Tue Aug 3 202123:18Luis Gil Shines In MLB Debut
New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil went six scoreless in his MLB debut during a 13-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The 23-year-old struck out six and allowed just four hits and one walk in the quality start. With Yankees starting pitchers Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery, and Domingo German are on the shelf, Gil has been given an opportunity, in the short term, to make an impact in the Bronx. Gil has the ability to rack up strikeouts (13.0 K/9 in the minors), but also the propensity to issue free passes (13.0 BB/9). The Yankees right-hander will look to build on this start Sunday against the Seattle Mariners and is a worth a speculative add.

Tue Aug 3 202115:51Luis Gil Starting Tuesday For Yankees
New York Yankees pitching prospect Luis Gil is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Orioles. Manager Aaron Boone initially said that Nestor Cortes Jr. would start Tuesday night's game in place of Gerrit Cole, who tested positive for the virus- though it will be Gil, the fourth-ranked prospect in the organization. The 23-year-old possesses a mid-to-high nineties fastball with a hard slider but has struggled with control in the minors, posting a 1.34 WHIP in 61 innings across two levels. Despite that, Gil has shown no trouble striking out hitters, posting a 27.7 percent strikeout rate at the Triple-A level, something that could make him worth a look in DFS against an Orioles' team that ranks 18th in strikeout rate.
