Wed Aug 26 201515:06Perez announced retirement Wednesday
Perez announced his retirement Wednesday, Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reports.
Perez, who had been working out at the Orioles' facility in Florida while serving a second drug-related suspension, most recently pitched for the organization's Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk earlier this season. The 30-year-old appeared in games for the Cardinals, Indians and Dodgers during his seven-year major league career, posting a lifetime 3.51 ERA with 133 saves in 393 appearances. He'll be best-remembered for his time in Cleveland, where he was a two-time All-Star and posted a cumulative 2.84 ERA over 180.1 innings from 2010-12.
Thu Jul 2 201515:51Perez (suspension) signed by Orioles on Thursday
Perez (suspension) was signed by the Orioles on Thursday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Perez, who opted out of a minor league deal with Milwaukee earlier this season, was suspended 50 games last month after testing positive for a "drug of abuse." He must serve the suspension before appearing in a game for the Orioles organization. Once the suspension is served, Perez will likely be assigned to Triple-A or another minor league affiliate.

Perez has been suspended 50 games after testing positive for "a drug of abuse," Chris Iott of MLive.com reports.
This is actually Perez's second drug related offense in his career. A minor league free agent, he opted out of his minor league contract with the Brewers in late April. It remains to be seen whether a team will take a flier on the 29-year-old reliever once his suspension ends.
Mon Apr 27 201511:49Perez opted out of minor league contract with Brewers on Monday
Perez opted out of his minor league contract with the Brewers on Monday.
Perez had the option as a veteran to either stay with the club or opt out before a certain date, and it appears he's elected to go with the latter as he attempts to find work in the majors elsewhere. He spent most of 2014 with the Dodgers, but finished with an underwhelming 4.27 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 1.56 K/BB rate. It's highly unlikely he'll return to a closer role he had with the Indians, leaving his value minimal in most leagues even if he does crack a big league roster.
Tue Mar 31 201515:08Perez re-signed with Brewers on minor league contract Tuesday
Perez re-signed with the Brewers on a minor league contract Tuesday.
Perez had just been granted his unconditional release from the club Sunday after failing to crack the team's Opening Day roster, but ultimately decided to stay within the organization. The 29-year-old veteran will serve as a bullpen option like at Triple-A Colorado Springs, and could be in line for a promotion if the big league club finds themselves in need of more relief arms.
Sun Mar 29 201520:20Perez granted unconditional release Sunday
Perez was granted his unconditional release Sunday.
Having failed to make the Brewers' Opening Day roster, Perez will likely look to join an organization that gives him a better shot to eventually reach the majors. He'll probably have to settle for a minor league contract, after posting a 4.27 ERA and 39:25 K:BB over 46.1 innings for the Dodgers last year.

Perez signed a minor-league deal with the Brewers on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Andrew Gruman of FOX Sports Wisconsin reports.
Perez tossed 46.1 innings for the Dodgers in 2014, posting a 4.27 ERA and 7.58 K/9 ratio. The 29-year-old righty will provide Milwaukee with veteran bullpen depth, and given the current state of their relief pitching, may have a chance to compete for a higher-leverage role.
Mon Sep 1 201416:53Perez (ankle) activated from 15-day disabled list Monday
Perez (ankle) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.
Perez remained on his rehab assignment at High-A Rancho Cucamonga probably longer than was necessary, but in waiting until Sept. 1 to bring him back, the Dodgers didn't have to make a corresponding move. He's been mostly abysmal this season with a 5.03 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and just 30 strikeouts in 39.1 innings, putting him at risk of being left off the team's postseason roster.
Thu Aug 21 201421:06Perez (ankle) likely won't be activated until rosters expand
Perez (ankle) likely won't be activated until rosters expand, Eric Stephen of True Blue L.A. reports.
Perez hasn't pitched since Aug. 3 after hitting the DL with bone spurs in his right ankle. Prior to landing on the disabled list, the 29-year-old reliever owned a shaky 5.03 ERA and 1.45 WHIP on the year. The team simply feels comfortable enough to extend his rehab work, and call him up to provide bullpen depth in September.
Mon Aug 18 201418:30Chris Perez: (Ankle) Will Begin Rehab Assignment Monday
Perez (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment at High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Monday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.
Perez will throw one inning with Rancho Cucamonga, and that may end up being the extent of his rehab assignment. He's eligible to return from the DL on Tuesday, though the Dodgers could choose to wait an extra day to afford him some additional recovery time following Monday's outing.
Mon Aug 4 201418:29Perez placed on 15-day DL Monday with bone spurs in right ankle
Perez was placed on the 15-day DL Monday with bone spurs in his right ankle.
The former closer hasn't thrived in his middle relief role this season, posting a 5.03 ERA in 39.1 innings. He will be replaced on the roster by relief pitcher Carlos Frias, who was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move.
Thu May 1 201416:38Chris Perez gets five outs for save
Chris Perez got a five-out save in the Dodgers' 9-4 win over the Twins in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.
Perez came in with the tying run on deck in the eighth, so it qualified as a save chance, even though it was a four-run game at the time. The Dodgers then added one more run in the top of the ninth. It was Perez's first save after six holds for the Dodgers. He's performed well, allowing just two runs in 13 1/3 innings to date, but he's not much of a threat for more saves.

Tue Dec 24 201314:49Dodgers finalize contract with Chris Perez
Dodgers signed RHP Chris Perez to a one-year, $2.25 million contract.
According to Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register, Perez can make up to $6 million or $8 million with incentives depending on his role. The Dodgers already have Kenley Jansen and Brian Wilson ahead of him on the depth chart, so he's expected to serve in a set-up role in 2014. The 28-year-old posted a 4.33 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 54/21 K/BB ratio across 54 innings in 2013.

Mon Dec 23 201320:16Chris Perez getting $2.5M base from Dodgers
Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports that Chris Perez will receive a $2.25 million base salary in his one-year contract with the Dodgers.
There are also incentives that can bump the deal up to $6 million or possibly even $8 million if Perez winds up closing some games. Of course, with Kenley Jansen and Brian Wilson already at the back end of the bullpen, there will need to be some injuries before he sees time in the ninth inning.

Mon Dec 23 201311:20Dodgers reach agreement with Chris Perez
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Dodgers have officially reached agreement on a one-year contract with free agent reliever Chris Perez.
Perez is taking his physical on Monday morning in Los Angeles. The 28-year-old right-hander has been a closer for the large majority of his career, boasting 132 major league saves, but he'll be more of a middle relief arm for the Dodgers behind closer Kenley Jansen and primary setup man Brian Wilson.

Mon Dec 23 201300:19Report: Dodgers to sign Chris Perez
A source told Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times that the Dodgers and Chris Perez are close to a one-year deal.
It looks like Perez will take the guaranteed money rather than hoping that a team like the Astros or Orioles will step up with an offer that would keep him in the closer's role. On the Dodgers, he'll certainly be behind Kenley Jansen and Brian Wilson in line for saves, and he's probably a worse bet than Chris Withrow.

Fri Dec 20 201320:17Orioles not interested in signing Chris Perez
Despite their deal with Grant Balfour falling through, MASN's Roch Kubatko says the Orioles aren't interested in Chris Perez for the team's closer role.
Kubatko also said the O's are likely to pursue Fernando Rodney or just find an in-house candidate to fill the position. Perez hasn't drawn a ton of interest this offseason after being cut loose by the Indians. The right-hander might have to settle for a middle relief job -- complete with a middle relief salary -- and hope to re-establish some value.

Wed Dec 11 201319:06Teams discussing different roles with Perez
Some of the teams talking to Chris Perez are discussing him in a role other than closer, Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer hears.
Perez has primarily served as closer in his six-year career, registering at least 23 saves in each of the last four seasons. But the 28-year-old struggled to a 4.33 ERA last season and was outright released by the Indians following the season. The Mets and Orioles are two teams who have been linked to Perez in recent days.

Mon Dec 9 201320:05Mets interested in reliever Chris Perez
Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Mets are considering Chris Perez.
Perez would represent insurance for the ninth inning if Bobby Parnell's (neck) rehab doesn't go well. The former Indians reliever is meeting with clubs at the Winter Meetings in order to rehab an image that has taken some hits with off-the-field incidents. Perez shouldn't cost too much after posting a 4.33 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 54/21 K/BB ratio across 54 innings in 2013.

Mon Dec 9 201315:32Chris Perez on site at the Winter Meetings
Chris Perez is on site at the Winter Meetings, having face-to-face chats with interested teams.
It's a smart move for Perez, who had a number of off-field incidents in his final years with Cleveland. He was released in late October and is now trying to find a spot at the back end of a new bullpen. Perez, 28, posted a rough 4.33 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 54/21 K/BB ratio in 54 innings this past summer for the Indians.
