Thu May 4 202314:51Chi Chi Gonzalez Has Contract Selected By Marlins
Miami Marlins pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez had his contract selected by the big club on Thursday while left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer has been designated for assignment in a corresponding move. The veteran right-hander has largely struggled at the big-league level, posting a 5.66 ERA and minuscule 4.1% K-BB% across 68 appearances, 52 of which have been starts. Gonzalez has made three starts with the Marlins' Triple-A affiliate in 2023, working to a 4.54 ERA but also striking out just 12.3% of the batters he's faced across six starts. Smeltzer posted a 6.89 ERA in six appearances (one start) with the Marlins this season spanning 15 2/3 innings of work.

Tue Dec 13 202220:01Chi Chi Gonzalez Agrees With Marlins
The Miami Marlins agreed to terms with right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez on a minor-league deal on Tuesday. The deal includes an invitation to spring training next year. The 30-year-old pitched for the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees in 2022, going a combined 7-5 with a 5.87 ERA (5.55 FIP), a 1.52 WHIP, 15 strikeouts and seven walks in 23 innings over just seven appearances (five starts). At best, Gonzalez will be a fill-in spot starter for the Marlins rotation in 2023. In six major-league seasons with five different teams, Gonzalez has a 5.66 ERA (5.37 FIP), a 1.49 WHIP and a 13.5 percent strikeout rate in 284 2/3 innings pitched covering 68 outings (52 starts).

New York Yankees starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez had his contract selected and will start Sunday against the Baltimore Orioles. The 30-year-old right-hander pitched relatively well in the minors before being called up but has struggled in limited major league action this year. Tue Aug 30 202216:23Chi Chi Gonzalez Signs With Yankees
The New York Yankees signed free-agent right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez to a minor league deal on Tuesday. It would be an understatement to say that Gonzalez has bounced around in 2022. The Yankees will be his fourth major league team after stops with the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers. He's only thrown 18 1/3 innings over six appearances (four starts), allowing 14 earned runs on 24 hits (five homers surrendered) while walking four and striking out 12. The 30-year-old will merely serve as minor league depth for the Yankees down the stretch.

Sun Oct 3 202113:41Chi Chi Gonzalez Designated For Assignment
The Colorado Rockies designated starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez for assignment on Sunday. They also recalled pitchers Justin Lawrence and Antonio Santos and optioned infielder Rio Ruiz on Sunday. Gonzalez had a rough year in 2021, his third season in a Rockies jersey. He made 24 appearances (18 starts) and went 3-7 with a 6.46 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP. He ranked in the bottom 1% of the league in a number of statistics such as strikeout rate (12.5%), xERA (6.60) and xSLG (.527).

Wed Sep 8 202113:07Chi Chi Gonzalez Headed To Injured List
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez (oblique) has been placed on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a right oblique strain, the team announced. Gonzalez is having a miserable season, so this news shouldn't affect many fantasy leagues. He's sporting a 6.50 ERA with just a 12.5 K% and 18 HRs allowed over 99.2 innings. The severity of the injury isn't clear at the moment, and there's no guarantee that he'll make it back before the season's end. Ryan Feltner will most likely stick in the rotation with Gonzalez sidelined, although he should probably stay on the waiver wire after allowing six runs in just 2.2 innings during his debut on Sunday.

Wed Sep 8 202102:17Chi Chi Gonzalez Gets Destroyed On Tuesday
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez took the loss on Tuesday when he allowed five runs on eight hits over just 1 1/3 innings in a 12-3 defeat at the hands of the San Francisco Giants. This was a forgettable day for Gonzalez and the Rockies as he never stood a chance. He coughed up five runs over just 1 1/3 innings while the Giants notched eight hits. The poor outing made his already inflated ERA balloon to 6.50 for the year. He pairs that with an ugly 1.53 WHIP and 55:28 K/BB ratio over 99 2/3 innings (23 appearances, 18 starts). He's slated to start against the Phillies on the road in his next turn and obviously has no fantasy value.

Fri Sep 3 202101:18Chi Chi Gonzalez Gives Up Three Runs, Walks Four
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez took a no-decision on Thursday when he allowed three runs on four hits with four walks and one strikeout over 3 2/3 innings in a 6-5 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Gonzalez had an inefficient outing on Thursday, issuing four walks and needing 79 pitches--43 strikes--to get through his 3 2/3 innings. Jorge Soler smashed a solo homer off him in the first inning and Austin Riley added two more runs with an RBI double in the third. The Rockies still had the lead when he exited the ball game but he didn't go deep enough to qualify for the decision. He now owns a 6.13 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 55:28 K/BB ratio over 98 1/3 innings (23 appearances, 17 starts). He'll face the Giants at home in his next turn and shouldn't be streamed in that one.

Wed Aug 18 202118:42Chi Chi Gonzalez Allows Three Runs In Spot Start
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez allowed three runs on four hits across three innings in a 7-5 win over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday. Gonzalez was filling in for Austin Gomber, who was placed on the paternity list and performed as well as you would expect. He served up a two-run homer to Wil Myers in the top of the second inning before allowing an RBI single to Manny Machado in the third. He was pulled after three innings and didn't record a strikeout or a walk. The 29-year-old now owns an ugly 6.15 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, and 53:24 K/BB ratio over 93 2/3 innings (20 appearances, 16 starts). It's unclear if he'll get another start in the coming week but if he does, it'll come against the Cubs on the road. He has no fantasy value as a starter or a reliever though.

Tue Aug 17 202121:34Chi Chi Gonzalez Will Start Wednesday Vs. The Padres
Colorado Rockies pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez (illness) will return from the COVID-19 list and start Wednesday's game against the San Diego Padres. He will fill in for Austin Gomber, who was placed on the paternity list Tuesday. The 29-year-old has struggled this season, owning a 6.06 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts across 90 2/3 innings. Gonzalez can't be trusted to be used as a streamer and should be avoided in all league formats. Gomber will miss at least the next three days and it's unclear at this time if he will make a turn in the rotation this week.

Thu Jul 29 202102:14Late-scratch Judge hits tiebreaking single for Yanks in 10th
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Aaron Judge went from being a late scratch to hitting a tiebreaking single in a two-run 10th inning to help the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays for the second straight day, 3-1 on Wednesday night. Judge was taken out of the lineup about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. Although no announcement was made about why, the All-Star right fielder struck out in the fifth pinch-hitting for Estevan Florial. Judge returned to the team Tuesday after going on the COVID-19 injured list July 16. New York also had a big night off the field. The Yankees reached a deal to get All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not yet been announced and was subject to approval of medical records of the players involved. Greg Allen was hit by a pitch from Pete Fairbanks (3-4) leading off the 10th, putting runners on first and second. Judge... [More]
Wed Jul 28 202118:55Chi Chi Gonzalez Joins Covid List
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Chi Chi Gonzalez, who was scheduled to start Wednesday night in Anaheim, has been put MLB's Covid list, according to The Athletic. The team called up Jhoulys Chacin, who is now off the list. Lucas Gilbreath will start in a bullpen game for the Rockies. "I don't suspect Lucas will throw a complete game tonight," Bud Black said. Gonzalez, who is 3-6 with a 6.06 ERA this season, isn't a factor even in deep fantasy leagues, and given his uninspiring stats, Gilbreath can be ignored as well. Chacin has mostly been used in relief this season.

NEW YORK (AP) — Eduardo Rodriguez shut down the short-handed Yankees into the sixth inning, Christian Arroyo and J.D. They joined Yankees pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes Jr. and Wandy Peralta, who have also tested positive over the past week. Fri Jul 9 202101:29Rookie pitcher hits slam off Scherzer, Padres overtake Nats
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Rookie reliever Daniel Camarena hit a stunning grand slam off Washington ace Max Scherzer and the San Diego Padres overcame an eight-run deficit, finally beating the Nationals 9-8 Thursday night on Trent Grisham’s RBI single in the ninth inning. The Padres matched the biggest comeback in franchise history, helped by Fernando Tatis’ 28th home run and Grisham’s two-out hit. But it was Camarena’s blow that really jolted the crowd at Petco Park. Camarena, who went to San Diego’s Cathedral Catholic High, was called up earlier in the day for his second stint with the Padres. He replaced Yu Darvish starting the fourth inning and allowed Trea Turner’s second homer of the game, a two-run drive that gave the Nationals an 8-0 lead. With the Padres’ bullpen taxed in recent days, manager Jayce Tingler had Camarena bat for himself against the struggling Scherzer with the bases loaded and two outs in the fourth. The left-hander drove a 1-2 fastball into the right-field stands to send... [More]

MIAMI (AP) — Julio Urías allowed Jazz Chisholm’s leadoff homer, then pitched shutout ball through the seventh inning for his major league-leading 11th win, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 Thursday to avoid a four-game sweep. Miami announced Don Mattingly will return for a seventh season in 2022. PHILLIES 8, CUBS 0 CHICAGO (AP) — Brad Miller hit three home runs in a game for the first time in his career and Philadelphia routed the sinking Cubs. Miller hit a solo drive in the third inning and added two-run homers in the fifth and seventh innings. With a chance at joining the other 18 players who have hit a record four home runs in a game, Miller popped up in the ninth. Zach Eflin (4-6) tossed six crisp innings... [More]

Thu Jun 10 202100:25Tapia helps lead Rockies to rare road win vs Marlins
MIAMI (AP) — Raimel Tapia hit two doubles, singled and scored twice, and the Colorado Rockies earned a rare road victory, beating the Miami Marlins 4-3 on Wednesday night. Charlie Blackmon had two hits and an RBI for the Rockies, who are a major league-worst 5-23 on the road — compared to 20-14 at Coors field. Tapia has eight doubles in June after he hit four over the first two months of the season. Winning pitcher Austin Gomber (5-5) allowed one run in five innings. The left-hander was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the sixth after he scattered five hits and struck out eight on 84 pitches. “I was in the strike zone with all four pitches,” Gomber said. “I thought I had better control than command — got into some long at bats.” Colorado manager Bud Black opted for the pinch hitter because the Rockies had runners at second and third when Gomber’s spot came up, and Connor Joe came through with an RBI groundout. “Austin had one inning in him, we had a fresh bullpen and we thought that was the... DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies starter Jon Gray has left Friday night’s game against the Oakland A’s in the third inning with an apparent injury. Gray allowed a home run and a one-out walk to start the third, and after the walk pitching coach Steve Foster came to the mound. After a short discussion, manager Bud Black and trainer came out. Gray left right after that and Chi Chi Gonzalez took over. Gray allowed five runs on four hits and walked two in 2 1/3 innings. It was his shortest outing at home in eight starts. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
