Sat Mar 2312:51Jacob deGrom Officially Placed On 60-Day Injured List
The Texas Rangers officially placed right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) on the 60-day injured list on Friday to make room for right-hander Michael Lorenzen on the active roster. deGrom, who is recovering from surgery on his right UCL, started playing catch on Feb. 12 and resumed again on the first official day of spring workouts on Feb. 14, just under eight months after the surgery to fix his torn right UCL ended his 2023 season. It was the second Tommy John surgery for the 35-year-old veteran. General manager Chris Young said that deGrom is progressing well in his rehab with an eye on returning around August. He still has a long ways to go in his recovery and shouldn't be relied on for much, if any, fantasy production late in the second half of 2024 if he returns to Texas' starting rotation.

Wed Feb 1412:20Jacob deGrom Starts Throwing Program
Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) said that he started to throw on Monday and will be throwing again on Wednesday at spring training. deGrom is slowly recovering after having Tommy John surgery on his right elbow last June. If everything goes as planned, the 35-year-old veteran should be able to return to Texas' rotation at some point this summer, along with fellow starter Max Scherzer (back). At this point in his career, deGrom has become a big-time injury risk, as he hasn't thrown more than 100 innings since 2019. After signing a five-year, $185 million deal with the Rangers before the 2023 campaign, deGrom made just six starts before going under the knife. But he was great before getting hurt, striking out 45 and walking just four in 30 1/3 innings.

Wed Oct 18 202313:00Jacob deGrom Making Progress After Tommy John Surgery
Texas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) is just four months removed from his second Tommy John surgery but already has full range of motion and is two months away from doing more extensive upper-body exercises in his recovery. He should resume throwing not far beyond the new year and expects to be on a mound in spring training in 2024. deGrom has received encouragement from doctors that he might hit the short side of a 14- to 18-month recovery period since his first TJ surgery was back in 2010. "My arm feels pretty close to normal already," deGrom said. The 35-year-old lasted just six starts in 2023 in his first year in Texas after signing a five-year, $185 million deal. He has only 32 starts in the last three seasons combined, making him an extreme risk/reward fantasy asset heading into next year.

Tue Jun 13 202312:01Jacob deGrom Has Successful Tommy John Surgery
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) had successful Tommy John surgery on Monday to fix a torn UCL in his right elbow, according to manager Bruce Bochy. The typical recovery time for the procedure is 12-14 months. The Rangers signed deGrom to a five-year, $185 million deal in free agency last winter after he was coming off two injury-plagued seasons with the New York Mets. The two-time Cy Young winner and four-time All-Star pitched well before his injury, striking out 45 with only four walks in 30 1/3 innings. At this point, it's becoming extremely hard to rely on deGrom because of all the injuries, and there's a good chance he won't be able to pitch at all in 2024. If you haven't already done so, go ahead and drop him in single-year fantasy leagues.

Tue Jun 6 202317:04Jacob deGrom To Have Tommy John Surgery
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery to fix a tear in his right UCL. The Rangers shifted deGrom to the 60-day injured list on Monday, and now we know why. The oft-injured 34-year-old right-hander will now miss the rest of the 2023 season and most likely most, if not all, of the 2024 campaign. After landing deGrom as a big free-agent prize in the offseason, the Rangers will only end up getting six starts out of him in 2023. He'll finish the year with a 2-0 record, 2.67 ERA (1.57 FIP), 0.76 WHIP, fur walks and 45 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings. The four-time All-Star and two-time National League Cy Young winner can now be safely dropped in single-year fantasy leagues.

Mon Jun 5 202318:37Jacob deGrom Transferred To 60-Day Injured List
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) has been transferred to the 60-day injured list to make room for the return of fellow pitcher Spencer Howard. The oft-injured deGrom hasn't pitched since April 28 due to another elbow injury and won't be first eligible to return until June 28. After yielding five earned runs on Opening Day, deGrom has allowed just four earned runs over his last five starts with 38 strikeouts over 26 2/3 innings in that time. Still perhaps the most dominant pitcher in baseball when healthy, he sports a 2.67 ERA on the season but also an eye-popping 1.57 FIP, 2.15 SIERA, and monstrous 35.7% K-BB% across 30 1/3 innings on the campaign. Howard has yet to pitch in the big leagues this season and owns a 7.09 career ERA across 111 2/3 innings of work.

Sat May 27 202312:51Jacob deGrom Mixes In Offspeed Pitches In Latest Bullpen
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) threw a 31-pitch bullpen session on Friday in Baltimore, and manager Bruce Bochy said he "felt fine" while mixing in sliders and changeups for the first time since suffering from right-elbow inflammation. The Rangers will continue to evaluate deGrom, and they'll have a clearer picture of his timetable in the coming days. The 34-year-old left his April 28 start with right-forearm tightness and was put on the injured list the next day after his MRI exam showed elbow inflammation. deGrom has now thrown four bullpens, which is encouraging, but the Rangers are surely going to take things slowly with their oft-injured ace. He's looked good in six starts for Texas this year, posting a 2.67 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 45 K's in 30 1/3 innings.

Tue May 23 202310:01Jacob deGrom Throws A Bullpen Session Monday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) completed a 32-pitch bullpen session on Monday that, according to manager Bruce Bochy, went "really well." The right-hander will throw another bullpen session on Friday, and hopefully, there will be some clarity on an expected return date after that. deGrom told reporters he's "turned a corner," so he shouldn't be far off. Before landing on the injured list in late April with right forearm tightness, the 34-year-old was his normal self, pitching to a 2.67 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 39.1% strikeout rate with a pair of victories over six starts. Fantasy managers should check back in for more updates on deGrom's recovery.

Tue May 16 202318:23Jacob deGrom Tosses Bullpen Session
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) was able to throw a light bullpen session on Tuesday. It sounds like the 34-year-old was able to get through the session without any issues. The expectation is that he'll continue to increase activities, so hopefully he'll return by late May or early June. This bullpen session is a small step in the right direction for the All-Star hurler. He has been sidelined since late April due to right forearm tightness. Fantasy managers should expected to be without deGrom for a few more weeks.

Tue May 9 202322:15Jacob deGrom Could Be Out "Another 2-3 Weeks"
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) could be "another 2-3 weeks" from returning from the injured list. deGrom continues to only do light throwing as he rehabs from a right forearm/elbow injury, and the Rangers certainly aren't going to rush the oft-injured 34-year-old right-hander back into action. There is no timetable for deGrom to get back onto a mound at this point, so fantasy managers are just going to have to continue to be patient with the All-Star hurler. It would be a surprise at this point if he's back pitching for Texas in May. In his six starts this year, deGrom has been solid with a 2.67 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 45 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings.

Tue May 9 202314:15Jacob deGrom Has No Timeline For Mound Work
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) continues to be limited to playing light catch, and there's no timetable for when he will be cleared to throw off a mound. deGrom's rehab from a right-elbow injury is going to take some time, so fantasy managers won't be getting the 34-year-old right-hander back from the injured list when he's eligible to return this Sunday. All fantasy managers can do with the oft-injured hurler is be patient and continue to stash him in an injured-list slot. In his first six starts for the Rangers this year, deGrom has a 2.67 ERA (1.63 FIP), 0.76 WHIP, four walks and 45 strikeouts in 30 1/3 innings. Dane Dunning took deGrom's first start in the team's rotation and is likely to remain in the rotation for the time being.

Wed May 3 202318:19Jacob deGrom Scheduled To Play Catch
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) is scheduled to play catch at some point this week. The stud right-hander was recently placed on the injured list due to right elbow inflammation. The Rangers haven't given a clear timetable of when deGrom will be able to get back on the field. The fact he's going to play catch is a positive sign, but it doesn't sound like he's close to returning. Fantasy managers should check back later in the week for another update on his status.

Sat Apr 29 202318:27Jacob deGrom Headed To Injured List
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) was placed on the injured list Saturday with right elbow inflammation. On Friday, deGrom left his start against the New York Yankees with left forearm tightness. The situation changed with more evaluation and now deGrom will be on the IL for at least 15 days. It's horrible news for everyone involved as he was pitching like the ace he is and will now be shut down for some time. It's not known how long he will miss, but an extended absence may still be in the cards.

Fri Apr 28 202322:53Jacob deGrom Dealing With Forearm Tightness
Texas Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said that starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (forearm) left his start on Friday against the New York Yankees early due to left-forearm tightness. The team will continue to evaluate him on Saturday, but this is an ominous sign for the oft-injured right-hander. Before leaving, deGrom allowed no runs and only one hit while walking one and striking out two in 3 2/3 innings to lower his season ERA to 2.67. Until we know more, fantasy managers should consider the 34-year-old day-to-day, but given deGrom's long list of injuries over the years, we may want to expect a trip to the injured list. A lengthy absence would obviously be terrible news for the Rangers and fantasy managers. Stay tuned for more updates on deGrom.

Sun Apr 23 202319:36Jacob deGrom Strikes Out 11 In Win
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (wrist) was forced to exit early during his last start, but felt good enough to pitch on Sunday. The superstar right-hander looked as sharp as ever during Sunday's 5-2 win over the Oakland Athletics. The A's offense had no answers for deGrom as they struck out 11 times over his six innings of work. The Rangers have now won all five of the games deGrom has started this season. The 34-year-old holds a 3.04 ERA and a 43/3 K/BB ratio in 26 2/3 innings for the Rangers right now.

Sat Apr 22 202318:36Jacob deGrom Will Make Sunday Start
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (wrist) has been confirmed as the starting pitcher for Sunday's matchup with the Oakland Athletics. He has pitched to a 1.31 FIP and 0.87 WHIP while striking out 32 over 20 2/3 innings. His FIP leads the league, so he is still pitching like the ace he's been, but injuries are obviously a concern. Get him back in your lineup for Sunday's game and hopefully the wrist issue is over with.

Fri Apr 21 202318:44Jacob deGrom On Track To Pitch On Sunday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (wrist) remains on track to make his next scheduled start on Sunday versus the Oakland Athletics. The right-hander was pulled from Monday's start due to soreness in his wrist. He'll throw a bullpen session on Friday, and if all goes well, he'll take the ball against the A's on Sunday. The Rangers obviously want to be careful with their superstar pitcher. Fantasy managers should check back for an update, but it sounds like deGrom will take the mound on Sunday.

Tue Apr 18 202318:41Jacob deGrom Expected To Make Next Start
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (wrist) was forced to exit early during his start versus the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Luckily, the right-hander is feeling better now and is expected to make his next scheduled start. It sounds like the 34-year-old is dealing with wrist soreness, so this could be a day-to-day type of issue. Fantasy managers should wait until closer to Sunday before confirming he'll be back on the mound. The Rangers might take the cautious approach given deGrom's injury history. For the moment, the expectation is that deGrom will be on the mound for Sunday's matchup against the Oakland Athletics.

Tue Apr 18 202312:05Jacob deGrom Being Re-Evaluated Tuesday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (wrist) is being re-evaluated on Tuesday. He said that his wrist soreness popped up early in his start on Monday against the Kansas City Royals and wasn't much, but it became more sore as the outing wore on and he didn't want to change his mechanics and create a bigger issue. The 34-year-old right-hander was removed as a precaution given his lengthy injury history, and he's hoping he can still make his next start this weekend against the lowly Oakland Athletics. The good news is that this isn't related to deGrom's arm at all, but we'll pass along updates as soon as they become available. Before leaving on Monday, deGrom had tossed four hitless innings with one walk and five strikeouts, and he has a 3.48 ERA with three walks and 32 strikeouts through his first four starts for Texas in 2023.
