Fri Oct 4 | 21:42 | Michael King Likely To Start Game 3 Of NLDS |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King will likely start Game 3 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Padres manager Mike Schildt said that after Dylan Cease starts Game 1, Yu Darvish will likely go in Game 2, and King will go "soon thereafter," insinuating a Game 3 start for the righty. King was dominant in his first postseason start, striking out 12 batters in seven innings of shutout ball against the Atlanta Braves. King has been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde type pitcher against the Dodgers this season. He's faced them four times, and in two of those he's been dominant (12 innings of shutout ball), and in the other two he's been crushed (10 runs, seven earned in just over eight innings pitched). The good news for Padres fans is the two blowups happened early in the season, with one being a long-relief appearance in South Korea. King may be a risky DFS play in his start, as current Dodgers have hit him for a .326 wOBA and a .366 xwOBA. Those willing to take a risk on him in DFS should know there's likely a bit of volatility in this matchup. |

Wed Oct 2 | 00:15 | Michael King Fans 12 In Wild-Card Game 1 Win |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King was locked in for Tuesday's wild-card Game 1 4-0 win over the Braves. King pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and no walks with 12 strikeouts. The 29-year-old's performance made him just the third pitcher ever to record at least 10 strikeouts with no walks in his first postseason start. King had a great first season with the Padres, going 13-9 with a 2.95 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, and a 27.7% strikeout rate. He should be a fantasy target in 2025, and his stock could jump even higher if he gets more post-season opportunities to impress. |

Mon Sep 30 | 20:42 | Michael King To Start Wild-Card Opener Against Braves |
San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King will get the nod for Game 1 of the wild-card series against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday at Petco Park. Right-hander Yu Darvish will head to the bullpen for the three-game series. In his first season in San Diego after coming over from the New York Yankees via the Juan Soto blockbuster trade, King went 13-9 with a sharp 2.95 ERA (3.33 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP, a career-high 201 strikeouts and 63 walks in 173 2/3 innings over 31 outings (30 starts). The 29-year-old is hot coming into the playoffs, too, and didn't allow more than three earned runs in any of his 11 starts in the second half of the season. In four starts in September, he gave up seven runs (four earned) while walking six and fanning 24 in 23 innings. Tuesday's big start will be King's first against the Braves this year, a club that has had trouble scoring runs at times without Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) and Austin Riley (hand). |

Wed Aug 14 | 09:02 | Michael King K's 10 On His Way To 10th Victory |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King bounced back in a big way in Tuesday's victory versus the Pittsburgh Pirates. After a rough outing last time out, King fired six scoreless innings to improve to 10-6 on the season. King allowed seven hits in the contest, but walked zero batter and recorded 10 strikeouts. King was the big name that came over from the New York Yankees for Juan Soto this offseason and overall has performed to a high level with his new team. On the season, King has a healthy 3.19 ERA to go along with 10.71 K/9 and 11 quality starts. He has also pitched exclusively as a starting pitcher for the first time in his career and has thrown a career-high 135 1/3 innings. At this rate, the only concern for managers would be his innings pitched, but the 29-year-old hasn't shown any signs of fatigue and managers should remain confident in the right-hander. Next up for King will be a date versus the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. |

Mon Aug 5 | 12:10 | Michael King Set To Start On Wednesday |
San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King (calf) is listed as the team's starting pitcher for their contest in Pittsburgh on Wednesday against the Pirates. King had his last turn through the starting rotation skipped due to left-calf soreness after he was hit by a line drive. The 29-year-old appears good to go now, though, and will slot back in on Wednesday. King's last start came on July 27 against the Baltimore Orioles, when he allowed only two earned runs with nine strikeouts and two walks in 6 1/3 innings for his ninth win of 2024. He has had a quality start in four of his last five outings for the Friars and has been useful in most fantasy leagues in his first year in SD with a 3.26 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 144 K's in 124 1/3 frames over his 22 outings (21 starts). The Pirates have the fourth-lowest team OPS in baseball, so King should be thrown back into starting lineups when he toes the rubber on Wednesday. |

Sat Aug 3 | 00:31 | Michael King Day-To-Day With Calf Issue |
San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt says that starting pitcher Michael King (calf) is "a little sore from the comebacker he took in his last start and he needs a couple of extra days", so his next turn in the rotation will be skipped in Sunday's game against the division-rival Colorado Rockies. King was hit by a 109-mph comebacker in the left calf in last Saturday's start against the Baltimore Orioles on the game's first batter before throwing 6 1/3 strong innings. With King having already tossed a career-high 124 1/3 innings in 2024, the Padres are in no hurry to rush him back into the rotation. King played catch on Friday, and his issue doesn't seem to be a long-term concern. Although the 29-year-old right-hander will miss a favorable matchup at home against the last-place Rockies on Sunday, King tentatively lines up to make his next appearance against the depleted Miami Marlins at some point next weekend. |

Sat Jul 27 | 22:43 | Michael King Strikes Out Nine In Saturday's Win Over Baltimore |
San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King (9-6) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out nine over 6 1/3 innings in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles. He picked up his ninth victory of the season. The 29-year-old threw 101 pitches, landing 66 for strikes. King has struck out at least five or more hitters while posting a 1.82 ERA over his previous four starts. He owns a 3.26 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 144: 45 K: BB across 124 1/3 innings. King will look to continue his impressive run in his next start on Friday against the Colorado Rockies. |

Mon Jul 22 | 03:07 | Michael King Picks Up Win, Quality Start Sunday |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King (8-6) was the "King of the Hill" Sunday afternoon picking up the win and a quality start after tossing seven one-run innings allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts and one walk in a close 2-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians. King carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning before allowing a bloop single off the bat of Angel Martinez and another single to Jose Ramirez. Ramirez was tossed out at second base after trying to sneak an extra base after a long throw from right field to third base. The lone run allowed then came in on a Josh Naylor ground out. The 29-year-old hurler has been excellent in his last four starts in which he hasn't allowed more than one run in all four starts to some power house teams in the Red Sox, Rangers, Mariners, and Guardians. In the last month and a half he's lowered his ERA from 4.31 to a stellar 3.28 ERA on the season. His next opponent will be no walk in the park either with a matchup against the Baltimore Orioles on the road set for next weekend. |

Sun Jul 21 | 16:44 | Michael King Dazzles On Sunday |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King tossed seven innings of one-run ball en route to earning his eighth victory of the campaign. He allowed just two hits and one free pass. He struck out six. King carried a no-hitter into the seventh but allowed a leadoff single to Angel Martinez. Martinez would then score on an RBI groundout, courtesy of Josh Naylor. The 29-year-old has now posted four straight strong outings as he entered Sunday riding a 1.56 ERA and 0.92 WHIP across his past three starts. In his first season as a starter, King has flashed elite upside at times but has had a few growing pains. The right-hander should remain in all lineups going forward and is a high-upside play in DFS. |

Sat Jun 29 | 21:29 | Michael King Tosses Six Innings Of One-Run Ball |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King tossed six innings of one-run ball on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox. He allowed five hits, one free pass, and struck out six. King's one mistake came off a solo shot by Boston outfielder Jarren Duran in the sixth inning. This was a big bounce-back for the 29-year-old right-hander as he allowed five earned runs in his previous start. In his first season as a full-time starter, King has posted a 3.61 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 39:115 BB:K ratio through 99 innings. King has shown elite strikeout potential and should be started in most leagues in his next start on Friday, July 5 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. |

Mon Jun 3 | 00:56 | Michael King Has Strong Showing On Sunday |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King was solid on Sunday, tossing seven innings of one-run ball in a 4-3 loss against the Kansas City Royals. King allowed four hits and two walks while striking out four in this one. He was in line for the win until things unraveled in the ninth for the Padres bullpen, giving King a tough-luck no-decision. The 29-year-old will look to build off his solid May, where he pitched to a 3.00 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. In fact, King has gotten better each month in his first year as a full-time starter, which is somewhat expected. He should be rostered in all but the shallowest of leagues at this point. |

Tue May 28 | 07:57 | Michael King Strikes Out Seven In No-Decision |
San Diego starting pitcher Michael King struck out seven across five innings of one-run ball on Monday. He allowed three hits and one free pass. King has looked dominant at times this season but has also had several blow-up starts, making him a difficult asset to trust in fantasy. He has logged five starts with only allowing at most one earned run but two starts of allowing at least six earned runs with an overall 4.03 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. However, he has shown excellent strikeout upside with a 26.3% K rate, which places him in the top 73 percentile among all qualified pitchers. The 29-year-old will look to post another strong outing on Sunday as he takes on the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. |

Sat May 11 | 08:56 | Michael King Fans 11 Batters In No-Decision |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King threw seven scoreless innings in Friday's 2-1 victory over the Dodgers, striking out 11 but did not factor into the decision. King allowed just two hits and also walked three in the outing. It's the righty's second consecutive start where he did not allow a run, pitching six scoreless against the Diamondbacks his last time out. This is more what fantasy managers were looking for when they drafted the pitcher after posting a low ERA, low WHIP, and a strong K-BB% last season for the Yankees. Over his first seven starts in 2024, the 28-year-old posted a 5.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, 11.7% K-BB%, and 2.50 HR/9, including two outings in which he allowed a total of seven home runs and one outing where he walked seven batters. Hopefully these last two have got him back on track, and he'll look to keep rolling his next time out at home against a struggling Rockies team who strike out third-most in the majors. |

Wed Apr 24 | 00:23 | Michael King Has Short Outing Tuesday |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King did not last long in Tuesday's 7-4 loss to the Rockies. King pitched just 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits (including a grand slam) and three walks with five strikeouts. The 38-year-old has had an up-and-down start to the season with his new team, going 2-2 with a 4.11 ERA, a 9.98 K/9 rate, and a 5.28 BB/9 rate in five starts. He will look to rebound in his next start in a tougher matchup against the Phillies. |

Wed Apr 17 | 18:21 | Michael King Strikes Out 10 Batters |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King looked excellent during Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The right-hander took a tough loss after allowing one run and two hits over 7 2/3 innings of work. It was an 109-pitch game for King who struck out 10 batters over the course of the afternoon. After this outing, King holds a 2-1 record with a 3.33 ERA across four games. |

Sun Apr 7 | 09:23 | Michael King Earns Second Win Saturday |
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Michael King cruised to his second win of the season on Saturday in a 4-0 win over the Giants. Jurickson Profar staked him four runs in the top of the first inning with a grand slam, then King went seven strong innings allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out four. It was certainly cleaner than his last outing in which he also faced the Giants, when the 28-year-old lasted just four innings and walked seven batters. King came over from the Yankees in the offseason and was somewhat of a sleeper pick in fantasy drafts after posting some great numbers as a starter down the stretch in 2023, twirling a 2.23 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and a 25.8% K-BB% over 40 1/3 IP. Hopefully this start gets him back on track for 2024 and the command issues are behind him. |

Wed Mar 13 | 14:59 | Michael King Excelling In Cactus League Action |
San Diego Padres right-hander Michael Kinghas been very good in limited Cactus League action this spring. The 28-year-old has yet to allow an earned runs with four strikeouts against zero walks in five frames to begin his spring. Acquired from the Yankees in a trade that sent superstar Juan Soto to the Bronx, King worked to a tidy 2.75 ERA across 49 appearances (nine starts) in the 2023 season, one year after posting a stellar 2.29 ERA in 34 relief outings with the Yankees in the 2022 campaign. All told, King sports a 3.38 ERA across 115 outings (19 starts) in the big leagues and ATC projects him to toss a 3.59 ERA alongside an 18.4% K-BB% across 24 starts and 32 appearances in the 2024 campaign. His fantasy stock is certainly on the rise as he projects to be the No. 3 starter for the Padres in the upcoming season. |

Thu Jan 11 | 22:54 | Michael King Avoids Arbitration With New Club |
New San Diego Padres right-hander Michael King and the team agreed to a one-year, $3.15 million deal for 2024 on Thursday to avoid salary arbitration. King was part of the package sent to San Diego when the New York Yankees acquired outfielder Juan Soto in December. The 28-year-old was moved from the bullpen to the starting rotation in 2023 in the Bronx and delivered to the tune of a strong 2.75 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 127 strikeouts in 49 outings (nine starts) over 104 2/3 innings pitched. He's expected to stay in a starting role for the Friars in his first year with the team and will have plenty of fantasy appeal with an upgrade in home ballpark. No matter what role King had in 2023, he was effective with a nearly 30 percent strikeout rate. |

Wed Dec 6 2023 | 23:37 | Padres Acquire Michael King, Kyle Higashioka, Others From Yankees |
The San Diego Padres officially sent outfielders Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to the New York Yankees in a blockbuster trade on Wednesday in exchange for right-handers Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, and Randy Vasquez, and catcher Kyle Higashioka. The Padres cleared payroll space and acquired some much-needed pitching help with this massive deal. King, 28, could give the team a solid mid-rotation starter, but he struggled in the big leagues before 2023 and has already dealt with a major elbow injury. Thorpe, 23, was the Yankees' No. 5 prospect and could be a rotation option down the line, but he has yet to pitch above Double-A. Brito, 25, doesn't miss many bats and is likely ticketed for a relief role after struggling as a starter in the majors. Vasquez, 25, has durability questions but could serve as a back-end starter for the Friars. And Higashioka, 34, has some decent power and should serve as ... [ More] |

Sat Oct 14 2023 | 16:40 | Michael King To Remain In Starting Rotation |
New York Yankees pitcher Michael King is expected to remain in the starting rotation entering next season. The right-hander moved into the rotation in mid-August of this season. He posted an impressive 1.88 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 48/9 K/BB ratio across 38 1/3 innings (eight starts) down the stretch of the season. It's a small sample size, but the Yankees like what they've seen from the 28-year-old. He could be a viable option for the Yankees in the rotation next season. Fantasy managers should consider King a possible under-the-radar pickup for 2024. |
