Mon Apr 2916:05Heston Kjerstad Riding Pine Again On Monday
Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Heston Kjerstad is not in the starting lineup yet again on Monday as the team takes on the visiting New York Yankees at Camden Yards. This will be the fifth straight game that Kjerstad is not in the O's starting lineup after he started the first two contests following his promotion from Triple-A Norfolk. If this continues to be the case, don't be surprised if the Orioles send the 25-year-old left-handed hitter back to the minors so that he can play every day. The former second overall pick in 2020 out of Arkansas has gone hitless in his first five major-league at-bats with three strikeouts. It's been hard for manager Brandon Hyde to find Kjerstad consistent playing time with Colton Cowser playing so well.

Wed Apr 2415:20Heston Kjerstad Sitting Against Left-Hander
Baltimore Orioles rookie outfielder Heston Kjerstad is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against Los Angeles Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson. Kjerstad made his 2024 debut for the O's on Tuesday against a right-hander and went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts, so he'll head to the bench on Wednesday against a lefty that has been pitching well early this year. Colton Cowser is starting in left field and is batting eighth for the Orioles against Anderson. Kjerstad, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, earned the promotion to Baltimore after hitting .349/.431/.744 with a 1.176 OPS, 10 home runs and 30 RBI in the first 21 games for Triple-A Norfolk. The 25-year-old should be rostered in mixed leagues, but don't be surprised if he continues to sit against lefties given Baltimore's stacked roster.

Tue Apr 2318:18Heston Kjerstad Hitting Eighth In Season Debut
Baltimore Orioles rookie outfielder Heston Kjerstad will make his MLB debut against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. The rookie outfielder is in right field and batting eighth during his O's debut. It's nice to see the O's giving Kjerstad a legitimate look after he tore the cover off the ball in Triple-A. Kjerstad hit 10 home runs with 30 RBI in 21 games before his promotion. He should be a strong fantasy contributor as long as he gets regular at-bats in Baltimore.

Mon Apr 2221:44Orioles Calling Up Heston Kjerstad
The Baltimore Orioles plan to recall outfield prospect Heston Kjerstad from the minor leagues ahead of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels. Kjerstad, the No. 42 prospect in baseball and Baltimore's No. 4 prospect, is slashing a prolific .349/.431/.744 with 10 home runs, 30 RBI, 25 runs scored, and one stolen base in 86 at-bats (21 games) for Triple-A Norfolk this season, and it was only a matter of time before he was brought back up to the big-league club after a brief cameo late last season. The lefty-hitting 25-year-old former No. 2 overall pick figures to get most of his playing time in left field and at designated hitter against right-handed pitching with Austin Hays (calf) sidelined, but there's no guarantee for everyday at-bats with both Colton Cowser and Ryan O'Hearn off to strong starts. Even so, Kjerstad carries enough four-category fantasy upside to be an immediate add in the majority of mixed leagues.

Fri Apr 1908:28Heston Kjerstad Hits Eighth Home Run On Thursday
Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Heston Kjerstad launched his eighth home run of the season to cap off a 3-for-3 day at the plate. The 25-year-old has been off to an unbelievable start to the season with a .342/.425/.726 slash line and is closing in on double-digit long balls in the minor leagues. Kjerstad held his own in the majors last season, albeit in a small sample size, where he hit for a .233 batting average and two home runs, and he should be in for a bigger opportunity this season. Kjerstad is on the brink of a promotion and is worth stashing, even in standard single-season leagues.

Tue Apr 911:02Heston Kjerstad Coming Off Historic Week
Baltimore Orioles prospect Heston Kjerstad is a household name at this point, and he even appeared in 12 big-league games last season. A deep Orioles roster led to Kjerstad opening the 2024 campaign at Triple-A, but he's become nearly impossible to keep down at this point. He possesses impressive strength and bat speed, using these skills to produce steady contact and power. Despite his aggressive tendencies, he's done an excellent job minimizing strikeouts. Defensively, he has a decent glove and an impressive arm that should allow him to play right field long-term. You'd be hard-pressed to find an individual prospect performance as dominant as Kjerstad's from last week. The former first-round pick mashed opposing pitching, finishing the week with a 12-for-27 line, six homers, 21 RBI, five walks, and six strikeouts. Yes, you read that correctly: Kjerstad drove in 21 runs over the course of one week (six games). He's destined for a promotion to the majors sooner rather than later.

Thu Apr 421:50Heston Kjerstad On Fire To Start The Season
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad hit his fifth home run Thursday in just the sixth game of the season in the minors. The former Arkansas Razorback has been on an epic tear during the first week, batting .593 with 21 RBI. Kjerstad briefly displayed his power over a short stint with the Orioles last season and has continued his menacing ways at the plate in 2024. There is a current logjam of young talent at Camden Yards, however, there is always room for elite power. Fantasy managers should keep tabs on the former second overall draft pick, as he could earn a promotion any day.

Tue Apr 217:33Heston Kjerstad Off To Hot Start
Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Heston Kjerstad has been off to a nice start for Triple-A Norfolk with six hits over his first 12 at-bats. He has also scored four runs and drove in four. The 25-year-old was drafted second overall in 2020 and has become of the top outfield prospects in the game. This past season between Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk, Kerstad hit a healthy .303 with 29 doubles, 21 homers and 55 RBI. Although he is older than most top prospects, the power hitter would likely have a better chance at the big leagues as a member of another franchise, but he could still get a shot with the Orioles if an injury or two opens things up. For now, Kerstad should be rostered in most dynasty leagues, with minimal value in redraft leagues, due to limited opportunity.

Fri Mar 2214:26Heston Kjerstad Reassigned To Minor-League Camp
Baltimore Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad has been reassigned to minor-league camp as the Orioles also reassigned fellow top prospects Jackson Holliday and Kyle Stowers on Friday. The 25-year-old made his big-league debut in the 2023 season and hit .233 with two home runs alongside a .748 OPS across 13 games and 33 trips to the plate. He spent the bulk of his season between Double-A and Triple-A, combining to hit .303 with 21 home runs, five stolen bases, and a .904 OPS across 122 games and 543 trips to the plate. He will open the season at Triple-A Norfolk but a promotion to the big leagues shouldn't be far away.
