Sun Jun 213:19Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Returns To Starting LineupLourdes Gurriel2BBlue JaysFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (illness) is starting at left field and will bat third on Sunday. Gurriel was scratched from Saturday's lineup with an illness but is already cleared to return. The 30-year-old has posted a disappointing .236/.276/.366 line with six home runs and three stolen bases across 53 games this season. However, he was riding a four-game hitting streak prior to Saturday and looks as if he is returning to form. Gurriel should remain in your fantasy lineup all season and has a great matchup this afternoon and is worth consideration in DFS as he faces southpaw Jose Quintana who holds a 1-5 record with a 5.06 ERA.

Sat Jun 123:13Miguel Andujar Raps Out Four Hits In Win Over BravesMiguel Andujar3BYankeesFree Agent
Oakland A's outfielder Miguel Andujar had his third multi-hit game this week on Saturday, going 4-for-5 with a homer and four RBI in an 11-9 win at the Atlanta Braves. Andujar hit a three-run blast off Braves hurler Chris Sale in the second inning and added a game-clinching RBI single in the eighth. He's been at a blistering .448/.433/.724 pace with 12 RBI in his first seven games with Oakland. He's unlikely to maintain the run but is worth consideration in AL-only or deeper fantasy leagues.

Sat Jun 119:14Thairo Estrada Out Of Lineup On SaturdayThairo Estrada2BYankeesFree Agent
San Francisco Giants second baseman Thairo Estrada is out of the lineup on Saturday night for the Giants' tilt against the New York Yankees. Brett Wisely will start in his place. This appears to be a mix of a rest day for Estrada while also getting Wisely, a lefty, in a nice platoon matchup against Yankees right-hander Cody Poteet. Estrada had a solid May, hitting for a .731 OPS during the month. Fantasy managers shouldn't worry about Estrada's status going forward while DFS managers may want to take a peek at Wisely for Saturday night as the lefty is hitting for an .845 OPS and six RBI in 29 PA so far this season.

Sat Jun 114:48Danny Jansen On The Bench SaturdayDanny JansenCBlue JaysFree Agent
Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's afternoon contest against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. The 29-year-old went 0-for-4 with a pair of walks and a run scored in Friday's extra-innings win but will give way to Alejandro Kirk behind the dish on Saturday. Jansen is in the midst of an excellent season that has seen him hit .287 with five homers alongside a .906 OPS across 116 trips to the plate as he dealt with a broken hand earlier in the season. His productive bat has not only given him the lion's share of starts over Kirk behind the plate but has earned him a spot in the two-hole on a regular basis of late. He has emerged an excellent No. 1 catcher for fantasy managers in the 2024 campaign.

Sat Jun 112:02Connor Wong, Rob Refsnyder Resting SaturdayRob Refsnyder1B/2B/RFIndiansFree Agent
Connor WongFree Agent
Boston Red Sox catcher Connor Wong and outfielder Rob Refsnyder are both out of the starting lineup on Saturday versus the visiting Detroit Tigers. Reese McGuire will do the catching for Boston and will bat seventh, while Enmanuel Valdez will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth against Tigers right-hander Reese Olson. Wong has been a revelation for fantasy managers this year with a .329/.371/.473 slash line with an .844 OPS, five homers and 19 RBI, but his xBA of just .259 signals that regression is likely coming for the backstop. Still, fantasy managers need to keep riding him while he's hot. Refsnyder has also swung a hot bat so far in 2024, going 29-for-87 (333), and the 33-year-old should continue to play regularly with Tyler O'Neill (knee) and Masataka Yoshida (thumb) both on the injured list. O'Neill could be returning next week, though.

Fri May 3112:28Giovanny Gallegos Beginning Rehab Assignment FridayGiovanny GallegosRP/SPYankeesFree Agent
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Giovanny Gallegos (shoulder) will start a minor-league rehab assignment on Friday with Triple-A Memphis. Gallegos is nearing a return to St. Louis' big-league bullpen after being put on the injured list in early May due to a right-shoulder impingement. If the 32-year-old Mexican reliever can avoid any setbacks on his rehab assignment this weekend, he could return to the Cardinals' bullpen early next week. Gallegos will be hoping to be more effective as a late-inning setup man in front of closer Ryan Helsley when he returns, as he had surrendered 12 earned runs on 14 hits (five home runs) while walking seven and striking out 13 in just nine relief innings for the Red Birds before landing on the shelf. The Cardinals aren't going to rush him back until he's ready.

Thu May 3012:35Shawn Armstrong Making The Start Against A'sShawn ArmstrongRPMarinersFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Shawn Armstrong is listed as the starter for the team's game on Thursday against the visiting Oakland Athletics. Armstrong is serving as the opener for this contest for Tampa, with left-hander Tyler Alexander expected to take over as the bulk reliever after Armstrong goes an inning or two. The 33-year-old has performed well as the opener four other times for the Rays this year, but that doesn't mean he's a viable streamer for fantasy purposes. Armstrong is currently 1-1 on the year with a 3.91 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP, one save, 30 strikeouts and nine walks in 25 1/3 innings over 20 appearances (four starts). Alexander has a good matchup once he enters the game, but the 29-year-old southpaw hasn't been nearly as effective as Armstrong has been this year.

Thu May 3000:17Willy Adames Clubs Ninth Homer Wednesday NightWilly AdamesSSRaysFree Agent
Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames clubbed his ninth homer of the season of the two-run variety while going 2-for-3 with an RBI single and another run scored in a 10-6 win over the Chicago Cubs Wednesday night. Adames is currently riding an eight-game hit streak in which he's gone 12-for-31 with two home runs and 10 RBI. The 28-year-old has been productive out of the cleanup spot this season for the Brewers with his .255 batting average, nine home runs, and 39 RBI. That RBI total is tied for 10th in MLB this season. The hot-hitting shortstop will look to continue his hitting streak with matchups against the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies to begin the month of June.

Thu May 3000:11Willi Castro Collects Three Hits In LossWilli Castro2BIndiansFree Agent
Minnesota Twins outfielder/infielder Willi Castro collected three hits in Wednesday's loss to the division-rival Kansas City Royals, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the defeat. The three-hit attack should help get Castro back on track after he went hitless in five of his past six outings. With Royce Lewis (quad) sidelined, the 27-year-old switch-hitter has taken on a more pronounced role across the diamond for the Twins, slashing a respectable .258/.332/.419 with four home runs, 16 RBI, 27 runs scored, and seven stolen bases across 208 plate appearances (55 games) in 2024. Castro is worth holding in the majority of fantasy leagues for his speed and positional eligibility until Lewis returns from his minor-league rehab assignment.

Wed May 2919:33Chris Bassitt Set To Start SundayChris BassittSPAthleticsFree Agent
The Toronto Blue Jays have released their probable starting pitchers for their three-game weekend series against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates that starts on Friday, and right-hander Chris Bassitt (neck) is listed as the team's starter for Sunday's series finale. Bassitt will make his next start after having to leave his last start early on Monday against the Chicago White Sox after he battled through neck spasms for five scoreless innings. The 35-year-old veteran has been great for the Blue Jays and fantasy managers of late and will carry 12-inning scoreless streak into a strong matchup at home against Pittsburgh. The Pirates rank 26th in major-league baseball with a .661 OPS. Bassitt has gone 5-6 this year with a 4.03 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 56 K's in 60 1/3 frames over 11 starts.

Wed May 2917:14Ramon Laureano Joins The BravesRamón LaureanoCFAthleticsFree Agent
Free-agent outfielder Ramon Laureano signed a minor-league deal with the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. The Braves are adding some outfield depth with Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) out for the season with a torn ACL. The 29-year-old Laureano will most likely be assigned to Triple-A Gwinnett and will be major-league bench depth, at best, if he gets called up to Atlanta eventually. Both Jarred Kelenic and Adam Duvall will see more playing time with Acuna out for the remainder of the season. Laureano, formerly a 16th-round pick by the Houston Astros in 2014 out of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, has hit the 20-homer mark once in his previous six MLB seasons (back in 2019 with the A's) and has struggled to find a regular role since leaving Oakland. In 31 games with the Guardians this year before becoming a free agent, he went 10-for-70 (.143) with a homer and four RBI.

Wed May 2913:31Keynan Middleton Could Need SurgeryKeynan MiddletonRP/SPAngelsFree Agent
St. Louis Cardinals right-handed reliever Keynan Middleton (forearm) is headed for further testing on his forearm and could need UCL replacement or repair surgery on his right arm. It would be a tough blow for Middleton and the Cardinals after the free-agent signee was expected to be an integral piece of the team's bullpen this year. Middleton has yet to pitch in 2024 because of persistent pain in his arm. The 30-year-old is set to undergo an MRI exam on Friday, so we should know more then on whether he'll have to miss all of the 2024 season. He signed a one-year, $6 million deal with the Cardinals in free agency back in February. If Middleton needs to go under the knife, not only would he miss all of this year, but he probably wouldn't be ready to go for the start of the 2025 season, either.

Wed May 2912:26J.D. Davis Going For X-Rays After Hit-By-PitchJ.D. Davis3BAstrosFree Agent
Oakland Athletics infielder J.D. Davis (hand) left the game early on Tuesday against the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh inning after being hit by a Zack Littell pitch on his left hand and he will undergo X-rays. Davis also had his right leg stepped on by outfielder Jonny DeLuca in the fifth inning. He was able to finish the inning after being hit by the pitch but was replaced at first base by Tyler Soderstrom before the bottom of the seventh. Manager Mark Kotsay said after the 3-0 win that Davis has a contusion, but we'll know more when his X-ray results are revealed. The 31-year-old went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice before leaving the game and is hitting .225/.271/.369 on the year with four homers and five RBI in 118 plate appearances. There's a good chance we won't see Davis in the starting lineup on Wednesday in Tampa.

Wed May 2908:09Ryne Stanek Picks Up Third SaveRyne StanekRPRaysFree Agent
Seattle Mariners relief pitcher Ryne Stanek recorded his third save of the season in Tuesday's victory versus the division rival Houston Astros. Stanek did quick work versus his former with back-to-back strikeouts against Alex Bregman and Jake Meyers before getting Jon Singleton to flyout for the victory. The Mariners primary closer Andres Munoz had pitched the previous two days and got Tuesday off. Stanek has been having a solid season out of the bullpen and appears to be entrenched as the next man up behind Munoz, but Munoz remains one of the best closers in the game and save opportunities will be few and far between for Stanek. Despite the good outing, Stanek can remain on the waiver wire in most formats.

Tue May 2818:30Nathan Eovaldi Activated And Starting On TuesdayNathan EovaldiSPRaysFree Agent
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (groin) has been activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The right-hander is set to take the mound on Tuesday following a three-week absence due to a lingering groin issue. Before going down, Eovaldi was pitching well in the middle of the Rangers rotation. He'll carry a 2.61 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and 44/19 K/BB ratio through seven starts into Tuesday's game. Eovaldi will be on a pitch count in his return on Tuesday, according to manager Bruce Bochy, so he'll have a much lower ceiling in his first game back.

Tue May 2816:47Twins Recall Diego CastilloDiego CastilloRPRaysFree Agent
The Minnesota Twins recalled right-hander Diego Castillo from Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday and transferred reliever Justin Topa (knee) to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move to make room for Castillo on the 40-man roster. Castillo is a veteran of six major-league seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays and Seattle Mariners. He's a sinker-slider reliever with mid-90s velocity, a 3.22 ERA and 304 strikeouts in 268 career MLB innings. The 30-year-old earned the call-up to the big leagues by posting a 2.50 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, five saves and 22 strikeouts in 18 relief innings for St. Paul. The Dominican reliever has 35 saves in his six major-league seasons and will give the Twins some veteran setup depth in the later innings moving forward.

Tyler Nevin3BRockiesFree Agent
The Oakland Athletics reinstated infielder Aledmys Diaz (calf) from the 60-day injured list on Tuesday and designated infielder Tyler Nevin for assignment in a corresponding move. Diaz is finally back from a strained right calf that he suffered in spring training in early March, but he won't immediately return to Oakland's starting lineup against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 33-year-old hit just .154 in 32 plate appearances in 10 games during his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas and is probably going to be a utility man for the A's until further notice, making him only attractive as depth in AL-only leagues behind Max Schuemann at the 6 and Abraham Toro at second base. Nevin had become a waiver-wire consideration in deeper fantasy leagues due to his hot start in April, but since then he's had just one hit in 43 at-bats and is off the active roster.

Tue May 2816:02Yandy Diaz Drops To Two-HoleYandy Díaz3B/DHIndiansFree Agent
Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz has been dropped from leadoff to the two-hole on Tuesday against the visiting Oakland Athletics and right-hander Mitch Spence. Outfielder Richie Palacios is starting in right field and will take over the leadoff duties for Diaz. Almost all of Diaz's at-bats this year have come in the top spot of the batting order for the Rays, but his move down one spot comes during what has so far been a disappointing year for Diaz's standards. He's batting .249/.316/.354 with four home runs, 25 RBI and 22 runs scored in 231 plate appearances. However, Diaz has been more himself this month, going 26-for-91 (.286) with three homers, five doubles and 14 RBI in 23 games. The move down one spot in the batting order shouldn't worry fantasy managers at all. Diaz has never faced Spence in his career.

Tue May 2815:46Shohei Ohtani Won't Play In Game 2 Against MetsShohei OhtaniDH/SPAngelsFree Agent
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that designated hitter Shohei Ohtani will not start the second game of the team's doubleheader on Tuesday against the hosting New York Mets at Citi Field. Catcher Will Smith will serve as the DH for the nightcap of the twin bill, with Austin Barnes likely doing the catching against Mets veteran left-hander Jose Quintana. Ohtani is the DH and is batting in the two-hole for Game 1 against Mets right-hander Tylor Megill, but he'll get to rest in the second game with a southpaw on the mound. It's been a pretty successful year at the plate so far for the two-way superstar in his first year in LA, as Ohtani currently leads the league in average (.336), slugging percentage (.621), OPS (1.024) and total bases (131) while also adding 13 homers, 35 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 53 games.

Tue May 2814:41Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Out Of Tuesday’s LineupLourdes Gurriel2BBlue JaysFree Agent
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. is out of Tuesday's lineup against the hosting Texas Rangers. It's a maintenance day for the 30-year-old veteran, who will be replaced by the speedy Jake McCarthy in left field on Tuesday. Gurriel was a first-time All-Star in 2023 and got off to a hot start in 2024, but he's cooled off considerably over the past month, hitting .168 (17-for-101) with just one home run, five doubles, and seven RBI across his last 26 outings. Look for him to rejoin Arizona's lineup for Wednesday's series finale against the Rangers and left-hander Andrew Heaney. The righty-hitting Gurriel is batting .323 with two homers, five doubles, and 10 RBI in 65 at-bats against left-handed pitching this year.
