Wed Oct 200:46Tyler Holton To Open Wild-Card Game 2 On Wednesday
The Detroit Tigers announced on Tuesday that relief pitcher Tyler Holton will serve as the opener for Wednesday's wild-card Game 2 against the Astros. The 28-year-old made an appearance in Game 1's 3-1 win, recording a single out in the bottom of the eighth inning. Holton excelled as both an opener and late-inning reliever throughout the regular season, going 7-2 with eight saves and 14 holds with a 2.19 ERA, a 0.78 WHIP, and a 21.8% strikeout rate in 66 appearances (nine starts) and 94 1/3 IP. He offers intriguing fantasy value given his late-inning role, although that value will be capped in 2025 if he continues to serve part-time as an opener.

Fri Sep 602:24Tyler Holton Earns Seventh Save Thursday
Detroit Tigers reliever Tyler Holton shut down the San Diego Padres on Thursday to earn his seventh save in a 4-3 win. Holton was tasked with closing out a one-run game and did so relatively easily, allowing just a hit in his inning of work. It's been an interesting situation in the Tigers bullpen lately, as the team has been hot and provided plenty of save chances. Since August 26, Holton has three saves while Jason Foley also has three. Both pitchers have been excellent since the start of August, and it is unlikely that either will dominate save opportunities for the rest of the season. That said, Foley is probably the best bet to lead the team in saves.

Mon Sep 218:54Tyler Holton Named Opener For Monday
Detroit Tigers pitcher Tyler Holton has been named the opener for Monday's game against the San Diego Padres. The left-hander has been an important piece to the bullpen this season. He holds a 2.44 ERA and 0.83 WHIP across 77.1 innings this season. Unlike most relievers, Holton has been able to throw multiple innings during most of his outings. He figures to give the Tigers a few innings on Monday before Ty Madden takes over for a bulk of the relief. This seems like a good idea for Detroit, but fantasy managers won't get much value with these pitchers only throwing a few innings each.

Tue Aug 2710:00Tyler Holton Efficient In Fifth Save
Detroit Tigers reliever Tyler Holton needed only 11 pitches to record his fifth save in Monday's 6-3 win at the Chicago White Sox. Holton did not record a strikeout while throwing eight strikes in a performance that marked his first save since August 6. He is 5-1 with a 2.38 ERA and 0.81 WHIP in 52 appearances, striking out 59 and walking 13 in 75 2/3 innings. Holton has 11 holds, making him a solid option in leagues that use holds as a category. Jason Foley gets the bulk of the save opportunities but Holton's overall ability to record outs is attractive in AL-only leagues and deeper leagues.

Tue Jul 2316:01Tyler Holton Serving As Opener Against Cleveland
Detroit Tigers left-hander Tyler Holton will serve as the opener for Detroit on Tuesday in Cleveland against the division-rival Guardians in what will be a bullpen game for the Tigers. The Tigers will be happy if the 28-year-old southpaw can give them two to three innings to start this contest, but fantasy managers should be avoiding him as a streamer against the first-place Guardians. Holton has a decent 3.17 ERA (3.63 FIP), a 0.87 WHIP, a career-high three saves, 42 strikeouts and only 11 walks in 54 innings in his third year in the big leagues in 2024, but only one of his 39 appearances has coming in a starting role. He has not gone more than two innings in an outing since May 21 against the Kansas City Royals, when he managed to toss 3 1/3 frames while allowing two earned runs. Fantasy managers can find much better streaming options on Tuesday's full slate of games.
