Andy LaRoche delivered a solo homer to plate the only run of the game as the Blue Jays edged Yankees split-squad Thursday.
LaRoche has two homers and a double in nine at-bats this spring. He's not really a candidate to make the Blue Jays unless injuries strike, but he'll get more chances to impress other teams with Brett Lawrie set to play in the WBC for Canada next month.

Blue Jays non-roster infielder Andy LaRoche homered and doubled Tuesday against the Twins.
The Jays are getting really nice results so far from infielders LaRoche, Lance Zawadzki and Ryan Goins, none of whom have any real chance of cracking the major league roster. LaRoche has to hope to impress some other teams this spring.

The deal includes an invite to spring training. LaRoche, 28, batted just .247 with no homers over 93 at-bats with the A's this past season and has a lousy .226/.305/.337 batting line in the big leagues. The former top prospect will have to have an outstanding spring in order to win a roster spot.

Sun Dec 18 201112:10Indians interested in Cameron, LaRoche
Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports that the Indians are interest in free agent infielder Andy LaRoche and free agent outfielder Mike Cameron.
Not surprisingly, they would only be willing to sign both players to a minor league deal. LaRoche, 28, batted only .247/.320/.333 with no homers over 93 at-bats for the A's this past season and didn't hit a whole lot at Triple-A, either. Cameron, who will turn 39 in January, hit just .203/.285/.359 with nine homers over 237 at-bats for the Red Sox and Marlins.

The A's gave LaRoche, 28, another shot in the big leagues this season, but he responded by hitting just .247/.320/.333 with no homers over 93 at-bats. He wasn't much better for Triple-A Sacramento, sporting a .254/.335/.376 line with four homers over 197 at-bats. At this point, the former top prospect will be lucky to earn a roster spot next spring as a utility player.

Thu May 26 201118:28Andy LaRoche knocks in three for A's
Andy LaRoche had a two-run double and an RBI groundout to knock in three of the A's four runs Thursday,
It should go without saying that it's a season high for LaRoche: he entered with just two RBI in 82 at-bats this year. Kevin Kouzmanoff has been just as bad, so LaRoche is getting more playing time at third base lately. Maybe he's starting to capitalize.

Thu May 5 201109:14LaRoche plays fourth straight game at third
Andy LaRoche made his fourth consecutive start at third base Wednesday.
"Andy's just playing well right now, so I'm keeping him out there," said Athletics manager Bob Geren. "I'll obviously get Kooz back in there. The last time he was in a little rut, I gave him a few days off, it worked, and he came back and did pretty well for a while." Kevin Kouzmanoff began the year as the starting third baseman, but is batting .208/.247/.338 over his first 85 plate appearances and has already committed six errors.

Fri Apr 15 201123:29LaRoche to get longer look at third base
Athletics manager Bob Geren said Friday that he might give Andy LaRoche an extended look at third base.
Kevin Kouzmanoff is struggling offensively and defensively right now, so Geren is open to alternatives. "Hey, we're trying to win games, and if a guy is contributing and helping us, I'll find a way to keep him in there, yeah," said Geren. "That's the same with anybody -- not just him, but in general. We're not swinging the bats all that well. So if somebody's swinging it, I've got to get him in there." LaRoche started at the hot corner for the second straight day Friday and is worth consideration in AL-only leagues.

Tue Apr 12 201117:11LaRoche starts at shortstop Tuesday
Andy LaRoche starts at shortstop for the second straight day Tuesday.
Interesting. Cliff Pennington is off to a dreadful start (4-for-25) while LaRoche has hit safely in his first four starts this season. We'd rather see LaRoche get a chance at third base, but this situation bears watching.
