Sun Sep 28 201411:45Konerko in lineup Sunday for final game of career

Konerko will make one more start in a lengthy career that began in 1997. He will play first base and bat cleanup Sunday against Royals Yordano Ventura.

Konerko is expected to start each of the final three games of the season against the Royals, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Though a little weakened by a recent hand injury, Konerko won't miss out on the opportunity to give White Sox fans a final bow as he heads into retirement after the season. Konerko is no longer the perennial power threat he used to be, but because many managers use the final weekend to rest their regulars, the 38-year-old may be one of the few players across the league that can be marked down for guaranteed at-bats.

Konerko (hand) will rest Saturday but is expected to be in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Konerko is still recovering from a hand injury that left him out of the lineup for a significant amount of time until he was able to play Friday. While not trying to rush into anything, Konerko will cautiously rest up before his appearance Sunday.
Fri Sep 19 201416:13Konerko (hand) back in lineup Friday against Rays
Konerko (hand) is back in the lineup Friday against the Rays.
The training staff has signed off on Konerko returning to action, after his fractured hand held up well during an extended batting practice session earlier in the week. It will be his first start since Sept. 2. It's uncertain how Konerko will be deployed over the final week, but it's hard to imagine he'll play everyday given his age and the nature of the injury.
Tue Sep 16 201419:44Konerko (hand) could return Wednesday
Konerko (hand) could return Wednesday, but says he will certainly be ready by Friday, CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes reports.
He hit 30 pitches in extended batting practice Tuesday, and while Konerko is close to returning, there isn't a set plan for how Chicago plans to deploy him over the final 11 games. The White Sox are holding Paul Konerko Day on Sept. 27, so he'll definitely be in the lineup for that affair, but it's doubtful he'll be used like an everyday player down the stretch.

Konerko (hand) felt only normal soreness after taking swings in the batting cage Saturday.
Konerko is presumably ready to play again, and he should return to action some time this week. If he does not play in the Chicago's upcoming three-game set with the Royals, he is confident he will be ready to play in next weekend's series with the Rays.
Wed Sep 10 201417:09Konerko (hand) hopes to swing with fractured hand over weekend
Konerko (hand) hopes to swing with his fractured hand over the weekend, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Konerko has been progressing well, and is hopeful that he will be able to return some point during the team's nine-game road trip starting Monday. The swelling in his hand has gone done, so if he can swing pain-free he could return next week.
Sat Sep 6 201417:50The swelling in Konerko's hand has gone down
The swelling in Konerko's hand has gone down, and he is hoping to return to action before the season ends, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
It's not certain when Konerko will play again, but he figures he will at least be able to play in the White Sox's final home series later this month, and is optimistic about returning sooner.
Fri Sep 5 201417:23Konerko diagnosed with fractured sesamoid bone in left hand
Konerko has been diagnosed with a fractured sesamoid bone in his left hand, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
The injury, which occurred on a tag play at first base earlier in the week, will sideline Konerko for at least the next seven days but manager Robin Ventura said he is "very hopeful" the 38-year-old will play again before the end of the month. Ventura said recently that he would like to get Konerko more playing time over the final few weeks, after Konerko put the team first and accepted a reduced role this season.

Manager Robin Ventura said he would like to give Konerko more playing time in the season's final month, the Chicago Tribune reports. "I'm sure he'll get a few more for everybody's sake," Ventura said.
The White Sox's captain has served in a limited role in his final season, primarily serving as the team's DH and sometime-1B against lefties en route to 179 at-bats. The team might up that time in the final month to give him a "proper" sendoff, but don't expect it to increase too significantly -- he has rarely played on back-to-back days this season, so it might be difficult to play a full week of games.
Fri Aug 8 201412:39Konerko 0-3 with walk in Thursday's loss to Seattle
Konerko went 0-for-3 with a walk in Thursday's loss to Seattle.
With a limited role, Konerko has done very little in what is almost certainly his final season as a big league player, hitting .236/.278/.376 while making 36 starts. Look for him to see a start or two per week during the remaining weeks of the season, perhaps with an uptick in playing time when the White Sox close out their home schedule in September.
Sat Jun 14 201417:38Paul Konerko homers in loss to Royals
Paul Konerko went 3-for-4 with a solo home run Saturday against the Royals.
It was the only offense of the day for the White Sox. Konerko hasn't played much since Jose Abreu returned from the DL, so he had just nine at-bats this month coming into Saturday's action. The 38-year-old now has four home runs on the season and 438 for his career, which ties Andre Dawson for 42nd on the all-time list.

Paul Konerko provided the offense in the White Sox's win over Padres on Sunday, hitting his third home run of 2014 while going 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI.
Konerko slugged a solo home run in the second inning to get the Sox on the board. He then added a two-run double in the sixth to give Chicago all the runs it needed in the 4-1 victory. Konerko, who is batting just .191, has had a hard time adjusting to a part-time role this season.

Sat May 31 201411:12Konerko (back) returns to Chicago's lineup
Paul Konerko (back) has returned to the starting lineup Saturday against the Padres.
Konerko didn't start Wednesday or Friday due to a back strain, but he's going to try to give it a go. The 37-year-old has received more playing time since Jose Abreu landed on the DL, but he'll move back into a part-time role again soon.

Tue May 20 201400:13Paul Konerko hits two-run homer in win
Paul Konerko hit a two-run homer off the Royals' Jason Vargas in Monday's win.
Konerko should be the White Sox's regular first baseman for a couple of weeks while Jose Abreu rests his ankle. He probably won't go on a homer spree to celebrate, but it'd sure be nice. Tonight's long ball was his second of the year.

Wed May 7 201423:55Paul Konerko plates three to lead White Sox
Paul Konerko doubled twice and drove in three runs as the White Sox beat the Cubs 8-3 on Wednesday.
Konerko was finally able to make a big contribution in a White Sox win. He entered with two RBI on the season, both of which came in losses. The start tonight was his first since April 27, and he hadn't had any at-bats at all since April 29.

Wed Apr 23 201422:10Konerko's three hits help the White Sox win
Paul Konerko went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored as the White Sox defeated the Tigers on Wednesday.
Konerko, who has played sparingly, was hitting .105 in 20 plate appearances entering the night. The 38-year-old was making only his fourth start of the season. With Adam Dunn and Jose Abreu hitting so well, it's hard to fault the White Sox for using Konerko so sparingly.

Thu Apr 17 201423:58Paul Konerko goes hitless in loss
Making just his second start of the season, Paul Konerko went 0-for-4 on Thursday, leaving him 1-for-13.
With Adam Dunn and Jose Abreu off to such nice starts, the White Sox haven't found much for Konerko to do yet. Fortunately, that seems to be OK with him, though he'd surely prefer to better capitalize on what chances he does get.

Mon Mar 24 201418:48Konerko hits first spring homer against M's
Paul Konerko went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run as the White Sox defeated the Mariners 7-6 on Monday.
Konerko took Blake Beavan deep in the sixth inning, ultimately chasing the right-hander out of the game. It is the veteran's first blast of the spring. He also singled for good measure and his spring average is up to .256. The 38-year-old, entering his final season, posted a lackluster .669 OPS last season.

Sun Mar 16 201422:07Paul Konerko plates three in loss to Rangers
Paul Konerko went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a losing effort against the Rangers on Sunday.
The 38-year-old slugger will be a part-time player for the White Sox this season as he embarks on his farewell tour around Major League Baseball. Unless injury strikes to Adam Dunn or Jose Abreu, he's probably best left to those in AL-only formats.
