Giants purchased the contract of INF Joaquin Arias from Triple-A Fresno.
The Giants will announce a corresponding roster move involving Aubrey Huff prior to Wednesday's game. Arias was hitting .400 (28-for-70) with two homers and 17 RBI with Triple-A Fresno and will function as a backup infielder. He isn't worth adding in fantasy leagues.

This indicates that Aubrey Huff could be placed on the seven-day personal leave list while he attends to a family matter in Florida. The 26-year-old infielder was claimed off waivers from the Mets in November and batted .258/.280/.320 in 128 at-bats last season. He doesn't offer much offensively, but could latch on somewhere else as a backup infielder.

Royals claimed INF Joaquin Arias off waivers from the Mets.
Sadly, the Mets now have nothing to show for the Jeff Francoeur trade. Arias, 26, batted .258/.280/.320 with six doubles, one triple and 13 RBI in 128 at-bats between the Rangers and Mets this season. He doesn't bring much to the table outside of the ability play multiple positions in the infield.

Fri May 14 201023:00Arias (back) to be activated from DL on Sat
Joaquin Arias (back) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.
Arias was batting .321/.333/.377 before going on the disabled list with a lower back strain on April 30. He's been getting work at the corner infield positions in the minor leagues, so with the demotion of Ryan Garko, he'll function as the primary backup to rookie first baseman Justin Smoak. Craig Gentry is expected to be sent to the minor leagues in a corresponding roster move.

Tue May 11 201019:17Arias getting work at corner infield spots
Joaquin Arias (back) is getting work at the corner infield positions during a minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco.
Arias played 16 games at second base before going on the disabled list with a lower back strain on April 30, but this signals that the team wouldn't mind keeping him around as a utility player or backup first baseman. For what it's worth, Ryan Garko is just 2-for-27 (.074) to begin the year, so Arias could give the Rangers another right-handed alternative at first base.

The injury saves the Rangers from making a difficult roster decision. With Arias on the DL, Andres Blanco will function as the club's main reserve infielder.
Sat Apr 10 201013:51Arias gets second start at second base
Joaquin Arias starts at second base again Saturday after going 2-for-4 against the Mariners Friday night.
Arias starts in place of Andres Blanco, who didn't exactly have a lock on the job anyway. Irrespective, with Ian Kinsler on the comeback trail, neither of these two is worth a waiver pick.
