mariners lineup on Saturday after getting Friday off to clear his head.
He's starting at his usual third base, and batting second. Figgins is hitting just .202 this season, and reaching base at an absurdly poor clip of .242. Worst of all for a player who made his name with speed, he is just 7-for-12 on stolen-base attempts. Seeing as Figgins also saw a sharp decline in his production last year, he's definitely going through something more than just a slow start.

Thu May 5 201119:22Figgins scratched from Thursday's lineup
Chone Figgins has been scratched from the Mariners' lineup Thursday against the Rangers.
Figgins, who can usually be relied on to at least get on base at a decent clip, is sporting a brutal .260 on-base percentage through 29 games this season. The M's are likely hoping that a day of rest will help.

Sun May 1 201116:45Figgins has another awful game
Chone Figgins went 0-for-4 with a caught stealing in Seattle's loss to the Red Sox on Sunday.
Figgins is now just 3-for-7 on stolen-attempts this season, a disaster for a speed specialist that is hitting only .206. Figgins seemed like a great bounce-back candidate after having the worst year of his career in 2010, but it might just be that he's washed up, and not in some kind of protracted funk that he's going to snap out of.

The Mariners are optimistic that Chone Figgins (thumb) will be back in the lineup Thursday.
They were optimistic he'd be able to play Wednesday, too, but that didn't happen. It appears he's much better, though. "He's closer," Wedge said. "He got a lot better (Tuesday) with all the treatment. I'm pretty optimistic that we'll have him back in there (Thursday)."

Chone Figgins (thumb) is out of the Mariners' lineup again Wednesday.
Mariners manager Eric Wedge hoped to have Figgins back in the lineup, but his left thumb apparently isn't 100 percent quite yet. Luis Rodriguez gets another start at the hot corner.

Mon Apr 11 201123:46Figgins leaves game with thumb contusion
Chone Figgins left Monday's game against the Blue Jays after three innings with a left thumb contusion.
Figgins experienced some swelling in his thumb after being hit by a liner off the bat of Jayson Nix in the second inning. He singled and walked in his two placed appearances before being replaced by Luis Rodriguez to begin the fourth inning. Consider him day-to-day right now.

Wed Apr 6 201116:55Mariners' Figgins goes hitless again
Chone Figgins went hitless in a fourth straight game Wednesday and is just 3-for-25 for the season.
Figgins, who led the AL in free passes with 101 in 2009, has yet to work a single walk this season. Considering they already have four No. 8 or No. 9 hitters at the bottom of the lineup, the Mariners will probably keep batting him second for now. However, he's been a liability thus far.

Sat Apr 2 201101:17Figgins hits a rare homer in win over A's
Chone Figgins went 2-for-5 with a go-ahead homer and a stolen base in Friday's win over the Athletics.
Figgins hit just one home run last season and it didn't come until late July. Well, he got his first one out of the way early this season, launching a go-ahead shot off Craig Breslow in the top of the sixth inning. The Mariners tacked on three more in the seventh inning -- thanks to some sloppy defense from the A's -- and King Felix took it from there. We feel that Figgins' upside is limited by a pretty poor supporting cast, but he's still capable of getting on base enough to steal 30-plus bags.
