Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News suspects that he will replace the injured Jonathan Sanchez (ankle) on the active roster. Joaquin, 24, has a 3.16 ERA and 25/18 K/BB ratio over 42 2/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season. While Eric Surkamp or Dan Runzler are potential candidates to take Sanchez's spot in the rotation, Joaquin will presumably function in a middle relief role. |

Joaquin has had an interesting journey this offseason, as the White Sox claimed him off waivers from the Giants, he rejected the claim and became a free agent and now is back where he started. His short stint with the Giants in 2010 didn't go well, but he's still just 23, is a hard-thrower and has averaged near a strikeout per inning in the minors. |
