Fri Feb 4 201119:15Gabe Gross inks minors deal with Mariners
Mariners signed OF Gabe Gross to a minor league contract.
Gross is coming off a terrible year in which he batted just .239/.290/.311 with one home run over 122 at-bats for the A's. He have an opportunity to earn a bench job but could also just wind up representing some depth at Triple-A.
Sat Oct 30 201015:55A's outright four to Triple-A
A's outrighted OF Gabe Gross, 1B Jeff Larish and RHPs Jon Meloan and Justin Souza.
Both Gross and Larish have elected free agency. Gross is coming off a terrible .239/.290/.311 year, while Larish did little in his brief time in the bigs in 2010. They'll be seeking to catch on somewhere with minor league deals.
Wed Sep 22 201018:15Athletics' Gross goes hitless in loss
Gabe Gross went 0-for-3 before being removed from Wednesday's game for a pinch-hitter.
It's pretty amazing that Gross has stuck in the majors all year long as poorly as he's played. He's batting .236/.281/.307 in 212 at-bats, so there's really no chance at all that he hangs on Oakland's 40-man roster this winter. Unless he wants to head to Japan, he'll have to settle for a minor league contract for 2011.
Tue Jul 6 201001:16Athetics' Gross goes hitless again
Gabe Gross went hitless in a third straight start Monday, dropping his average to .255.
And it's an ugly .255. In 2008, Gross hit .242/.333/.434 with 13 homers and 40 walks in 302 at-bats for the Rays. This year, he has just one homer and eight walks in 149 at-bats, giving him a pathetic .255/.291/.322 line. The A's have been giving him starts in place of the injured Conor Jackson, but he's looking like a candidate to be released.
Sat Apr 17 201002:49Athletics' Gross collects three singles
Gabe Gross singled in all three of his at-bats Friday against the Orioles.
Gross wasn't included in the starting lineup in any of Oakland's first seven games, but he's started three of the last five. He'll earn more playing time at Travis Buck's expense if he can get hot for a little while. He's 5-for-12 with three RBI so far.
