Tue Jul 19 201122:29Guillen comes up big in win over A's
Carlos Guillen went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 8-3 victory over the A's.
Activated from the 60-day disabled list over the weekend, Guillen is now 4-for-10 with three RBI in three games. He's been hitting for a little while now, as he batted .316 (12-for-38) with one home run and eight RBI over 11 games with Triple-A Toledo on his rehab assignment. If he's somehow still available in your AL-only league, pounce quickly.

Sat Jul 16 201113:17Carlos Guillen activated
Tigers activated 2B Carlos Guillen from the 60-day disabled list.
Guillen is returning from microfracture knee surgery. His range at second base is sure to be suspect, but he should be able to provide the Tigers with some offensive punch. He batted .316 (12-for-38) with one home run and eight RBI over 11 games with Triple-A Toledo on his rehab assignment.

Fri Jul 15 201123:28Guillen (knee) to be activated Saturday
Carlos Guillen (knee) will be activated from the disabled list before Saturday's game.
Guillen wrapped up his minor league rehab assignment Friday with Triple-A Toledo. "We're expecting him to play well for us and contribute offensively," said Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski. "It's up to Jim (Leyland) when he plays him, of course, but we're bringing him back to play second base the majority of the time." Leyland said following Friday's game that Guillen will start at second base and mostly bat seventh in the order. The 35-year-old is coming back from microfracture surgery on his knee, which is no walk in the park, but he's worth snagging in AL-only leagues and even some deeper mixed formats with MI (middle infielder) spots.

Fri Jul 15 201120:58Guillen's rehab set to end
CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports Friday is expected to be the final day of Carlos Guillen's (knee) minor league rehab assignment.
Guillen will be making his 2011 debut whenever he's activated, and could really help the Tigers out at both third base and second base. He'll be worth an immediate flier in AL-only leagues and deeper mixed formats upon his return, which apparently could come this weekend.

"I'm just going to wait until they tell me he's ready to play," Leyland said. Guillen has batted .314/.385/.457 with one homer in 10 games since moving his rehab assignment up to Triple-A Toledo. Although there's no timetable for when he'll join the big club, it shouldn't be much longer.

Fri Jul 1 201112:24Carlos Guillen moves rehab up to Triple-A
Carlos Guillen (knee) has been moved up from High-A Lakeland to Triple-A Toledo to continue his rehab assignment.
It's a good sign. Guillen picked up just three hits in 15 at-bats during his time with Lakeland, but apparently the Tigers are feeling good enough about his rehab to give him a bigger challenge. If he continues to progress, he should rejoin the big club not long after the All-Star break.

Sun Jun 26 201109:44Carlos Guillen set to begin rehab assignment
Carlos Guillen (knee) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lakeland soon.
Word on how Guillen's recovery from knee surgery is going has been hard to come by, but he's apparently progressed enough that he's finally ready to play in some games. He's likely looking at a lengthy rehab assignment, as it wouldn't be surprising if he used the full 20 days. Barring any setbacks, we could see him back at second base for the Tigers somewhere around the All-Star break.

Wed May 11 201115:19Guillen (knee) taking ground balls
Carlos Guillen (knee) was being reevaluated Wednesday by the Tigers' medical staff and physical therapist Jeremy Maddox.
Guillen took some ground balls Wednesday in order to test out the knee. "He's doing some moderate baseball activities today, said Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand. "We'll see how he tolerates that so we can kind of get a little better timeline on getting him back to full baseball activity." It sounds like he's still a long way from wearing a Tigers' uniform again, so Scott Sizemore should continue to get the opportunity to run away with the starting second base job.

Thu Apr 28 201108:39Guillen (knee) back to hitting, running
Carlos Guillen (knee) has begun hitting and running sprints this week.
Guillen is making slow progress from microfracture surgery on his left knee, but Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said he is on track to do even more baseball activities next week. There's no current timetable for a rehab assignment, let alone his return from the disabled list. Will Rhymes and Ryan Raburn should continue to see most of the time at second base.

Tigers placed INF Carlos Guillen on the 15-day disabled list with a knee injury.
Like Grady Sizemore, Guillen is working his way back from microfracture surgery. The veteran infielder is still dealing with some soreness, so the Tigers are sending him to a physical therapist in an effort to get his rehab back on track.

Tue Mar 29 201119:59Guillen (knee) to see physical therapist
The Tigers are sending Carlos Guillen (knee) to Tampa-based physical therapist Jeremy Maddox.
Teammate Clete Thomas bounced back from microfracture surgery after working with the same physical therapist, so the Tigers are hoping his advice can get Guillen's rehab back on track. "He had some increased soreness when we restarted [his program] again," said Tigers head athletic trainer Kevin Rand. "It's just going to be one of those rehabs where you just have to treat him symptomatically. The symptoms allow you to progress his activity. When you have to back off, you have to back off." With no clear timetable for Guillen's return, Will Rhymes is set to see most of the playing time at second base in the early part of the season.

Thu Mar 24 201115:28Guillen (knee) hopes to run next week
Carlos Guillen (knee) hopes to resume running next week.
Though he hasn't received as much attention as Grady Sizemore this spring, Guillen is also working his way back from microfracture surgery on his knee. The 35-year-old isn't feeling any soreness at the moment, but he's already been ruled out for the start of the season. "I don't feel frustation," said Guillen. "Whenever my body tells me I'm ready, I'm ready." Will Rhymes is expected to get the bulk of the playing time at second base for the foreseeable future.

The Detroit News' Lynn Henning writes that Carlos Guillen (knee) will not be ready by Opening Day.
Guillen said Friday that he would know by the end of next week whether or not he'd be ready for the opener. Fri Mar 11 201120:37Guillen will know next week if he'll be ready
Carlos Guillen (knee) said he'll know by the end of next week if he'll be ready by Opening Day.
Guillen ran the bases for the first time earlier this week, and he's expected to run them again this weekend. He's yet to run them at game speed, though, and he'll also need to go through groundball drills at game speed, as well. It seems likely that he'll probably start the year on the DL just to be safe, but he has an outside shot at being ready.

Fri Mar 4 201117:31Leyland sticking by Carlos Guillen
Tigers manager Jim Leyland reiterated on Friday that Carlos Guillen (knee) will be the team's second baseman when healthy.
He added Will Rhymes, Scott Sizemore and Danny Worth are in a "quiet competition" for the spot while Guillen continues to rehab from microfracture surgery on his left knee. Although he remains without a return date, Guillen has been participating in both hitting and fielding drills since reporting to camp, and still has a decent shot at being ready for Opening Day.

Wed Feb 23 201110:08Tigers' Guillen deals with soreness in knee
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said that Carlos Guillen's surgically-repaired left knee "was a little sore" on Tuesday.
Leyland qualified the statement by saying that the soreness "wasn't a red flag," but Guillen is working his way back from microfracture surgery, so it's impossible to know what to expect. If healthy, the 35-year-old figures to be the primary second baseman for the Tigers, but Will Rhymes, Danny Worth, Scott Sizemore, Ramon Santiago, and Ryan Raburn could all figure in if he needs to begin the season on the disabled list.
