Friedrich gave up two runs (one earned) over two innings and was dealt his third loss of the season in Tuesday's 10-4 defeat to the Mariners.
With hot shot prospect Jon Gray being held to an abbreviated pitch count in his MLB debut, Friedrich came on in during the fifth inning of a tie game. The lefty would surrender a two-run single to give the Mariners the lead for good, but was able to go an extra inning before his departure. With a 4.73 ERA on the season and little more than a low-leverage role out of the Rockies' bullpen, Friedrich isn't worth monitoring for fantasy purposes at this point.

Friedrich pitched a scoreless eighth inning in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Friedrich found himself in some trouble when he put runners on first and second with only one out, but he managed to induce an inning-ending double play to alleviate the threat. The left-hander has become one of the Rockies' more trusted setup men this season, though his 4.46 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 34.1 innings hasn't equated to much fantasy value, even in NL-only leagues.

Friedrich has given up three runs over 11 innings (2.45 ERA) across 10 appearances thus far in May.
Friedrich struggled in the early going, but he's since emerged as one of the Rockies' more reliable relievers. While the former first-round pick never emerged as the frontline starter the Rockies were hoping for, Friedrich should have some staying power in the big leagues as a weapon versus same-handed hitters. Lefties are slashing just .212/.250/.242 against him this season, producing only one extra-base hit in 33 at-bats.

Friedrich was tacked for three runs on four hits over 2.2 innings in Monday's 14-3 loss to the Padres.
After opening the season with 5.1 scoreless innings, Friedrich has yielded runs in his last two relief appearances to bring his ERA up to 4.00. However, the impressive control (7:1 K:BB ratio) and ability to keep the ball on the ground (53.3 GB%) he's shown thus far bodes well for his chances for success going forward. He shouldn't be at risk for a demotion to the minors just yet.
Thu Apr 2 201518:32Friedrich has won Opening Day bullpen job with Rockies
Friedrich has won an Opening Day bullpen job with the Rockies, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Friedrich has struggled as a starter in the upper levels of the minors and with the Rockies the past three seasons, but appeared to find a niche as a reliever after making the conversion in the second half of 2014. In his 11 relief innings with the Rockies, Friedrich held opponents to a .105/.175/.167 batting line, and continued those successes during spring training. He's allowed just one run over nine Cactus League innings, yielding eight hits and two walks.

Friedrich (ankle) recorded the final two outs of the eighth inning in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
The lefty missed a week after twisting his ankle Sept. 8, but he returned Monday and tossed a scoreless two-thirds of an inning, thus extending his scoreless appearances streak to seven. He should work exclusively as a reliever the rest of the way, after posting a 9.45 ERA and 2.17 WHIP in his three starts for the big club.
Sun Sep 7 201409:45Friedrich received X-rays on ankle Saturday
Friedrich received X-rays on his ankle Saturday, which revealed no structural damage, the Associated Press reports.
Friedrich twisted his ankle during an appearance Tuesday vs. the Padres and hasn't pitched since. He'll presumably need a few more days to recover, and with the Rockies bullpen well-stocked with arms for the season's final month, the team should be able to manage without him for the time being.

Friedrich took the loss in Monday's resumption of a game suspended May 22 against the Giants, giving up the go-ahead run in his 1.2 innings out of the bullpen.
Friedrich probably deserved a better fate, as he gave up a lone single to start the top of the eighth and recorded back-to-back outs, before he was relieved by Adam Ottavino, who failed to strand the baserunner. Despite taking the loss it qualifies as a positive outing for Friedrich, who is trying to salvage his sinking career by trying to find success in relief.
Wed Aug 27 201417:25Friedrich recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday
Friedrich was recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday.
Friedrich converted to a long relief role at Triple-A after he experienced horrendous results as a starter with both Colorado Springs and the Rockies earlier this season. His numbers weren't dramatically better while working out the bullpen, but the big club will probably only turn to him in games where the outcome is already essentially decided.

Rockies optioned LHP Christian Friedrich to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Friedrich put up a hideous 9.45 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and 14/8 K/BB ratio in 13 1/3 innings during his time in the rotation. It's not clear who will replace him in the rotation, but the recently acquired Jair Jurrjens is an option.

Tue Jul 1 201422:34Friedrich allows 5+ runs for 3rd straight GS
Christian Friedrich's struggles continued, as he allowed five runs over 3 1/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals.
Friedrich has made three starts this season, and allowed five-plus runs in all three of them (all losses, of course). On Tuesday, the lefty struggled with command, allowing five hits but walking four while striking out three. Friedrich carries an abysmal 9.45 ERA with a 2.18 WHIP, and a 14/8 K/BB ratio in 13 1/3 innings. He'll go up against the Dodgers at home in his next start.

Fri Jun 27 201400:22Friedrich hit hard again, takes second loss
Christian Friedrich fell to 0-2, allowing five runs over four innings in Thursday's loss to the Brewers.
Friedrich has had an ugly start to his major league career, having now allowed 14 runs (nine earned) over his first ten innings. On Thursday, the lefty allowed nine hits -- including two first-inning home runs to Rickie Weeks and Aramis Ramirez -- while walking one and striking out eight. He'll look for improved results in his next start against the Nationals on the road.

He's taking the rotation spot of the demoted Juan Nicasio. Friedrich gave up seven runs and 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings in his last start at Triple-A Colorado Springs and holds a 7.89 ERA overall on the year. He can be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Fri Mar 14 201419:11Friedrich surrenders three in loss to Giants
Christian Friedrich struggled in a losing effort against the Giants on Friday, surrendering three runs on six hits over his 3 2/3 innings of work.
The 26-year-old left-hander walked one and struck out two in the ballgame. He was victimized by Hunter Pence who knocked a pair of solo homers over the boards. He's in camp competing for one of the final spots in the Rockies rotation, but is far too inconsistent to trust in mixed leagues.

Rockies optioned LHP Christian Friedrich to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Friedrich struck out six over 3 2/3 innings this spring, but he also allowed seven hits, walked three and gave up three runs. After being limited to just 14 2/3 innings in the minors last season due to back issues, he needs to log some more Triple-A time.

Mon Mar 3 201422:58Christian Friedrich K's three over 1 2/3
Christian Friedrich allowed one run and struck out three over 1 2/3 innings against the Diamondbacks Monday.
Friedrich gave up three hits and two walks, but the three punchouts helped him allow just the one run. The left-hander was limited to just 14 2/3 innings in the minors last season due to back issues and is a long shot to crack the Opening Day roster.

Fri Feb 21 201410:01Christian Friedrich surprising in camp
Christian Friedrich has changed his foot placement on the pitching rubber in order to prevent him throwing across his body.
The thinking is that Friedrich will put less pressure on his chronically sore back this way. It's apparently worked, as Troy Renck of the Denver Post says Friedrich has been "among the Rockies' surprises in camp." The big left-hander was limited to just 14 2/3 innings in the minors last season due to back issues after making 16 starts for the Rockies in 2012. He'll likely open the year in the Triple-A rotation.

Sat Feb 8 201423:10Friedrich (back) throwing bullpen sessions
Christian Friedrich (back) has begun throwing bullpen sessions, per Troy Renck of the Denver Post.
Friedrich dealt with lower back inflammation that limited him to 14 2/3 innings in the minors last season. Renck said the left-hander has had to alter his mechanics to compensate for the issues. The 26-year-old made 16 starts for the Rockies in his rookie season in 2012 and, while the Rockies have a few starters vying for rotation spots, Friedrich should have a shot at breaking camp with the club this spring.
