Tue Aug 18 201516:32Simpson will be suspended for first six games of season
Simpson will be suspended for the first six games of the season.
Already sporting a lengthy disciplinary track record in the NFL, Simpson will serve a multi-game suspension for a second year in a row. This ends his bid for the No. 3 wide receiver job, but he won't necessarily be released, as the 49ers knew when they signed him that a suspension was likely coming, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Bruce Ellington and Quinton Patton are left to compete for the No. 3 role.

Simpson caught two of the three balls thrown his way Saturday, finishing with a team-high 31 yards in the preseason loss to the Texans.
Simpson displayed his playmaking ability with a long 25 yard gain, most of which was a result of his legs. He also displayed his poor decision making when he attempted to leap over a defender (despite being surrounded by five defenders) and was slammed to the ground. Simpson has the talent to win the slot receiver role with his new club, but he has to show better judgement on the field and off the field as well. He will compete with Quinton Patton (zero catches) and Bruce Ellington (DNP) in the final three preseason games for the role.
Thu Mar 5 201517:32Jerome Simpson: Signs With 49ers.
Simpson signed a two-year contract with the 49ers on Thursday.
Arguably known for his legal issues more so than his play on the field, Simpson was released by the Vikings in September while serving a three-game suspension to open the 2014 season. The suspension was for a November 2013 DUI arrest, and his release was prompted by a July arrest for violating a limited driver's license, marijuana possession and open bottle. It's unclear whether the 29-year-old wide receiver will receive further discipline from the NFL, but either way, he'll likely have to compete for a roster spot in training camp.
Thu Sep 18 201418:54Jerome Simpson: Released By Vikings
Simpson was released by the Vikings on Thursday, Tom Pelissero of the Associated Press reports.
With yet another off-the-field incident afflicting Winter Park, the Vikings have opted to jettison the troubled wideout, after news of another arrest emerged Thursday. Simpson is currently serving a three-game suspension, but with an arraignment scheduled for Nov. 3, his legal proceedings will be the primary hindrance to latching on elsewhere. It would surprise if he played a down during the 2014 season.
Thu Sep 18 201413:18Simpson arrested July 7 by Bloomington
Simpson was arrested July 7 by Bloomington, Minn. police for violating a limited driver's license, marijuana possession and open bottle, ESPN 1500 am Twin Cities reports.
Simpson has an arraignment set for Nov. 3 in Hennepin County for the misdemeanor charges. Simpson is currently serving a three-game suspension stemming from a DUI arrest in November. With Simpson already having multiple off-field issues, including a previous three-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy for a drug-related felony charge in 2012, it would seem likely that he'll face another suspension from the NFL and his return from his current three-game suspension is now in doubt.

The NFL has upheld Simpson's three-game suspension stemming from a November DUI arrest, ESPN.com reports.
Simpson is thus eligible to return to the Vikings' lineup for the team's Sept. 28 contest against the Falcons. Upon his return, his role will hinge on the health and production of his fellow wideouts, though presuming the availability of Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings, Simpson would slot in no higher than No. 3 on the team's depth chart at the position, at that time.
Tue Aug 19 201411:57Simpson faces three-game suspension for November DUI arrest
Simpson faces a three-game suspension for a November DUI arrest, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He attended a disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Monday in New York to appeal the suspension.
This report makes it sound like the suspension has been issued and Simpson is trying to appeal it. Simpson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving last November. He pleaded guilty on Jan. 2 to careless driving and refusing to submit to a chemical test following a plea deal and received two years probation. Given his previous three-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy for a drug-related felony charge in 2012 (for mailing two pounds of marijuana to his Kentucky home), it seems very likely he'll miss games.

Simpson traveled Monday to New York for a disciplinary hearing with the NFL to defend himself against a possible suspension for November DUI arrest, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Simpson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving last November. Given his previous three-game suspension for a violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy for a drug-related felony charge in 2012, it seems probable that he could miss additional games for his latest arrest.

Simpson had one reception for six yards in Friday's preseason win over Oakland, but got most of the playing time ahead of Jarius Wright in three-receiver sets, ESPN 1500 am Twin Cities reports.
Simpson and Wright were seen as in a battle for playing time in the third receiver role, but Simpson clearly looked in the lead in Friday's game.
Mon Jun 16 201413:19Jerome Simpson facing 4-game suspension?
The St. Paul Pioneer Press suggests Vikings WR Jerome Simpson could face a four-game suspension stemming from his November 9 DUI.
The NFL typically lets teams know about suspensions before training camp, so we'd expect to hear something by July. A Simpson suspension would clear the path for Cordarrelle Patterson to emerge as Minnesota's primary "X" wideout, with Greg Jennings and Jarius Wright sharing snaps at "Z" and slot receiver.

Wed Mar 5 201417:53Vikings want to re-sign Jerome Simpson
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the Vikings would like to re-sign free agent Jerome Simpson.
It likely wouldn't be more than a one-year deal. The draft and free-agent market are loaded with receivers, so it'd be wise for Simpson to sign quickly. Simpson wouldn't be anything more than the No. 3 receiver in Minnesota, behind Cordarrelle Patterson and Greg Jennings. Simpson played in Cincinnati from 2008-2011 when new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was the defensive coordinator.

Thu Feb 6 201409:06Simpson could be back with MIN yet again?
ESPN Vikings blogger Ben Goessling guesses the Vikings will re-sign free agent Jerome Simpson on a one-year deal.
Before Cordarrelle Patterson Dynasty owners freak out, Simpson would be brought back as a strict third wideout, allowing Greg Jennings to move to the slot in three-wide formations. Simpson certainly won't be expensive. He has a possible suspension stemming from a DUI looming over his head and has produced just one touchdown over the last two seasons.

Fri Jan 3 201414:18Jerome Simpson pleads guilty to 2 charges
Impending free agent Jerome Simpson pleaded guilty Thursday to careless driving and third-degree DUI stemming from his November 9 arrest.
He was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and must attend alcohol seminars. Since Simpson has a history of violating NFL policy -- he was suspended three games to open the 2012 season -- the Minneapolis Star-Tribune considers him "likely" to face additional discipline from commissioner Roger Goodell. Simpson will not be an attractive signing in 2014 free agency.

Sun Dec 22 201317:09Jerome Simpson held to 1 catch, 8 yards
Jerome Simpson caught one ball for eight yards in the Vikings' Week 16 loss to the Bengals.
Simpson has been losing playing time to Cordarrelle Patterson of late, hitting rock bottom in the box score. Unsigned for 2014, Simpson will likely play his last down as a Viking in Week 17 against the Lions.

Sun Dec 15 201317:08Jerome Simpson catches just one pass in win
Jerome Simpson caught one pass for 19 yards in Sunday's Week 15 win over the Eagles.
Simpson's three targets were fewer than Greg Jennings (13), Cordarrelle Patterson (6), Jarius Wright (5) and Matt Asiata (5). He's well off the fantasy radar heading into a tough Week 16 matchup at Cincy.

Sun Dec 8 201317:59Jerome Simpson goes 4/48/1 versus Ravens
Jerome Simpson caught four passes for 48 yards and a touchdown in Minnesota's Week 14 loss to the Ravens.
Simpson's eight-yard score was an excellent, toe-tapping grab at the back of the end zone. Amazingly, it was his first touchdown in 25 games as a Viking. Simpson will have vanishingly-little upside as a WR4 for the final two weeks of the fantasy playoffs.

Sun Dec 1 201317:11Jerome Simpson goes for 76 yards in Week 13
Jerome Simpson caught three balls for 76 yards in the Vikings' Week 13 win over the Bears.
He also dropped a would-be touchdown on the left side of the end zone late in the contest. Simpson is a maddeningly inconsistent real-life player, and in fantasy his upside isn't enough to make Simpson worth starting, pretty much ever. Don't bother rostering him in 12- or 14-team leagues.
