Wed Apr 22 201517:36Garcia released by Dodgers on Wednesday
Garcia was released by the Dodgers on Wednesday, Bill Shaikin of the LA Times reports.
Garcia struggled mightily in four appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, posting a 7.36 ERA while surrendering eight hits and four walks in 7.1 innings. The 37-year-old will have to look elsewhere for a minor league contract, likely serving simply as organizational depth wherever he lands.
Tue Mar 31 201510:58Garcia has signed minor league contract with Dodgers
Garcia has signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers, MLB.com's Ken Gurnick reports.
After spending 2014 in the Chinese Professional Baseball League, Garcia will look to continue his career in the United States. He'll provide pitching depth in the Los Angeles organization but doesn't seem like a good bet to reach the majors again.
Fri Apr 18 201412:59Freddy Garcia set to sign with Asian club
Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com reports that Freddy Garcia is close to signing with an undisclosed team in Asia.
Garcia opted out of his minor league deal with the Braves after finding out he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster. He was hoping to find a major league deal somewhere but had only been offered minor league deals to this point. Obviously he's apparently found a better opportunity overseas.

Thu Apr 3 201417:02Freddy Garcia looking for major league deal
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia is hoping to land a major league contract.
Garcia was surprisingly cut loose by the Braves toward the end of spring training and has received some minor league offers since, including from the Rangers, but he's holding out for something better. The 37-year-old right-hander had a 4.37 ERA and 46/17 K/BB ratio in 80 1/3 innings over 13 starts and four relief appearances in the majors last year.

Mon Mar 24 201413:36Braves release veteran righty Freddy Garcia
Braves released RHP Freddy Garcia.
Garcia was informed Monday that he would not be on Atlanta's Opening Day roster, so the veteran right-hander packed his things and exercised his opt-out clause. He posted a 4.76 ERA and 14/6 K/BB ratio in 17 innings this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 37-year-old is now back on the open market.

Sun Mar 23 201416:40Freddy Garcia defeats Mets
Freddy Garcia allowed just an unearned run over 5 2/3 innings in beating a Mets split-squad on Sunday.
Garcia allowed two hits, walked one and struck out four in his first strong showing since the early portion of the spring. He'll be a part of the Braves' April rotation, but his status could be revisited once Mike Minor returns.

Thu Mar 13 201416:39Freddy Garcia gives up four runs in loss
Freddy Garcia surrendered four runs -- three earned -- in four innings Thursday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Garcia still seems like a lock for Atlanta's rotation with Mike Minor, Brandon Beachy and Ervin Santana all iffy for the first week or two of the season. However, he might not last much longer than that if Minor and Beachy prove healthy. He has a 6.94 ERA this spring.

Sat Mar 8 201416:11Garcia leaves Braves to be with pregnant wife
Freddy Garcia flew to Miami on Saturday to be with his wife, who is in labor.
Garcia was perhaps distracted during that day's game, allowing six runs on six hits and four walks over 2 2/3 innings against the Marlins. Once he received the hook, Garcia left the ballpark and began his journey to Miami. He'll be back soon.

Mon Mar 3 201416:40Freddy Garcia perfect against Mets
Freddy Garcia was perfect again Monday, setting down all nine Mets he faced in three innings.
Garcia struck out three. He's 15-for-15 retiring batters this spring as he attempts to overtake Alex Wood for a spot in Atlanta's rotation.

Wed Feb 26 201416:57Freddy Garcia perfect for two innings
Freddy Garcia retired all six Tigers he faced in his start Wednesday.
Garcia, who was re-signed to a non-guaranteed contract last month, has said he won't accept a minor league assignment from the Braves. He looks like the team's sixth starter right now, but it's possible Alex Wood will be shifted to the pen to open up a spot for him. An injury could factor in, too.

Thu Feb 13 201418:57Freddy Garcia won't go to Triple-A
In Braves camp on a minor league deal, Freddy Garcia said he will not go to Triple-A if he fails to make the Opening Day roster.
"I told my agent, 'If I don't make the team, I'm going home,'" Garcia said. "I'm not going back to the minor leagues, like last year. I did it last year. But if I don't make the team, I'll go home and spend time with the family." With the out clause in Garcia's contract, MLB.com's Mark Bowman says the righty "seems destined to gain a spot on Atlanta's Opening Day roster." He could possibly be the No. 5 starter until Gavin Floyd (elbow) is ready, but more likely he'll be used in long relief.

Fri Jan 24 201411:53Braves re-sign Freddy Garcia to minors deal
Braves re-signed RHP Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Garcia pitched well down the stretch for the Braves last season, even earning a start in their NLDS elimination game loss to the Dodgers. Overall, the right-hander posted a 4.37 ERA over 80 1/3 frames for the Braves and Orioles in 2014. It's possible he could compete for the final spot in the rotation if the Braves wind up keeping Alex Wood in the bullpen. More likely, though, is that he'll represent depth at Triple-A or be used as a long man in the bullpen.

Sat Jan 11 201415:04Mets have had dialouge with Freddy Garcia
Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets have had dialogue with free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia.
The Mets are in the market for a veteran starter that can be had on a minor league deal to compete with Jenrry Meija and Raphael Montero for the team's fifth starter's job, and Garcia fits the bill. The 37-year-old hurler has also proven his ability to pitch out of the bullpen in the past, which makes him an attractive option as a swingman.

Wed Dec 11 201316:38Yanks not interested in Garcia
According to Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York, the Yankees are not interested in free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia.
Garcia pitched with the Yankees in 2011 and 2012, but the club ruled out a reunion when asked by his agent. The 37-year-old posted a 4.37 ERA and 46/17 K/BB ratio over 80 1/3 innings this past season at the major league level. The Braves haven't ruled out bringing him back while the Mets are reportedly considering him as rotation insurance.

Tue Dec 10 201314:21Mets to meet with agent for Garcia
David Lennon of New York Newsday reports that the Mets will meet with the representatives for pitchers Freddy Garcia, Johan Santana and infielder Cesar Izturis on Tuesday.
Garcia and Santana are viewed stopgap options for the rotation while Izturis could potentially fill the utility infielder role vacated by the recently non-tendered Justin Turner. All three players should come at a reasonable price.

Mon Dec 9 201317:32Mets expected to look into RHP Garcia
Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that the Mets are expected to look into free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia.
Like with Daisuke Matsuzaka, the Mets would consider him as a stopgap option while they wait for some of their young starters to come up from the minors. Now 37 years old, Garcia posted a 4.37 ERA and 46/17 K/BB ratio over 80 1/3 innings at the major league level this year, but finished strong with the Braves and even made a start in the playoffs.

Mon Dec 9 201300:17Braves interested in bringing back Garcia
Jon Heyman of CBS Sports notes that the Braves are interested in bringing back free agent right-hander Freddy Garcia.
Nothing is imminent at the moment. The 37-year-old hurler pitched surprisingly well down the stretch last season, posting a 1.65 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 20/5 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings with the Braves. He'd presumably provide additional rotation depth while serving as a long relief option out of the bullpen.

Tue Oct 8 201301:24Freddy Garcia pitches well in no-decision
Freddy Garcia held the Dodgers to two runs over six innings in Monday's loss.
Garcia gave up eight hits -- including a pair of homers -- and walked two. He was running on fumes in the sixth and should have been removed, but he managed to get through the inning and ultimately gave the Braves all they could have hoped for. Atlanta took a 3-2 lead into the eighth inning, but David Carpenter coughed it up while Craig Kimbrel stood on the bullpen mound, looking helpless.

Wed Oct 2 201314:43Braves tab Freddy Garcia as Game 4 starter
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Wednesday that Freddy Garcia will start Game 4 of the NLDS against the Dodgers, if necessary.
Garcia will get the nod after he posted a 1.65 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 20/5 K/BB ratio over 27 1/3 innings in September. However, the veteran right-hander struggled in his stop with Baltimore earlier this year and had a 5.20 ERA in 107 1/3 innings with the Yankees last year. It's not an ideal situation.

Wed Oct 2 201313:39Freddy Garcia on Braves' roster for NLDS
Freddy Garcia is on the Braves' roster for the NLDS against the Dodgers.
In turn, the Braves didn't include Paul Maholm on the roster. Garcia, who posted a 1.65 ERA over 27 1/3 innings down the stretch, appears on track to start Game 4 of the NLDS.
