Christian Friedrich was knocked around a bit in Friday's loss to the Giants, surrendering four runs on five hits in just three innings of work.
The young left-hander has battled a variety of back and neck injuries this spring, and has really struggled through his first two starts. Most of the damage in this one came via the long ball, with Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt taking him deep. This poor outing may have closed the door on his chances to crack the Opening Day rotation.

According to Troy Renck of the Denver Post, the Rays have "some interest" in left-hander Christian Friedrich.
It's unclear if the Rockies would consider trading Friedrich straight-up for Jeff Niemann, but it doesn't sound like a deal between the sides is imminent. Friedrich is coming off a disappointing rookie year and hasn't pitched in spring training due to injuries. Niemann is making an affordable $3 million this season and is cost-controlled through 2014.

The 25-year-old lefty is coming off an extremely disappointing rookie season where he posted a 6.17 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 74/30 K/BB ratio over 84 2/3 innings. Though he's already behind the other pitchers in camp, Friedrich hopes to put himself into consideration for the Opening Day roster.

Christian Friedrich was lit up for seven runs in 4 1/3 innings Friday in a home loss to the Reds.
Friedrich gave up three homers and saw his ERA jump to 6.17. He's now allowed 10 homers in 39 1/3 innings at Coors Field this season, compared to four in 45 1/3 innings on the road. It should be no surprise that his home ERA is 8.92, while he's at 3.77 on the road.

Christian Friedrich allowed two runs on three hits and three walks in five innings of Sunday's loss to the Padres.
Friedrich struck out two in a no-decision. He was pulled after throwing 82 pitches, just 47 of which went for strikes. Until Friedrich masters Coors Field or the Rockies take their starters off strict pitch counts, he is off the fantasy radar in all but the deepest of NL-only leagues.

Christian Friedrich's rough rookie season continued against the Pirates on Tuesday as he surrendered five runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings.
He punched out two and walked three. Friedrich has won just one game since June 4, which came in a terrific outing against the Phillies in his last outing. Friedrich isn't worth owning in any fantasy formats at this point and may best be served getting some more seasoning at Triple-A. He is 5-7 with a 5.85 ERA on the year.

Christian Friedrich pitched a terrific game against the Phillies on Friday, allowing one run on five hits over six strong frames.
Friedrich punched out seven while walking one in the game. It was a much needed victory for Friedrich, who hadn't won since June 4. The only run charged against him, came on an RBI double from Jimmy Rollins in the third inning. Friedrich will look to carry over the momentum from this strong outing when he squares off against the Pirates at home on Wednesday.
